Yeah but sometimes games tell you the same thing like "You are going to die" or similars such as sacrifice and some magic happens at the end and you somehow survive. This wasn't the case.
My most haunting experience of Final Fantasy 15 was because of this song. We arrived at Insomnia, as I tried to imagine how the city looked like, back when it was alive and thriving. It took me a while to remember that the city actually got destroyed 10 years ago. Even so, I was under the impression I was visiting the aftermath of a hurricane or a post apocalyptic future. And then I walked down the stairs to the underground tunnels. Some corridors were flooded, and some stores closed their gates, never to be opened ever again. As I slowly ventured further, I kept telling myself: there used to be people there. Commuting to work. Going to shop. It used to be packed, crowded. They would pass there daily. But now, it's just empty corridors. All the while, the lyrics carried on. A distant memory of a past long gone.

@@yeflynne Spoilers for those who haven't played the game: He's dead. Noctis and his friends met their end at Insomnia. His friends giving their lives to buy him time and Noctis sacrificing his own life to destroy Ardyn. It's a sad ending that's very fitting for the game, although I personally wished he could have had a good ending. If I remember correctly, there's this book that's a what-if where Ardyn and Noct take on Bahamut and win. Where there's actually a good, happy ending. But I dunno, haven't looked into it yet
@lenoviburnum4823 the friends survived, it's Noct who didn't. They held their own all the way until Noct killed Ardyn and brought day back to the world. It's gotta be a bittersweet moment, to have seen the mornung for the first time in 10 long years, but knowing that the sacrifice that had to have been paid was your best friend's life and entire lineage.
There's only one phrase to describe both this song and the scenery, hauntingly beautiful. The song is so beautiful yet reflects the darkness and sad hope that is to come; the scene is beautiful in that it showcases the world's most advanced city frozen in time and now in ruins. I'm glad they put Yoko Shimomura as the head composer; her style definitely fits Final Fantasy and is a good stand-in for Nobuo Uematsu's style. His style can never be replicated or fully replaced in the music of Final Fantasy, but she definitely has earned the right to stand in the same spot.
The trials and tribulations you face throughout the game all culminating in this one walk to the citadel, coupled with the emotional roller coaster that is somnus, take a bow square enix, the journey, although a bit rushed in some chapters, was absolutely breathtaking.
Glad they brought the original vocal version back. Although the instrumental was great, I always loved this over it. :) Kinda feels like a reunion now with what the game was like when it was first announced, lol.
+Nekko Blue: I just wish it had a better time to shine. The background music is kind of lost amidst the chaos and when you fight enemies, it gets replaced with the fighting song. It just didn't feel as powerful as when the song was used in the Verses XIII trailers.
C4DNerd Yeah true, sorta wish they just had it as both the battle theme AND the field theme, just to drive that whole "reunion" point home. But hey, at the end of the day, at least they acknowledged this version's existence. I almost thought they forgot about this version of the song entirely, lol.
Back again in 2022 to listen to this masterpiece. It never fails to remind me that the characters in FFXV didn't get a true happy ending. They stood no chance against the will of the gods and it ended just as Bahamut foretold. 😔
> Insomnia >Meaning habitual sleeplessness; the inability to rest >Somnus >Meaning in Latin is Sleep Is there some sort of symbolism or theme here? A great motif of the game appears to be sleep, something that heals the body and mind but I'm not exactly sure how the theme of sleep fits into XV's story.
Chloe Shand I didn't play the game, so I don't know much of the story. But we can see a woman sleeping in the title, so, certainly, "sleep" must play a big symbolic part in the game's theme. Also, if I'm not mistaken, we see Noctis sitting in the throne and closing his eyes (which plays a big part for his powers, too) on the versus XIII trailer. Without forgetting the meaning of his name in Latin.
There is a TON of night/sleep imagery in FF15. Noctis - Noct meaning night Umbra the dog - Umbra which means the inner area of a shadow casted by a round object Insomnia like you said. Tenebrae - Tenebrae being Latin for darkness They were clearly going for a theme here.
This is just my point of view but the so called ''power of light'' here was indeed dark as heck if you ask me, granting power at the cost of one's life. Insomnia alway's draining the life of its king with the shield, tenebrae with the oracle with a similar fate as a king of lucis, I think Noctis finally brought rest to all the souls of the kings that were sealed on the ring and those who were not like in poor Ardyn's case. so yeah I think the theme was perfect because it was time to rest in peace for all those that suffered the fate of the lucis and oracles. :) just my point of view though
When I first entered the last area. It makes you realize that if you genuine followed the directors idea of a bond between friends.. it'll hit ya right in the feels. Man my favorite final fantasy next to 9.. I legit cared about the squad. Great game and epic final area song :)..
Many people got against this game, it's not what i should have been but i loved the ending. I was unable to hold tears while going through the photos for just choosing one of them. Too. Many. Fucking. Feels.
Imagine the forte part comes right before the end as your fighting and everything gets really chaotic as her voice fights to climb over the hectic clangs and battle noises. Wouldve been chilling lol
my favorite trope of all time. "last episode theme reprise". its the final battle/mission and you hear the theme song playing in the background. let it be the original, instrumental / vice versa, or even a remix version to fit with the situation. youve heard the leitmotifs playing in the various soundtracks throughout gameplay / show, but when they starts to plays the "REAL" theme, then its ON! i really wish more vg/animes uses this trope more
For someone that didn’t really play final fantasy that much as a kid this easily became my favorite game due to how much i felt for the characters in the story.
My first final fantasy and perhaps it will be my final, not because I hate it But because I may not find something similar to this masterpiece I just felt empty after I finished the game The perfect sound for the perfect timing
I lost my very first roommate due to suicide, my dad a month later, this game was all I had and owned other than a ps4, a room to rent and a bottle every other day. This game and song is very close to my heart and I will forever miss them both. Perfect story about loss but damn, this song and game is sad AF for me
this ending section was fantastic but i don't feel like the pacing really worked for it like, the dark world needed to be another five or so hours of explorable terrain with foreboding creatures and very hard fights, like they need to find some macguffin to enter the city. THAT would pace the lead-up much better
100% the World of Ruin needed more. I was expecting more and then it dawned on me when they're in Hammerhead and you can't leave without accepting "The Final Battle." Guaranteed they'll expand on it later though.
Agreed! I think just about every single old school Final Fantasy fan that has played FF6 got extremely excited when they saw the name of the quest upon their return was World of Ruin. Reforming the party was a big part of the second half of the game. Not doing something similar was perhaps the biggest missed opportunity of FF15. They could have easily started this off with meeting Prompto at Hammerhead. Ignis and Gladio could have been elsewhere in the world. During the search for them they could have also had Cor and Iris rejoin the party for a short time. As much as folks wouldn't want to see another delay, what would two months or so have been after TEN YEARS? After all, there's no world to create. I do understand that the map alterations themselves would have taken time, but it's not like every last inch of the map had to be used. Collapse a tunnel, take out a bridge here and there. Overall, just use enough of the map with alterations and changes for a satisfying reunion quest.
Enigma1788 I read that it was because nomura had a 10 year contract on the game so tabata was forced to release the game we got. And to me it makes perfect sense, tabata is an amazing developer and his games are always emotional investing and paced great. Yet this game feels off and has tons of repeating dialogue as if they didn't have time to add in more stuff. So hopefully tabata adds everything he wanted to within a year or so.
Enigma1788 That would have been fantastic. I'm still a new fan to the game, I started with 13 then I moved on to Type 0 because I couldn't play 13 due to it feeling pretty empty to me. But dude! FFXV was a very good touch, there could have been amazing improvements but this wasn't bad either.
Ryukachoo Yeah, I sort of expected to do some quests in the dark world, and also, I REALLY wanted to see people like Iris, Aranea, and Cindy in the 10 year time skip. I believe they even mentioned that Iris is actually helping the fight against the daemons?
Imagine if we have 3 series of FFxv. The first episode is about growth to become a king and rebellion to the Empire Second episode: His journey of obtaining gods powers and being absorbed by the crystal Third and last episode would be about Noctis awakening to the future. We get to explore the area we got soo used to in episode one changed...
Playing all over for 5 times its just so good i just missed where i have to find the royale weapons and i finally have them all and rarest stuff i found...AND FLYING REGALIA
Not really. His revenge on his family and the gods who betrayed him would have come from defeating Noctis and preventing the prophesy from being fulfilled at all since that's what the Lucis line and the gods have been working toward for centuries. He never managed to stop them from accomplishing their goal. He came close, but never succeeded. Noctis and the Kings before him got the better of Ardyn in the end, so no matter how you slice it I'd still say Ardyn lost. The Kings got everything they wanted. After all they knew their line would end when the Chosen sacrificed himself. Continuing their line was never the end goal, saving the world was.

There's a rather nice touch in Insomnia while this plays. If you go into the subway and fight the Imperial soldiers, the theme remains as Somnus, a rather nice reference to the first ever trailer of XV.
I will never forget this game such a masterpiece the soundtrack the story everything I know there where things like Ardyn's in depth story how and why the order fell the emperor's death and my personal favorite character Ravus Nox Fleuret, man... he need to have his part on this game I hope on the upcoming dlc's they explain more about everything
When i got to this point i literally thought "im back home, back in the beginning". I mean that i was for a moment, in versus 13. All the lost memories, the lost story we would never see, the hopes and dreams of a once magnificent vision all in this one location, this one place. I dont like to be that guy, and this game may have been a treat, but it missed my heart by a football field. 15 is a good open world game. However its story is so minimalistic and slapped together, broken, fractured, compromised, i just couldnt get into it. I also feel bad for Nomura, because his dream project will never be released. Its just a damn shame
Joseph Franc I don't know man Im glad with what we got, and I am actually glad they took this apart from ffxiii its just not the best final fantasy out there... neither are its sequels. I think its safe to say they saved this game by separating it and the concept Nomura created remained :)
Joseph Franc I actually got really into the story but at the same time it wasn't well explained. The time skip felt really rushed and specific things like how Ignis, Prompto and Gladious knew he was going to disappear and were reunited like nothing happened. There were many things that simply didn't make sense.
I broke down at this point, knowing the versus 15 trailer and the utter darkness of a king fighting alone for his kingdom. EDIT: Almost like they knew they were telling you this was the end.
This part is extended on the Royal Edition, i was impressed to see that the part is more shorter on the vanilla version, due that i played only the Royal Edition
Final Fantasy XV has been in make for 10 years (not exactly for the development time, but you know what I mean) Noctis wakes after 10 years to return to his throne Coincidence?

That last Fire camp moment really burst my tears like waterfall, they've been through so much,I don't want them to die, it should be a better ending than this
Noctis lives nobody dies becuz he talks at the end
@@yeflynne
Spoilers for those who haven't played the game:
He's dead.
@@LenoViburnum Noctis died. His friends survived.
@@LenoViburnum Ardyn just knocked them out, he didn’t kill them
@lenoviburnum4823 the friends survived, it's Noct who didn't. They held their own all the way until Noct killed Ardyn and brought day back to the world. It's gotta be a bittersweet moment, to have seen the mornung for the first time in 10 long years, but knowing that the sacrifice that had to have been paid was your best friend's life and entire lineage.
I love how they walk by Noctis now instead of following him 10 years prior
RetroCube Gameroom Fuck...i just noticed that
they still walk behind you
they began their journey as a japanese emo boys band and they finished their journey as warriors
My sister always told me they were My Chemical Romance
This is just a sublimely perfect song in every sense of those words. Probably one of my favorite songs in video games to date, let alone the series.
His style can never be replicated or fully replaced in the music of Final Fantasy, but she definitely has earned the right to stand in the same spot.
man this theme made the chapter so soooooo much better, I fell in love with the music! Absolutely phenomenal!
“Many sacrificed all for the king so must the king must sacrifice himself for all.”
You can say what you want about this game, but I think it's one of the best games ever
This song is amazing. I love the Final Fantasy XV OST.
The trials and tribulations you face throughout the game all culminating in this one walk to the citadel, coupled with the emotional roller coaster that is somnus, take a bow square enix, the journey, although a bit rushed in some chapters, was absolutely breathtaking.
Omfg! Thank you so much. I couldn't find this version till now!!! One of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life.
I know. I got chills when I got to this part in the game and this started playing with vocals.
Glad they brought the original vocal version back. Although the instrumental was great, I always loved this over it. :)
Kinda feels like a reunion now with what the game was like when it was first announced, lol.
C4DNerd I agree it should played through the fights, probably would of had more of an impact..
The final stroll through the city with the boiis😭
Back again in 2022 to listen to this masterpiece.
It never fails to remind me that the characters in FFXV didn't get a true happy ending. They stood no chance against the will of the gods and it ended just as Bahamut foretold. 😔
> Insomnia
>Meaning habitual sleeplessness; the inability to rest
>Somnus
>Meaning in Latin is Sleep
Is there some sort of symbolism or theme here? A great motif of the game appears to be sleep, something that heals the body and mind but I'm not exactly sure how the theme of sleep fits into XV's story.
well at the end both Noctis and Luna are seen asleep?
Chloe Shand I didn't play the game, so I don't know much of the story. But we can see a woman sleeping in the title, so, certainly, "sleep" must play a big symbolic part in the game's theme. Also, if I'm not mistaken, we see Noctis sitting in the throne and closing his eyes (which plays a big part for his powers, too) on the versus XIII trailer. Without forgetting the meaning of his name in Latin.
There is a TON of night/sleep imagery in FF15.
Noctis - Noct meaning night
Umbra the dog - Umbra which means the inner area of a shadow casted by a round object
Insomnia like you said.
Tenebrae - Tenebrae being Latin for darkness
They were clearly going for a theme here.
Ardyn is sleepless, Noctis has given him sleep.
In my opinion, this is the greatest composition ever
When I first entered the last area. It makes you realize that if you genuine followed the directors idea of a bond between friends.. it'll hit ya right in the feels. Man my favorite final fantasy next to 9.. I legit cared about the squad. Great game and epic final area song :)..
I cried most of this game. Final fantasy will always have a place in my heart.
Aryan Ghomi I agree
They just have a way of touching the heart fr
Many people got against this game, it's not what i should have been but i loved the ending.
I was unable to hold tears while going through the photos for just choosing one of them.
Too. Many. Fucking. Feels.
Seeing the boys rock the glaive threads hit different on your first playthrough after all the anime and movie and dlcs
One of my fav video game soundtrack, it's so beautiful...
This should have been the battle theme for this place as well. The battle music just kind of ruined the feel of it every time it came up...
I believe they changed that in a recent patch so that it does play constantly.
I didnt loke it that much either but was cool anyways although putting this in the end would be cool
Imagine the forte part comes right before the end as your fighting and everything gets really chaotic as her voice fights to climb over the hectic clangs and battle noises. Wouldve been chilling lol
Thankfully a patch made it continue playing after fights.
my favorite trope of all time. "last episode theme reprise". its the final battle/mission and you hear the theme song playing in the background. let it be the original, instrumental / vice versa, or even a remix version to fit with the situation. youve heard the leitmotifs playing in the various soundtracks throughout gameplay / show, but when they starts to plays the "REAL" theme, then its ON!
i really wish more vg/animes uses this trope more
Would've been so much better if the song kept playing whenever you had to fight in insomnia
My game had a bug where the game would either be silent during fights, or keep playing Somnus even when I was in battle. It was epic.
SonicWinds wish I had gotten that bug lol
mine kept playing too. aha. I hope it won't be patch in the future.
I believe in a recent patch they made somnus keep playing during fights.
I'm so mad that you can't listen to this on the in game radio, it's just so good
For someone that didn’t really play final fantasy that much as a kid this easily became my favorite game due to how much i felt for the characters in the story.
My first final fantasy and perhaps it will be my final, not because I hate it
But because I may not find something similar to this masterpiece
I just felt empty after I finished the game
The perfect sound for the perfect timing
Final Fantasy VII Remake is amazing too, if not even better than XV in my opinion, I totally recommend it to you.
@@kostasspirou1010
If I have PS then yes I would play no doubt but
I don't have it
I just have pc and xbox 😢
play the old ones and you’ll see why so many consider it their favorite franchise
Beautiful game, strong story, FF15 is a masterpiece
I lost my very first roommate due to suicide, my dad a month later, this game was all I had and owned other than a ps4, a room to rent and a bottle every other day. This game and song is very close to my heart and I will forever miss them both. Perfect story about loss but damn, this song and game is sad AF for me
Keep on keeping on friend. I see you.
People hated on this game so bad. I remember it all the time. Story that really stayed with me.
Such a beautiful game
Right when i walked up to a catastrophical insomnia with the boys all i could imagine Noctis saying while this music kicks in is:
"Lets Rock, baby."
This is gonna feel so nostalgic years from now
I walked in here like this is it boys... end of the road. We're finishing this tonight.
The game was good until this point. Then it just blew my mind. Loved every minute of it. Up there with X
"Off my chair jester, the king sits there"
this ending section was fantastic but i don't feel like the pacing really worked for it
like, the dark world needed to be another five or so hours of explorable terrain with foreboding creatures and very hard fights, like they need to find some macguffin to enter the city.
This song still brings me tears, so beautiful.
Imagine if we have 3 series of FFxv.
The first episode is about growth to become a king and rebellion to the Empire
Second episode: His journey of obtaining gods powers and being absorbed by the crystal
Third and last episode would be about Noctis awakening to the future. We get to explore the area we got soo used to in episode one changed...
Playing all over for 5 times its just so good i just missed where i have to find the royale weapons and i finally have them all and rarest stuff i found...AND FLYING REGALIA
"Walk tall." Me on the floor blubbering "Yes, your Majesty."
It's quite sad at this part of the game cause you know you have to sacrifice yourself at the end and leave your friends behind...
Advanced Hybrid all of them died to defend against the horde of daemons from disturbing noct with the last trial 😂
Ashraf Rosli we don't know that for sure, in the afterlife they could of been there in "spirit". It's left open to interpretation.
Advanced Hybrid yeahh, but in the end, For me, Ardyn succeed to get his revenge to end the lucis line 😭
Not for me, since the day I heard the news that Tabata was gonna be the director I know the MC gonna die one way of another.
My favorite piece in the entire ost
This reminds me of Kingdom Hearts 2 Theme Song the Nostalgia 😭😭 I love all the Final Fantasy games SE has given us.
#IStillPlayFF7
the soundtrack is beautiful, i hope this will continue to future FF games
The King of Light finally returns home with his 3 companions to free the world by making the ultimate sacrifice.😥
It will be my everlasting favourite ost
歌曲名:「Somnus」(『FINAL FANTASY XV』) 作曲:下村阳子 专辑:「drammatica -The Very Best of Yoko Shimomura-」 tellus dormit 王国在沉眠 et liberi in diem faciunt 孩童们的呻吟不曾消逝 numquam extinguunt 不曾有过希望 ne expergisci possint 被分离的人 omnia dividit 他面临着悲剧 tragoedia coram 且已远行 amandum quae 游荡在毁灭之夜 et nocte perpetua 这是他另一份负担 ehem vel vera visione 承受着各种恐惧是对他的惩罚 par oram videbo te 忍受时光的摧残 mane tempu expergiscendi 从此登上皇位
There's a rather nice touch in Insomnia while this plays. If you go into the subway and fight the Imperial soldiers, the theme remains as Somnus, a rather nice reference to the first ever trailer of XV.
I think that's a bug, cause it didn't happen in my version of the game, I wish it did though.
this music is beautiful .. you know it's the end
One of the few momentd in my gaming history that i felt like i should go walking
EDIT: Almost like they knew they were telling you this was the end.
running through the ruins of Insomnia to this music hits especially different if youve watch how it was before in Kingsglaive
This is a beautiful sad song that reflects a beautiful city destined for tragedy
This part is extended on the Royal Edition, i was impressed to see that the part is more shorter on the vanilla version, due that i played only the Royal Edition
Here after Final Fantasy 16, and although the story was good, FFXV was just something else
Final Fantasy XV has been in make for 10 years (not exactly for the development time, but you know what I mean)
Noctis wakes after 10 years to return to his throne
Coincidence?
The game ends on the place it got announced 10 years ago damn what a journey. And seeing the characters grow is emotional to:(
Such a song can compliment a courageous sacrifice
Still remember the trailer of FF Versus XIII
Gracias final fantasy 15 por destruirme el corazon de la forma mas artistica e increible posible
"Walk tall, my son."
everytime i think about this, and when i visit this. after 30 seconds i get emotionel.
the damn ending made me cry ithe game was just to great for me not to cry.... if a game makes someone cry it's because it's damn good
This was the best soundtrack of the game
I just recently played this song on Theatrythm Final Bar Line and started to tear up, such a powerful and moving piece
When i heard the lyrics for the first time during my playthrough, I knew that this game was special
I love this game such amazing story
絶対に泣いてしまう
こんなに悲壮感漂っている主人公のテーマはないよ本当に
この後のノクティスのことを思うともう同情どころじゃない
Oh my, I love this game. But still sad, that we lost forever the first version
Ignis: "Well, Shall we, Noct?"
Noctis: "Yeah, but... Ah. Hold on a sec. Prompto. Can I see your photos?"
Prompto: "Um...Yeah!"
Noctis: "I just need one... to take with me."
Prompto: "Oh... Yeah. I get it."
Versus XIII all over... How to end this hard, long, painful, yet incredible journey...
Thanks to Hajime Tabata and his team !
Tabata does not get enough credit. He made a fantastic Final Fantasy game.
I got tears.
Oh man I remember when the first versus 13 trailer I saw when Noctis was fucking up the early design MTs and this song was playing. I get a little emotional hearing it especially when in Insomnia.
