Live From Here with Chris Thile is the modern variety show, broadcast on public radio stations across the country. Each week, you’ll hear the best in music, comedy, theatre and more. With a world-class house band and fantastic special guests - from longtime favorites to exciting new voices - it’s something you just have to see for yourself!
I love how there is not a single phone in the crowd. They are just living the moment.
@mud6992 people have totally lost the ability to criticize. People enjoying something doesn't mean it's the best thing to do. If you film and not enjoy the moment, you're almost delegating the enjoyment to the moment you post on social media. Criticize man, you can't just be perfectly politically correct, jeez.
Every time I play this song it feels like I'm hearing it for the first time.
For real, love this man. I’m in the uk, but wish I could see him live
Exactly brother I've been listening to it through the last 4 years continuously....and speculating that this song never gets old....❤
GAI is once in a generation.
Yep, he sure is. But, if you haven’t yet listened to Johnny Flynn’s music, give his recordings a listen.
I mean he’s incredible but isn’t it pretty accepted at this point that Isbell is the current standard bearer?
I'd argue he's just a derivative of Ryan Adams .
I discovered Joshua Hyslop and Peter Bradley Adams recently. And what a discovery
Summer of 2013 when i started hearing this song i also started dating my wife. Always brings me back. I love her even more. We've been through so much and we are still here.
Had the pleasure of seeing Gregory and his band live in Chicago last year with my sister. GAI has easily has become my favorite artist. The way he and his band conduct themselves on stage, the stunning music and instrumentalists, and the fabulous audio production make for a one-of-kind live experience.
Also, that mandolin solo was FILTHY good.
You n ur sister r pretty awesome too..
Really enjoy your cover of this tune!
Totally agree! This is my favorite song of his! Chris Thile only plays the good notes!
The mandolin solo was superb....and beautiful...
Thank you and your beautiful sister for making an amazing cover of this song, Chase.
MAYANS MC series finale brought me here!! Great song
This was the PERFECT song to end the series Mayans MC to. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢❤
Discovered him from the haunting of hill house and now he has become my favorite artist.
Same. Wish I found him sooner.
@@renyukgoncangmakan Everything happens at the perfect time. Share his gift with other people so they can find him sooner too (:
I love the fact that no one is screaming and badgering and yelling obnoxiously and clapping their hands, over the tones of Greg and his band. It's absolutely disrespectful to those who save up money to see their favorite artists only to be bombarded with distracting noises and over dramatic "fans" while I give a huge credit to Greg and the band for such an amazing live performance. Shout out to the live Audience for being respectful the entire time and listening to the music speak for itself as it should be. Well done.
Went to see him in Cinci and some girl kept shouting Big Black Car after every song, so annoying
that was in my mind too listening to this..and i imagined me to be there too..😀😀.. stupidity of me😁😁
How incredibly pretension and selfish of you to assume that your method of music appreciation is the only valid form. There are many cultures all over the world that clap and stomp their feet to music to participate and show their appreciation for it. Some people go to concerts to be part of the chorus not just to examine the music like a beetle on a card. If you want to listen to unimpeded by "common folk" listen to the album and be done with it. If you want to go to a concert you need to be prepared for the certainty that people will enjoy music in different ways than you.
@@hastyscorpion I totally get the "be there in concert to be apart of the chorus" I can agree with that. But if you think that's my only version of music appreciation, than that's where you are wrong. That is just a very good example of one. There's all sorts of different genres of music that calls for "stomping your feet" or "clapping your hands" metal, rock, a little bit of blues. Than there are cultures that use the clap of the hand as the instrument itself. But in the culture of the USA, where the concerts are funded by the hard earned money of people, it should be automatically respected that I'm not gonna go there and over yell and holler over Greg and his teams music (especially for his type of music where its folky and kinda slow) what you say is "Selfish" I disagree, it's the complete opposite it's mutual respect out of and for everyone. Heck, there's a comment above that just proved my point. The girl was yelling "Big Black Car" after every song. You're in a tight environment and you're close to complete strangers. So out of the many options of "music appreciation" you're basically going to scream at the top of your lungs demanding a song to be played while also sitting next to a stranger completly disregarding the amount of noise comfort for his or hers ears. The list can go on and on. You're version of "music appreciation" is (from what I read), "Music is universal and different to each person" in short. Yeah if the concert was free, you can jump off each others backs for all I care. But as soon as money comes in, people pay for the artist at the end of the day. Not for some fan to ruin the show.
@@hastyscorpion it's just like a movie, you don't go there and talk the entire time. As I stated before I can go on and on. Out of respect for you, I'm not gonna completly just call you an idiot and say you don't have the vision of what true music appreciation is and all that. I'm sure you have examples, and I have examples too. But I can see where you thought sitting still like a duck is the only way to appreciate music, because that's kinda what it sounds like in my comment. Which I do get. But to not waste your time and mine, I get what you're saying. Peace and farewell.
The haunting of hill house is a piece of art fr
RIP. EZ Reyes (Mayans MC season finale)
This song worth millions of views
I dedicated your music to my 2-year-old baby on his birthday
Found this song during Californication. One of the best scenes of that season. Duchovny did a great job expressing the emotion of “I will go, if you ask me to.”
Thanks to Alan, this song is a gift. I lost my love, my friend, my partner in life last year and, one day while I was working (trying not to think on my sadness), I heard the sound of this song... Immediately, I realised this was the song, not to him but to our love.
Please take care. Everything's gonna be just the way you want, pretty soon.
God bless you lady 😊

Thanks so much for those words! I'm also sure that everything will be ok!
I'm so happy cuz I live in a world where there's people (just like you) who stop their steeps to hug others.
This beautiful song reminds me, that now, my soul mate is one with the universe, what more can I ask!
@@amarantaviridiana8887 lots of love from India ❣️. Hope you were alright, all this while and I pray for your well being. Where are you from ?
@@PrabhChat Wow! India! What a nice surprise! I'm from Mexico :)
I'm sure everything is going to be ok and full of love!
Tons of love for you!
@@amarantaviridiana8887 you seem to be a really nice person. We shall talk on mail and have a good conversation 😊.
Hope you don't take it otherwise, I just like talking to people.
This man is a hidden gem in music
Holy shit this is so good. One of my favorite songs. GAI is the best hands down. The musician of my life time.
Melissa Guynn listen to dylan!
Annnd Chris ThileIIIII Sooo good!!!!
This man is just immensely addictive to listen to, he's amazing!!!!
I discovered Gregory Alan Isakov at the end of the Netflix series "Haunting of Hill House" with this song at the end of the series. Since that time I have listened to his music for so many hours. He is incredibly talented.
What a series, what an ending. And this song at the end is the cherry on top.
Lyrics:
This house
She's holding secrets
I got my change behind the bed
In a coffee can
Throw my nickels in
Just in case I have to leave
And I will go if you ask me to
I will stay if you dare
And if I go I'm goin' shameless
I'll let my hunger take me there
This house
She's quite the talker
She creeks and moans
She keeps me up
And the photographs
Know I'm a liar
They just laugh as I burn her down
And I will go if you ask me to
I will stay if you dare
And if I go I'm goin' on fire
Let my anger take me there
The shingles man they're shaking
Back door's burning through
This old house she's quite the keeper
Quite the keeper of you
I will go if you ask me to
I will stay if you dare
And if I go, I'm goin' crazy
Let my darlin' take me there
If I go, I'm goin' crazy
Let my darlin' take me there
Gracias
Thanks!
Thankyou
Chris Thile is so bad ass he doesn't even have to be bad ass to be bad ass which is what makes him bad ass.
For anyone who's had to leave a place that was home this song rings so true.
Lots of good memories listening to this song while racing down the spine the Western US on my bicycle.
lost my wife of 36 yrs ,my maggie this song has helped me thru
Hang in there bud. Keep her love alive with and within you. Hope you're getting to a place where you need to be.
This house is holding secrets. I've got my change behind the bed...In a coffee can...I throw my nickles...just in case I have to leave."
That line guts me.
Who on gods slowly less green earth thumbs-downed this performance?! Beautiful rendition.
I’m Woodstock generation and I love this guy!!
Same
I have to admit I'm That Person who looked up this song because of Haunting of Hill House but I've listened to so many versions and just....sat and had a lot of feelings so many times that it probably matches up to a lot of people who knew it earlier :P this is particularly beautiful
Love is the relinquishment of logic,
the willing relinquishing of reasonable patterns.
We yield to it or we fight it
but we can not meet it half way.
Without it we can not continue for long to exist sanely
under conditions of absolute reality.
Hill House, not sane,
stands against it's hills, holding darkness within,
has stood so for hundreds of years and might stand a hundred more.
Within walls continue upright,
bricks meet neatly,
floors are firm,
and doors are sensibly shut.
Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House
And those who walk there. Walk together..
This is one of the most real and beautiful things I've ever seen than you for this
Beautiful version of this song. Gregory Alan Isakov never disappoints.
What a soulful voice, I discovered him with The Stable Song, I forget which auto manufacturer used it in a commercial but his voice and lyrics caught me!!
I discovered him not because of Hill House. Mark Knopfler took me to Ruth Moody, then she took me to the Wailin Jennys. Searching for someones similar, I arrived to the work of Red Molly, The be good tanyas, and finally Gregory Allan Isakov. What a sort of good music listened in the last months. With rock'n roll in his last times of glory, the essences of music still keep in american folk. And specifically GAI has something in his sound that make you think he is in another level.
He is brilliant,, His voice has a pathos that touches the soul n makes you feel miserable yet nostalgic that brings you time n time again to hear this masterpiece
This song is so haunting. No pun intended. It really is just otherworldly.
Didn’t know thiles was part of this… makes it that much more special
Gregory with Chris Thile on mandolin. Now that's a good combo.
Not many artists like this today. Not just music, but words that touch the spirit. A great song from a great artist! Thanks!
Wow, this really fills the heart
This application is one of the reasons I think the electric guitar is among the most beautiful instruments. So evocative, and powerfully subtle, and expressive. In the right hands, few instruments can say as much.
David Dunst agreed. As a musician, I learned early that the key to playing electric in this circumstance isn’t when to play, but when not to play. It’s when art really hits your soul.
Thile knows subtlety and nuance like no other. He just knows how to stand out without standing out when he plays
The first time I listened to this beautiful song was in Virgin River!! Awesome!
Oh my god I’m speechless so beautiful
Yeah its a great lovely song remembering the lovely moments of the series: VIRGIN RIVER🥰
After I heard this song I repeat this song all day long. It is touching. Beautiful ! I am in greg’s music deeply.
I’m going to see him live tonight I can’t wait !!!!!!!
Thanks so much for watching clips of Live From Here, if you enjoy this checkout Chris Thile and Punch Brothers new musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour. Season one is streaming here: bit.ly/ecmh-season1
OHHHHHHHHHHH.......where has this been?..oh, I remember now. I was taumatised by a narcissisistic discard in late 2018 until 2021....but I am awake now...and here it is...one of ten songs which kept me breathing.
I AM SPEECHLESS...the "live" version....PERFECTION.
Thank Gregory.
This came on in the background as I was surfing in another window. His voice just gets to me. Had to quit all I was doing, just to come back and watch this... it's such joy when you find a voice that resonates with you, and having the composition, fellow musicians and performance built like this, well, I consider myself very lucky indeed. Thanks for providing this!
I have words to describe how this song makes me feel
I can listen to this song many times and it’s as though I am hearing it for the first time ... just awesome
How this only has 117k views after 6 months is beyond me. I was crying to this song way before Haunting of Hill House.
Wow 😲😳 very talented.
Hauntingly beautiful!

What a heart ripper..................
This song is oh so very beautiful and haunting (GET IT!?!?) on so many levels. I love it.
Him with the guitar is just perfect, no need for other sounds
I recently bought a box of dark chocolate-peanut butter cups from Trader Joe's and couldn't eat just one. I listened to this song for the first time, and played it again... and again... and again. What rich lyrics-vocals-music. It grips your soul and doesn't let go.
One of the most moving songs I've ever heard. Rare to have a song take me through such a massive range of emotions.
this live version is better than the recorded! amazing! thx
Wonderful song
Oh my god this song make me gonna cry how beautiful and sad
Eyes closed but still rocking the whole place
Haunting live version of one of my favourites!
Such an underrated legend
thank you for remaining the same awesome musicians through these changing times
Absolutely Beautiful❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️My dream is to see GAI, Glen Phillips, and Chris Thile together on stage one day.
Great, just GREAT. I was just trapped in a loop of live performances of Bon Iver and thus my crying was relentless. Then I thought it would be a good idea to come here. This is my life now.
My #1 got married Saturday and I am rudderless. My understanding of this song is profound.
Who is here after watching the brilliant “The Haunting of the Hill house” ?
Me roi
A lot of us were here before that but also such a beautiful scene so I’m glad you found Gregory
@@Robert-sw1xx Absolutely delighted to have found him . Yes
@@Robert-sw1xx I'm so glad I've found him 🥺
I still can't believe how brilliant that show was. I was not expecting that much range in story and character.
There is no doubt that this is one of the best songs of all time. I wish the world at large knew of this song. It heals. It redeems. It penetrates. With so much insanity right now... we need those elements. Thank you, Gregory and Co.
GAI as a guest artist on this incredibly excellent show with an awesome band, including Aife on backup vocals. This is a perfect storm of musical magic. Soul, lifted......
Wow! Every song, every performance he does and the musicians around him are amazing!! The man speaks to my soul!
This is another awesome performance of "If I Go" on the TH-cam channel. Imo it is a goldmine. And it is infinite. The mandolin is a winner in this song!!
Love everything about GAI. He is the best there is... also his band is so great !! Thank God for Gregory !! 💓
The sound of mandolin guitar

So moving on so many levels. I love seeing Aoife do the harmony, and the riff by Chris Thile towards the end just brought it together beautifully! Gregory Alan is one of my favorite artists to see live. Kudos!!
