Justin, it was great to get down to Florida and meet you and your family. I appreciate the you guys having us down and it was a blast to help you get this M3 wrapped so you can #DriveProtected cheers from 🇨🇦
Welcome to Florida, BTG. I had to laugh about the 3 T-shirt change. I went through 2 t-shirts just to install a yoke wheel. These temps have been 3-5 degrees higher this summer and brutal. Hang in there.
Phenomenal video, I applaud you for it! From what I see, that front cover install looks like it’s a MAJOR pain due to all the angles and breaks. That section alone has to be a 2 person job 😳
LOL acclimated.... I've been down here since 96' from Michigan and still not used to the heat. But I moved here for the 8 months of exceptional weather not the 3-4 months of HOT🥵 weather. You'll see after you make it thru August it gets better, way better!
I loved this and have a full wrap coming from Eric now. BTW a good cheap source of distilled water is the air condidtioner drip hose. It is condensation from the evap coils. Down here in FL it doesn't take long to fill a gallon jug.
Video is great, but really this makes it look much easier than it is. This weekend I spent 12 hours in my garage installing the front hood, 2 front fenders, A pillars, mirrors and most of the front bumper. This was by myself in my well light garage, and after wiping down the first fender, there were a lot of little bubbles. These weren't really visible on my Model Y Performance in black. Very tricky. I am getting advice from Eric at Driveprotected on how to fix this or if it's nearly a total loss.
You better get used to this Florida humidity!! Great job!!! Wow! Now you got me thinking I can do it!! I had the entire front done in PPF….. great job!! I’m thinking…. 1 panel at a t time!!!
I know that wasn't easy, but, with patience, doable. I had hesitated getting it done early on because of the cost. As a sort of consolation, I bought a ceramic kit and did that the weekend after I took delivery, now a little over a year ago. So curious if you have any recommendation on if there is any prep I'd need to do to install this kit? (I assume paint correction and clay bar in addition to the prep you mentioned.)
How much trimming with the knife is needed, thats the only part I am scared off? Also can you do a car wash after installing the PPF? Did you use any specific car shampoo to wsh your tesla before the wrap?
@@BeardedTeslaGuy thanks! It went pretty well but by the time I got to the lip part of the bumper I started to not care anymore lol. My back was killing me lol 😂
Thanks for an informative video. Wrapping soon after delivery is the right answer. For your previous PPF wraps, I believe you had to contend with a few rock chips or scratches. Any recommendations for touch up paints?
Nice vid, always like watching Tesla PPF videos to pick up any extra tips. A pro helping you out! No fair! How do you guys know these people? I’ve watched a lot of #DriveProtected videos. I’ve installed PPF on my 3 and recently did all 4 doors. The first door took about an hr, I think, since I was going slow, the others went a lot faster. A lot of vids don’t show the time it takes to prep the car like washing, touch up paint, clay barring, cleaning the edges, and polishing/cleaning the paint if needed. That adds on hrs extra time on top of the PPF install but makes the install go a lot smoother. I recently learned you can use heat to carefully heat and push down, not rub, the edges where the film isn’t sticking well. I tried it and it worked great. Planning on putting PPF on the rocker panels soon then the rear panels, trunk lid, and rear bumper!👍🏽
Well done. I don't have a heated garage and if I get my Tesla in the winter what is the lowest temperature you can apply the PPF to a car and still get good long term adhesion, etc...?
50 starts to push it from my understanding. 70 is ideal. One thing you can look at is a space heater just to get temps up a little while you install. I’ve done that before lol
Hey BTG, thanks for posting this video. Super helpful for me as I plan on installing this same PPF kit once it arrives. I do have a question though, did you heat treat the film once you were done? Cheers!
Thanks for the information. When those Florida Love Bugs get on the front of the car how easy is it to get them off with that film installed? Also, will the Love Bugs damage the film and show spots where they have smashed unto the front of the car? Thanks for any information you can supply.
They will still etch the ppf if you leave the guts sit too long and bake in the sun but with the ppf to can be more aggressive scrubbing them off then if it was just a naked painter surface , I heard ceramic coat will help with the bug wipe off
On their website they indicate a multi-piece or a single piece front bumper PPF. What is the difference and is one preferred over the other? I have a 2022 Model Y LR.
Just discovered this channel while on vacation in northern Ontario. @Eric Sawatzky I have a model Y on order and considering doing a wrap. What happens if the wrap gets damaged? Is there a way to repair it and if you need to remove and replace a section, how is that done?
Welcome my northern friend! If a film piece gets damaged, you just remove it and replace it. It is self healing so it will correct some scratches, but obviously not a major tear if it was a large object
I know your pain. Had to go through the whole front end last year in Tampa, FL myself. Was HOT AF and dusty AF with garage door open. Say, do you have any tips to get the grime off that can build up along edge of PPF (post install)? The black dirt that like sticks to the edge.
Just to put this deal into perspective, I just spent $200 to get the front lower lip piece repaired/spliced due to an impact of metal Road debris . Ppf took the impact and was ripped off but paint was 100% ok- looks like I could of gotten the whole front bumper for Nearly what I paid for 1 small section. I’ll have to give it a try next time, thx
If I were in your shoes and I were trying to do this by myself, my video would be rated R because I would be swearing up a storm. I guarantee that I would not be able to get out of doing even one panel without dropping more F bombs then Tony Montana.
Hey BTG. Thanks for posting this video. I’ll be doing my PPF on my own because of you. Did you use the multi piece or single piece bumper kit? Thanks again!
Most welcome! And remember, even if it’s not perfect, you saved a TON of money and still have protection. Get the multi piece! You will thank me later, or you won’t realize how much easier it was to install 😂😂
That’s a very fair question lol. This is the 4th time I’ve done it and the first time the pro came out from Canada to do it with me, which of course I didn’t turn down haha
I have a white model 3 and I keep seeing how precuts can build up dirt after a couple years under the adhesive edges. Is this preventable? Or do I need to go with bulk because of that reason so that the edges can be wrapped? I at least wanna get 5 years out of it.
Yes, it is preventable. Its all about getting the edges laid down properly. Letting the material really dry and continuing to press them down until they are fully stuck. Some people use a heat gun to cure the edges a little quicker. Just be careful with a heat gun or blow dryer.
The Matte PPF is here. Still on the fence on it. $3k is ~5% of the car cost. I suppose you can run the car through the car wash without concerns? Getting MY on Tuesday so need to decide soon.
@bearded Tesla If you were to do the front by itself, how long would it take for 1 person to do? I understand the purpose of spraying underneath the coating but what is the purpose of spraying on the top?
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Wow 4 hours for the full front? okay.. not sure if I want to do that but I will see how much it cost for a third party and then decide. thanks!
I’m coming your way in September, maybe Eric can come back for a visit and do a frontal PPF on a Model Y. I’ll be happy to donate my car for this experiment. Lol
Nice job; you obviously want it bad to do that amount of work on top of the still-considerable expense for the kit. (I guess if we had paid today's prices for our Y instead of the relatively paltry sums of 2020, I'd have had to consider it, but unless and until the car experiences $5500 in chip & ding damage, I feel OK having left our car "naked", "au naturale", "unsheathed", as it were...
Thanks for the very informative video. I will certainly consider buying once as I am waiting for the model y delivery. @BTG I think you mentioned in previous video that the PPF is 3M Pro, right?
To wrap the whole car that’s a great deal. BTG20 also gets you 20% off unless you already applied the code. I did my cars in 3 stages, except for the 3. I did front 3rd, then sides, then rear 3rd to break it up
So has this channel turned into you just showing stuff to get free stuff or money or to help advertise for others? Where’s the road trips? How many vids will you make on PPF?

@@BeardedTeslaGuy I haven’t worn pants in 15 years.
If you could do it again, would it have been helpful to put the front end on ramps to more easily apply the front bumper film and also for the rear?
Sure. Some people do that and apparently that helps. I have a low to the ground stool I use and it works good enough for me.
