    In this instructional video we’ll show you how to install our BMS on a Tesla battery module.
    A Battery Management System (BMS) is the device that protects a lithium battery from damage, allowing you to use a Salvaged/Used/Recycled Tesla electric car battery module in your off-grid power system.
    This video covers both revision B and revision C Tesla modules.
    Buy a BMS kit from Overkill Solar: overkillsolar.com/product/tes...
    We also sell just the interface board with universal terminals: overkillsolar.com/product/tes...
    Chapters:
    00:00 - Prep & Warnings
    01:25 - Remove old board (Revision B)
    02:36 - Install new board (Revision B)
    03:14 - Remove old board (Revision C)
    04:15 - Install new board (Revision C)
    05:21 - Another Warning
    05:59 - Health Check
    07:44 - Install BMS
    10:08 - Load Test
    Overkill Solar also offers highly rated LiFePO4 BMSs and industrial LiFePO4 cells.

    Possible applications for a used Tesla battery include:
    • DIY Powerwall
    • Mobile Power Pack
    • Solar power storage
    • Golf Cart Battery
    • Off Grid Power Systems

    Nice, looks like building those would be a good side business for anyone who comes across used Tesla batteries often.

      They’re not cheap as the people doing ev conversions want them

    Nice work. Understand instructional. Consider amping up the safe practices… pun intended. Simple plywood covers to drop over the battery modules would go a long way towards keeping accidental electrical shorts at bay. Also consider having your tools plastic taped. Love this re-use approach.

    Dont bother with the model S modules for offgrid storage, theyre good and small but have become very pricey per kwh due to popularity.
    The real cheat code is the model 3 battery packs, almost no model 3 needs battery replacements and people are sleeping on them for battery storage so you can get a huge 75kwh pack from the original long range models for like 5 grand from a junkyard, $66 a kilowatt hour is absolutely insane

    You can bypass BMS just for power output and use the bms only for charging that way you are not limited by the bms amperage limit

    Hello, I just bought the Tesla BMS Kit and am wondering if the app and BMS can reliably prevent charging if the battery temp is too low and prevent over discharging and/or overcharging?

    delighted to see you've made using Tesla batteries practical. About what is the capacity of a 6s module?

    • @OverkillSolarLLC
      @OverkillSolarLLC  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The ones we have in the shop were 5 kWh when new in 2014, now they are testing at 3.6 kWh, 77% of original capacity.
      A video about the capacity testing will come out in the near future

    Can it be set up with 8 modules and a 48v SMA sunny island inverter, can the bms communicate with the inverter?

    What brand inverter? Curious how 6s is working for LVC. 7s seems more inline with most low voltage cutoff for cells to cut off at ~3v per cell.

    I have a DC mobile solar trailer and the flooded classic lead batteries are going bad, I wonder if I could use used Tesla car battery modules as a suitable and longer lasting replacement? Please let me know if this would be suitable, thanks!

    How many 6s tesla modules can be wired in series (with a BMS per module)?

    • @OverkillSolarLLC
      @OverkillSolarLLC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We suggest only 2 in series for safety reasons but if you must have more voltage there is no technical limitations due to the BMS. The Tesla pack puts all 16 modules in series for 400 volts.

      do you offer a 12s bms to run 2 batteries with only one 48v bms? @@OverkillSolarLLC

    • @kjtwist
      @kjtwist 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I really want to buy these but don't understand how I could put them together in a series and then parallel multiple 48 Volt packs. One battery does not really make for an off-grid solar home. It would be awesome if you made a video show this, a rel world application using your system. @@OverkillSolarLLC
