    Apologies? The one that leaps to mind is Jeff Morrow for The Giant Claw, where he slunk out of the theatre once the creature was revealed. He later said, "The director - Fred F. Sears - just told us, "All right, now you see the bird up there, and you're scared to death! Use your imagination." But the first time we actually got to see it was the night of the premiere. The audience couldn't stop laughing. We were up there on screen looking like idiots, treating this silly buzzard like it was the scariest thing in the world. We felt cheated, that's for sure, but they told us afterward that they just ran out of money. They couldn't afford anything but this stupid puppet. But it was just terrible. I was never so embarrassed in my whole life."

      One of the things I love most about those old sci-fi/horror movies is the disparity between how seriously it's taken, and how silly looking the monsters are. It's like passing out Halloween candy, while feigning fright over the children's costumes, and never once breaking character. Enjoying those movies is like being a kid, and an adult, at the same time. 🎃

    I'm pretty sure the original script had nothing to do with werewolves and was changed from vampires at the last minute. This would explain Transylvania, the garlic gloves, and Christopher Lee.

      And why the movie sucked.

    • @MAMoreno
      @MAMoreno 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Oh, the truth is far more depressing. This film was initially written by Gary Brandner, the author of the Howling books, and his first draft was faithful to his sequel novel (which means that we might have seen Dee Wallace, Dennis Dugan, and Elisabeth Brooks return as the leads). Then the producers pressured him to shoehorn in a role for a distinguished older actor, which eventually became Christopher Lee's part. And then the producers insisted that Brandner change the setting from Mexico (where the climax of the second book takes place) to Spain (and even that setting was eventually changed to Transylvania). The constant demands led the novelist to abandon the project and focus on his third Howling novel instead. A new writer came in, and it suddenly became a vampire movie masquerading as a werewolf movie, and the only resemblance it bears to the source material is the presence of a male and female lead in a romantic relationship.

It's been generally said that professional actors aren't exactly known for their intellectual acuity. Malcolm McDowell and Helen Mirren were both performers willing to take a chance with risque material - they just did not know how risque it was going to be. And it's not really a porno either, if we are being objective, it is just more extreme in it's nudity and material than most UK/US films. In the 1970s there was quite a lot of that going on because "women's liberation" was used as a way to convince actresses to get their clothes off.

      This film came at the lowest point in Lee's long career, when he was mostly typecast as a sinister/horror dude. Obviously it didn't help him either. Really, despite being in several projects each year, Lee was mostly forgotten in the 80s and 90s. It was the Johnny Depp movie Sleepy Horror that brought him back into the limelight and Lord of the Rings that completely resurrected his career.

    This movie is not awful as it is done cheaply. I love the “Transylvanian ” vibe and the werid punk rock song at the end. As a teen I was in love with Sybil Danning. Actually think I still am even though she is 30 years older than me lol this movie did not help with my infatuation lol
    Christopher Lee what can I say other than everything he is in he classes up.
    The Howling 2, Gremlins 2 and a bunch of other stuff all made watchable because he was in it. I wish I got to met him. RIP sir

    Bad as the movie was... I still couldn't resist a film with Christopher Lee and Sybil Danning.
    If you're reading this, Ms. Danning:
    I love you Sybil!
    I wish I could convey my accolades for Mr. Lee, but the only way some of us can think of, Christopher Lee warned us against.
    Rest in peace, Christopher.

    The anchor being shot while on camera reminds me of a story about an anchor who shot herself while on camera, claiming she was keeping up with the station's policy in broadcasting the latest in blood and gore. I wonder if that incident inspired that scene.

    I've never had a sister, certainly not one who was a werewolf or a vampiress or even your common everyday sinister hunchback. But I do have a twin brother who happens to be a meerkat. As you might well guess we're the type of fraternal twins who have little in common. Back when we were kids in the suburbs I tried digging complex tunnels beneath our house and then popping out near the street and resting my cute little hands on my belly while swiveling my head around on the alert for possible danger. I did this to make Reginald---oh, Reginald is my twin meerkat sibling; but we usually called him "Reg" or "Reggie". As I was saying, I did this to try and make Reginald happy. But it was never really my thing. So...oh well.

    So the heroes visit the renaissance fair, while the villains have an orgy. One thing about the forces of darkness, they know how to keep their employees happy.
    If there is one actor that I think does owe us an apology, it is Donald Sutherland for the film Fallen (1998). The film itself is passable, but I have never seen an award winning actor show no interest in his role and just phoning in his performance. Such a shame, since lead actor Denzel Washington was trying his best as always.

    • @ashleys9397
      @ashleys9397 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's that you're saying?! What do you mean it's merely "passable" as a film? I happen to consider FALLEN quite an excellent movie and I ought to know that because any movie I've eyeballed, like, seven or eight times is more than likely to be an excellent movie because I happen to like it and I have impeccable taste when it comes to horror films. SO THERE! On the other hand I have to concede that you're probably right about Sutherland's less-than-memorable showing. So...yeah, you've got me there.

    3:05 To be fair to Howling 2 (I never thought I'd type those lines), the original Dante film did have a scene where Karen's friend does take a gun into the news studio and does kill her live on-air. It's one of the few bits that the sequel tries to remain faithful too.

    Who owes us an apology? Rob Lowe for "Stir of Echos: The Homecoming." Thankfully this abomination of a sequel (which absolutely killed the franchise) has nothing at all to do with the incredibly excellent original starring Kevin Bacon. Well, except for one thing. The concept upon which the Original is based on. Here's the thing, you can't make a propaganda film that is blatant, over the top, and hits audiences over the head to the point that everyone seeing your film gets angry at the fact you're obviously trying to re-educate them. Audiences don't like that. That's what Homecoming did.

    You didn't mention that in addition to all the other stuff about the videotape scene, apparently just reusing the scene from the first movie was too expensive for the filmmakers' tastes, so they made this rubbish reproduction.
    Unless they thought that that scene being made by a GOOD director would ruin continuity. Which would just be sad on so many levels.
