The book "No Bad Dogs" by Barbara Woodhouse is also still in print, I believe. Same philosophy, the same basic decency towards animals.
Sadly, 99.9 % of the time people kill innocent animals for pleasure.
I don't support Kristi Noem in any way. She is cruel. That said, most people support shooting innocent animals in the head--they just do it vicariously and pay slaughterhouse workers to use the captive bolt gun. We humans don't need to eat other animals (in fact, vegans live on average 6♀️ to 10♂️years longer than carnists). And innocent animals do NOT deserve to be incarcerated, tortured, branded, castrated, and have their teeth and other body parts cut off (all without anesthesia), then killed at a fraction of their normal lifespans--many dismembered while still fully conscious--just for the pleasure of human taste buds. 😢

Really if an animal bites your child would you train it or would you take it to a shelter for them to kill. Shelters all over America put down dangerous or aggressive animals. The publisher "Center Street" is what is known in the industry as a "vanity press." Anyone can pay to have their book published by a vanity press, no matter how badly it's written or the topic of the book. The vanity takes your money and laughs all the way to the bank. They have no morals to be outraged.
But consider: She could not convince a reputable publisher to put it on the shelves. Her book was not good enough for them. It was so bad she had to pay someone to print it.
Perhaps South Dakota voters should consider "rehoming" their governor to retirement the next time she is up for reelection.

I agree! I had a neighbor when I lived in the country, who was a Psychopath. If his dog sniffed a male dog, or did anything he didn't like, he would shoot it and get a new dog and the cycle would continue. He must have had 15 or 20 dogs this way. He wasn't alone, sadly, in doing this. We were told to keep away from him, and we did! It turns out he was doing horrid things to his daughters, too. DISGUSTING POS. Like Kristi. If someone hurts or kills an animal for no reason, watch out what they will do to humans. Unfortunately when this happened with our neighbor, any complaints we made were ignored, as it was many decades ago. SICK!

I disagree with that, euthanizing horses with guns happens, especially if you’re riding in a remote area and the horse gets hurt. There are times when putting an animal down as quickly as possible to save them from undue suffering leads to having to shoot one. Most people I know will put their senior horse down via vet if possible…the fact that she put two down in one day sounds somewhat fishy….especially considering what we now know about her. There’s a difference though, her animals weren’t old, they weren’t sick or in pain. She seemingly has some serious issues and should NEVER be in charge of any living thing IMO.

When I think of what that Creep did to a puppy (a dog less than two years of age is considered a puppy, poor little Cricket was fourteenth months old.) I feel disgust and anger. I promise you that puppy was a way better dog than Kristie is a human.

The puppy was probably looking up at her pleadingly from the bottom of the pit where she threw him so he couldn't run away when he realized he was being killed. And that's how he got shot in the face.

Perhaps someone should educate this cultivator of cruelty that when one needs to "kill" an animal due to health considerations, one should choose euthanasia by a vet which isn't cruel. Oh and perhaps someone should educate her that there was absolutely no excuse for shooting a puppy exhibiting NORMAL, if untrained, dog behavior for a puppy of his breed. All she had to do was train the puppy using the CORRECT training methods. But she chose to be cruel. I would NEVER vote for anyone like her.

A good option is spaying and neutering. Don't know if Cricket was spayed, bet since she was complaining about her goat being aggressive and smelling awful, that tells me that he was not neutered. Spaying and neutering help calm animals down. Noem was probably full of testosterone herself and against such a notion.

i think it's more that she had no clue how to train a hunting dog...training that should have been begun at 6 months old not 14.

@@toscatattertail9813 not to mention that trainers for specifically Cricket's breed say it takes roughly 2 years to fully train one of these dogs for hunting purposes. That pup wasn't even a year and a half yet, there's no way she would have been trained properly.
@@toscatattertail9813 14 months is definitely more difficult but far from impossible. I have an American Bulldog aged 14 mos who I am training now, and he’s doing great. The biggest difference I’ve noticed over many years of owning and training dogs is that you can begin training a puppy almost as soon as you bring him or her home, but a grown dog must already know you very well, love you and want to please you before you can train effectively.
The people of South Dakota don’t need a statute of limitations to prevent her from being governor ever again and the American people should do the same!

If she bought this dog from a breeder, I hope the breeder sues her. In Florida, breeders have clients sign an agreement that the dog is to be returned to the breeder, not rehomed. not taken to a shelter, and certainly NOT killed. Breeders do take people to court over this.

My local animal shelter had a deaf little pitbull puppy. People kept returning her because she attacked other dogs, etc. They FINALLY found a home for her with a deaf child. That's how you treat a dog.

My dog was abused before we rescued her. I trained her as best I could but I realized that what she needs I couldn’t provide. I found a trainer that took her for 9 weeks and she came back a much happier and better behaved dog. She still has trust issues and guess what I’m still working with the trainer to help her. Dogs are not disposable.
Imagine having a psychopath like Noem one heartbeat from the Presidency and nuclear codes.

I'm using great restraint in my writing as to my opinion of Kristi Noem. This woman not only shot an innocent dog, but a goat as well. It follows if she has difficulty with her kids and grandkids, they'll wind up in the gravel pit too. I agree with @Sewlady718. All animal lovers who take their responsibilities as animal owners seriously should BOYCOTT this book!!! Responsible animal owners make a commitment to their animals, prepared to deal with any problems that may arise regarding their behavior or health. I've been through many issues with dogs and cats that belonged to me, and I never gave up on those animals. South Dakotans should be mightily ashamed of this governor of theirs!

Kristi Noem made a really bad decision here. Properly training a 'bird hunting dog' takes TIME... and EFFORT. It requires more than a few weeks, months, or even years to train them well. It's a sport. Athletes spend a great deal of time training & learning how to do their best. Same goes for a dog. Or a horse, etc. She grossly erred, then bragged about it in her autobio, and now is doubling down in defending her bs on the matter. In a recent TIME Magazine article, Noem said "...she told the story about Cricket to show that in politics and life, she was willing to do what was “difficult, messy, and ugly” if it was necessary". But, that WAS NOT necessary. People living in SD (the entire U.S., for that matter) should understand, when she says these things... she means to apply that same sentiment to her voting constituents/ the citizens of SD, as well. By 'her standards'. This is, yet, another warning sign of what to expect from her future agendas. 💩💩💩💩💩💩

Can you imagine the utter fear and horror Cricket experienced as Noem angrily drug this 14 month old puppy to a gravel pit and then shot the dog in front of a horrified construction crew in the face. What an awful way to die. Noem was embarrassed because she lacked the experience in training this dog and was angry. Furthermore, euthanizing a puppy by shooting in a gravel pit in a fit of anger is psychopathic.
She should have given the pets to the Asher House. Killing them because SHE can’t train them, maybe it’s the way she treated them. I would not vote for her for anything. God forbid she had a kid she couldn’t potty trained. She is a sick individual.
