im in my first year of a higher school for programming and marketing in Austria, so i never used math in any job before, but i can imagine using it in my future job
Chances are if you are a software developer, you won't use math a lot (unless you have to deal with business logic that requires it) ... I remember this frustrating a lot of my friends back when I was at university, because they already worked in the field, and felt like math classes were a waste of their time.
So true! Sometimes I think universities use it as some kind of competency test but seems fraught to me since they could just test the cs part better haha
But math is all about analysing and solving problems, which is what software developers do: we are problem solvers! Plus, someone who knows math can work in any area of software development, more specifically companies and teams that develop their own advanced, in-house software, as opposed to using external tools that come ready-made.
honestly the one place that math is constantly in your face is definitely computer graphics. everything you write in a shader to make things look pretty is maths, transforms, rotations and scaling for your models, all matrix maths, but you dont need to know how to calculate any of this yourself, just understanding the concepts is more than enough.
What is 12*13 on the fly is the bane of my existence hahaha it's actually the being put on the spot that results in me freezing, when I don't have any external pressure, I'm pretty good at "math" (arithmetic)-AKA, when it doesn't matter perception-wise.
Math was one of my weakness and I'm still not good at math, but I did get a job, I had same expectations for being SWE, it's just everyone has different learning style and different learning curve, now I enjoy software development, sure one day will enjoy math too, just gotta find applicable projects for math
I want to stay here and continue getting such good vibes 🤧 someone emphasised i watch this and this was different from the usual "u can do anything if u believe in it" kind of Talk i got tired listening to 😔 am definitely not bad at math 😭💛
I used to say I was just not "built" for math, I still think math sucks ass. But I have had to admit that I dont suck at math, I just dont spend enough time to get good at it. I will clearly never be brilliant and I think the way math is written is still super frustrating, but I can actually do it when I understand the overall logic and dont get stuck on "why" some things just are the way the are.
Here I'm watching this as a masters CS student with a BS with a math degree and several years teaching math and CS. All I got to say is you need 'x' math to be succesful. Great vid, you got my sub
What is the best approach for newbies (like me) who want to get into the world of programming? If you could make a video about this topic, that would be great.
@@luiytheninja3655 yeah lol. i do that a lot too. But one of my friends suggested me to open a single tab while reading documentation and skim through basics of whatever topic pops up in the one you're going through. That way, according to him, you don't lose focus.
Great video! Just curious what math books you picked up and what subjects you were looking through on the weekends. I think most CS people enjoy a lot of discrete mathematics but I think it can be pretty cool to look into other math subjects too which aren't used as much in CS but are still interesting like analysis or complex variables.
The only math i like are quantum mechanics/quantum physics here the possibilities are literally endless and is the closest thing to actual magic this world will ever see. After all magic is just science that people don't understand yet
Annoying know-it-all kid here: The majority of what you do as a software developer is not writing code on a screen. It's figuring out what underlying problem to solve. After that you need some Boolean algebra, the rest you find some library for. If I was to point to one common skill in the best developers out there, it's conflict de-escalation. Trying to make everyone in the company accept your functionality is a lot harder than writing it.

So many people needed to hear this. You can do anything when you believe in yourself and know that imposter syndrome doesn't mean it's impossible.

Your videos are great compared to other youtubers. Explanation is awesome.

@@JasonGoodison Partly it was your help, you don't know how motivation you gave me, have been following for a year ))
high school guy here basicly im horrible at math and i don’t know what to do exactly try my best and go in comp sci or not
Bro you are awesome
Yeah math when taking off the pressure and expectations it's just pattern finding and doing puzzles. We do puzzles for fun for goodness sake!

aww glad to hear that
@@JasonGoodison I'll try 😭 but school not doing me good so i might not be here all the time 😂 a warning in advance b4 u think we have abandoned you 😋✨
@@nennabanda2097Definitely you're trying to shift the blame b4 you finally abandon him. Wise play

3:06 bro put the fries in the bag and just tell if math is needed or not

Thats great to hear! Yeah it can be frustrating, but its just a skill like any other!
You need math to be happy.
Actually the Polar Express Nerd was wrong: the loconotive wasnt the 4-8-2 Baldwin S3 but the #1225 Perre Marquette Steam Engine 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃❄️❄️

Haha well said. But thanks for the comment and sub :)
What is “x”? 🤯🤯🤯
What is x in the math

opening a lot of Chrome tabs is a problem with me too. U can group tabs in Chrome btw.
I need to start doing that tbh.

can you make videos about your startup. really excited about startups
Yeah will do!

Fun Fact: Chrome has also tab tabs
Which free website do you recommend to learn coding?

According to my university, 1 year worth.
Yes, discrete math is killing me right now.
Tutors can be lifesavers, honestly, and are worth the money
