English identity almost entirely consists of Anglo-Saxon, Celt, Viking, and Norman ancestry. The latest of those groups to arrive was the Norman around 1066. Literally 1000 years ago. For the past 1000 years, we have been one homogenous group. Our nation itself, the United Kingdom, was founded properly in 1066. And so our entire civilisation is the product of that one homogenous group and they are the indigenous people of the United Kingdom. The reason indigenous people are protected in other parts of the world isn't simply because they are indigenous, but because they are minorities, who have faced near genocide and still face threats to their way of living by the majority. "Indigenous" Brits aren't a minority who have had their entire culture overturned, their population being driven to near extinction, and being ruled over by a majority non-indigenous culture, so what protection do they need?
    If British indigenous "discomfort" is enough to stop immigration, then I'm guessing he would be in support of American Indigenous groups calling for a stop to immigration into America by non-indigenous Americans? Or land back schemes? I don't think so.
    Also, in reality the term indigenous generally refers to a group of people who are now the minority of their country as compared to their past conquerors or invaders. By this the only indigenous people in the UK are the Welsh.

    My child's nursery fees: £92.05 per day (still to young to qualify for 15 hours). We pay this per term, regardless of absence due to illness, so on average, it's more than that. Back of the envelope calculation: take a newly qualified junior doctor on £14.10 per hour, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks of the year is £29.3k. Factor in personal allowance, take off income tax (not NI or student loan repayment) that leaves £26k. Divide back by £52 weeks and 5 days per week that makes £99.91 per day. The difference of £7.86 is easily swallowed up by transport costs.
    The clueless woman with the purple stuff in her hair clearly hasn't gone to Tesco in a while because it's 90% self checkout . She has no idea what she's talking about. The above calculation doesn't work for someone on minimum wage unless there are grandparents around to help out with childcare. She also doesn't understand macro economics. There's a shortage of labour for the low-skilled jobs she looks down on. Fill those jobs and the employers make more revenue and profit, some of which will be re-invested elsewhere, including in higher skilled jobs. If they didn't add value, the jobs wouldn't be available.
    My guess is she has never worked or hasn't for several decades and doesn't understand the reality of life for a family with pre-schoolers where both parents want to work, and very tough financial decisions have to be made.

    Immigration is not a left v right issue. It's an issue that crosses all party lines and is of particular interest to almost everybody.
    The world is short of labour, and immigration is vital in order to bolster the workforce - especially in an era of aging populations and reduced birth rates, but there needs to be limits on who we allow to live, and work, in the UK.
    Not all migration is good migration - this is without question a true statement, however people who are willing to work, are willing to abide by our laws - not their own, and embrace our culture and norms should be allowed to be here.
    Work visas should be issued - based on skills and job offers, and residency should be offered after a certain amount of years of living here, and those who commit any sort of crime whilst working here should be deported. To live in the UK shouldn't just be a free option that anybody and everybody has.

Before Thatcher and the New Right the conservative party had actually been much more centre-right for decades. People have forgotten. They're still mistaking Thatcherism for 'real' conservativism.

    Really good interviews letting people talk. You may not agree with them but this is how democracy ( and conflict resolution) works. Big question is how to have the debate and keep the big billionaire $ out.

    • @kieranharwood7186
      @kieranharwood7186 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of these people are impossible to talk to. We are dealing with people who are monumentally stupid and were bought up to respect their elders, but because there's nothing going on in their skull but echoes of what others have told them, they couldn't work out WHY they should respect their elders and just think it's because they were old. They got through the easiest life available ever, where a moron with no skills could single-handedly support a 4 person family, and now they are old and think that we should respect them for managing to not choke to death on rocks that they tried to eat or something.
      They don't respect facts, logic, reason, empathy or even self-preservation while also thinking that they are smart, erudite, wise, thoughtful and compassionate. Because their elders ignored their inane prattle when they were younger, they will just ignore anything anyone younger than them says because they think that their ability to not die somehow means they aren't thick as a post, while also ignoring their non-cretinous peers because "they're too old to change their mind".
      Fortunately, as was recently shown, they are so moronic that any attempt to stifle the democratic voice of younger generations hits the brick wall of their idiocy. Hopefully they'll die out soon enough that the rest of us can bring the planet and human race back from the precipice of annihilation they've sleep-walked up to.

    To the lady in glasses: plenty of people have left the UK to live in better places globally. Clearly they're not going to leave in 'small boats'. I really fear for the future of the UK when people like this lady and some of the others (note the average age is in the 70s) is dictating policy based on outdated and ill-informed ideas. They need to get out more, travel the world (not just go to Cornwall or the Lake District) and really broaden their horizons otherwise the only ones left in the UK will be old people or young people on benefits.

    • @vmoses1979
      @vmoses1979 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course they don't flee in small boats because the UK passport is accepted in most countries. Pre- pandemic I was astonished at the number of young British graduates searching for jobs in Dubai while I was stopping over. And the economy has gone further downhill. If those fleeing war could come over by plane and have asylum claims processed in a humane method - there would be no reason to come over in boats. Not that there is anything wrong with that. The Puritans came over to the US on the Mayflower fleeing persecution on a boat.
