One of the few full Sharks games I've been able to catch the whole game. Overall, they held up well to Edmonton! But Askarov was playing out of his skull. One of the best goaltending performances in the regular season I can remember seeing. If he keeps this type of play up, then he's the perfect foundational piece to move the rebuild forward. That's the good news too from what I saw tonight: the rebuild is clearly progressing well!
Excellent analysis again, Professor. During the last two periods, the Oilers spent so much time in the Sharks zone, I had to keep looking at the scoreboard to see of the Oilers were on a power play. And when the Sharks DID manage to eventually clear the puck, it came right back. I wonder if that was a franchise record for shots/saves for Askarov in a period during the second period. Now if SJ just had some defense...
Hey Professor, Yeah, Askaroff really played a great game. I wish he could have held on for 18 more seconds to secure the win because he deserved it tonight. Yaroslav definitely got some puck luck a couple of times when the net was wide open but, he shut them down hard time after time otherwise. Yeah, I think this is just what I was saying about the other top teams we have faced recently in that its a good measuring stick as to where we are as a team. Granted a loss is a loss but, that we could go toe to toe with the Stanley Cup runner up from last year and still earn a point and almost 2 points in regulation I think is very encouraging for all concerned. We are in a good situation right now in that we can hang with the best on most nights so that next year as our prospects ripen on the vine we will have robust competition for roster spots every year for the fore-see-able future. The only question really is how well we will do the remainder of the season and who will still be a Shark at seasons end. Cheers Professor! P.s. Oh, and will Maclin win the Calder! Pete Clovis, CA
It’s funny I was talking to my friend about this game before watching your review and I literally said “this could have easily been a 7-2 game if not for Askarov” I think out of the last four games they probably deserved a win the least here. Pretty bad from basically the start of the second period on. Also when it comes to Smith I’m really not loving his handling so far. I think he needs another look at the top six and he needs to SHOOT THE PUCK. He’s got such a great shot and I see him opting for a pass to less skilled players and it makes me want to rip my hair out.
Yeah we deserved it the least, yet it was the closest one haha. I’m not sure if a top 6 spot will open up unless Kovalenko struggles mightily, but I would like to see Kostin-Wennberg-Smith when Kostin is back. As long as Goodrow is kept away..
This one really hurt lol Scoring 2 goals in the 1st, and then nothing after that. They need to be better. I mean if Rutta can score his first of the season, I'm shocked someone like Eklund or Toffoli couldn't manage a goal. I think Smith getting bumped down to 4th line messed with his confidence a little. Can't wait for lefty Sam Dickinson to be mixed in and take over a spot, but Cagnoni and Schuldt on the Barracuda are a couple other lefty D men I wouldn't mind seeing on the Sharks if that's what it takes right now
@@caravaggiohs9020 Next year I don't know, I expect them to be better than this year but not really fighting for a wildcard spot. Young guys like Dickinson, Cagnoni or Musty will probably be playing in their first year in the NHL and that's a big jump, and for Celebrini and Smith sophomore slumps exists as we can see with Bedard. That's why I see them begin to fight for a wild card spot in 2 years rather than next season.
@@Me-eq3sg for my expectations of this team this year, being 18 or so seconds from beating Edmonton in regulation was good enough for me to say that, so it’s definitely all relative still. 😂

Another ripping video against Goody. I’m staring to come here just for this.

I started getting really nervous when entering the 3rd period with the lead.

This so much
Good video professor. So, is Yaroslav Askarov the franchise goalie the Sharks have been looking for?
I certainly hope so, and it’s looking like it right now
Just needed ferraro to shoot that one time...
who will start in net against vegas?

I think Smith was on the 4th line because Ryan doesn't trust him against the Oiler's talent. I think h'll be back up on 2nd or 3rd line next game.
"And then it just kind of fell off a cliff" 🤣

We have to enjoy this Rutta goal, it might be his last with the team
I feel bad for Askarov, but I feel good for the tank.
how many more seasons until the sharks actually start competing for a play off spot?
I'd say in 2 seasons they should begin to fight for the playoffs.
Next year if they make some big moves and get lucky with some prospects, otherwise 26-27 season would be the target
the day we waive barclay goodrow
I’d say next year we hope they are competing for the playoffs and the year after they HAVE to be getting close and hopefully they actually make it.

Heartbreaking loss. Celebrini just got a little too fancy in OT.
Should have been much worse. Askarov was amazing.
We were so good….. for like 59 min plus 😬
And yes I know the Oilers missed a lot of open looks. 😅
Idk if I would say “so good” but they did almost win at least haha
Yah that is pretty optimistic. Definitely a deserved loss where askarov and a lot of luck made it look close
That said we did have our looks
