Amazing cover as always! Nothing wrong with biasing towards IX, it really is top notch. Something about the soundfonts used for VII-IX just really let the incredible compositions shine through.
Thank you! I definitely feel there was a huge sound quality jump between VII and VIII. VIII had these really crazy orchestral pieces that were just so top notch, and IX continued to emulate that.
I never really could figure out how they made this melody. It never crossed my mind that they probably used a harp. This is amazing. You're very good. =) thank you for sharing this. You're incredible!

I thought this cover from my favourite game was beautiful when I first stumbled across it back then, and I'm so happy I did. I appreciate this even moreso now after getting to know you and grasping a better understanding of the harp. _"You taught me that life doesn't last forever. This opened up a box of memories I didn't even know I still had. It's been well over two decades since I played IX, and it was easily my favorite FF game, surpassing even IV and VI. Those two games are legendary in their own right, but were themed after betrayal and despair respectively. IX took on a lighter side of the spectrum and was themed after beauty, and love. Your harp solo absolutely captured both of those. Thank you so much for uploading this.

I love the moment of the game when she discovers her origins in Madain Sari, and they play this song for the first time! Anyways, you did amazing!!! I want to do a cover of this song so bad.

FFIX was by far my favorite Final Fantasy game, glad to hear there's others out there like me. :) I see you're palm-muting the bottom-most strings (despite never strumming those). As an ignorant person about harps, I would like to ask what the reason is for your muting those strings? Do they resonate with the higher ones? Beautiful cover of this beautiful song!!!
Yessssss FFIX is my favorite for life. Thank you! Will definitely do more FFIX songs in the future!! So when you play any string, the entire harp actually vibrates along with it, especially in the lower part. This is why you can mute some of the resonance a bit by muting the lower strings. I did this because most of this song is played in the same area of the harp, so it can end up sounding muddy without any muting. I wanted to get a little bit of clarity, if that makes sense.

Wonderful song and performance. Brought back memories. Just curious though, at some parts you stick your hand out all the way to touch the last string, what’s that for?
I have finished memorizing this. Can play it at about 50% of your speed (for now until I get quicker) . From copying your fingers. Much more difficult that melody of lute. This piece is has alot of demand from the left hand, takes some getting used too. There's one part I need clarification. At 00:42 seconds, your left hits index finger "d" first then thumb "f" second, and your right hand hits index finger "a" third, thumb "e" fourth, then thumb "d" fifth. And right after that it's left hand does index "c" first, thumb "e" second. And right hand does index finger "g" third, thumb "d" fourth and thumb "c" fifth. Is that what your doing? Or are you hitting some strings at the same time? I can't quite make it out due to video quality .
So I instead play 3 notes on left, and the 2 on the right. That is easier for me. And that last part of the song before it loops was the hardest to learn, coordinating the left and right hand together. Took me 2 days just that part. Well now I finished learning this too and can play it at about 75-90% of your speed. Good enough (without levers or pedals) Very cool. I can play 2 ff songs now on harp, thanks to Your videos. Hmm, time to go over all your videos again and see what's next. I'll let u know
Ahh, so relaxing... Haven't played FFIX in ages. I'm planning on getting the remastered version and making a Let's Play of it, but I have no idea when I'll actually get to it =( EDIT: Yeah, Disney princesses also never address the excrement issue when it comes to singing with the birdies, do they?
I'm so happy and blown away that you took the time to listen and comment on everything here! But...STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING and go play the remastered version! 😂 Maybe that's why they have so many Disney princesses wear light colors. The bird shit stains blend in more seamlessly.

I'm looking to change that soon, however, and start posting stuff again, and FFIX is definitely on the list.
I'm surprised by how often you're muffling those lower octaves with your left hand. Is that why your notes are all so clear and you don't have any "buzzing"? I'm thinking I need to play more like you do!
Looks like you're muting the bass strings with your hand. I use a piece of cloth to mute guitar strings when playing sometimes. Maybe that could work for you?
The bottom strings also reverberate when you pluck the higher ones. So to prevent the sound from getting too muddy/crowded, you sometimes muffle the bottom part. Helps with clarity

I have finished memorizing this. Can play it at about 50% of your speed (for now until I get quicker) . From copying your fingers. Much more difficult that melody of lute. This piece is has alot of demand from the left hand, takes some getting used too.
There's one part I need clarification. At 00:42 seconds, your left hits index finger "d" first then thumb "f" second, and your right hand hits index finger "a" third, thumb "e" fourth, then thumb "d" fifth.
And right after that it's left hand does index "c" first, thumb "e" second. And right hand does index finger "g" third, thumb "d" fourth and thumb "c" fifth.
Is that what your doing? Or are you hitting some strings at the same time? I can't quite make it out due to video quality .
So I instead play 3 notes on left, and the 2 on the right. That is easier for me. And that last part of the song before it loops was the hardest to learn, coordinating the left and right hand together. Took me 2 days just that part.
Well now I finished learning this too and can play it at about 75-90% of your speed. Good enough (without levers or pedals)

I'm surprised by how often you're muffling those lower octaves with your left hand. Is that why your notes are all so clear and you don't have any "buzzing"? I'm thinking I need to play more like you do!

Looks like you're muting the bass strings with your hand. I use a piece of cloth to mute guitar strings when playing sometimes. Maybe that could work for you?

I don't know how to play harp. But i wonder, why are you "muffling" the biggest string without plucking it?
The bottom strings also reverberate when you pluck the higher ones. So to prevent the sound from getting too muddy/crowded, you sometimes muffle the bottom part. Helps with clarity
