Hopefully it has progressed in understanding of harm reduction. However he was right about how the drugs poured into the communities and reaped havoc on them. It wasn’t an accident our government knew and facilitated drug trafficking. Every one else got stuck holding the bag. He had part of the puzzle that it was used as a tool disproportionately against poor minority communities. Drugs and poverty were a horrible combination. I would think now Parenti would have an evolved view on this matter now. This lecture was from 88 the crack epidemic was in full swing.

The woman asked a question about how “super patriotism” benefits men more than women. After a riveting discussion about class and social structures, the lady has to ask about gender. Whether it’s racism, feminism, or anything else, pay attention to how easily it get inserted into conversations about class when class has nothing to do with those things.
