@Savage Cabbage so competitive sports like hockey and basketball stay then... In the history of hockey 10 unique teams have won gold. Canada has won 9 of 24 gold medals in the history of hockey at the Olympics. Basketball it's worse. Out of 19 basketball tournaments at the Olympic games the US has won 15 of them. The Soviet Union 2 Argentina 1 and Yugoslavia 1. The first win by the Soviets was massively controversial and many say the US should have a 16th. Table tennis is routinly swept by the Chinese who have won 28 out of 32 medals. Meanwhile in wrestling 39 different countries have won gold. Yeah wrestling is the non competitive one dominated by 1 team.
It's quiet reasonable tho, wrestling lack of superstars and tv rating and which ia very important for the future of the programs. Edit : they added back tho
The UK or England do not have any wrestling experience. I actually dont even think that England has a wrestling team or any wrestling in their country at all. They should of gotten some one that knows something about wrestling when having voice commentary.
@@slurwin119 Being a brit, I can tell you we very much have Wrestling here; we have both county and national championships. This was just a very incompetent commentator

I was thinking the same thing. Varner had always been a stud but to improve that much at the senior level really does say a lot about Cael (and obviously Varner)
All of the third-period comeback pins I have seen in 50+ years of wrestling, writing about wrestling, and watching wrestling could not have happened under these rules.
lol why do we spoil the winner in the title? the people coming back to watch it knows who won and the people who are new to it would love to see who wins for themselves. weight class, gold medal match, london 2012...why is that not the standard? any insight, anyone?
Unsatisfied egg I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm really trying to find out. But watch Kyle Snyder's Gold Medal match in Rio. They wrestle 3 minute periods there.
No, he don't need one and his cauliflower represents that he is a true wrestler. It doesn't really matter if it looks bad, yet to the wrestlers he is a badass.
I think Andritsev could have escaped his Ankle pick has he not bellied out that quickly, and kept his head up a little more. You know its a ankle pick (Thats why its elevated) when he rises up to appear to grapple then drops it down and rips it.
Anyways he was my coach in high school. Both my MA Instructor Kwong Ming and Wrestling coach made me do the Horse Stance with all off the joints: ankle, knee, back, shoulders, etc. in the exact same precise geometric alignment. I won a few kick boxing and wrestling tournament. Hawkeyes often lead the United States in wrestling my kung fu holds record for medals in national Kung Fu tournaments also many Sanshou/kickboxing title from local to internation level.
why do people cry about Yazdani not making the final? Injuries happen to great athletes also. Maybe he did not properly warm up? I'm just glad Varner is the Champ. He had a great tournament.
well im not sure i agree the mental toughness the conditioning is the best you can have these guys have the strongest work ethic wrestlers i believe adapt best to mma than any other sport
Wow, I always thought that Olympic wrestling was king. I didn't realize that WWE Wrestling is considered to be the absolute pinnacle of the sport. I just spoke to two former Olympic wrestlers and they suggested that WWE wrestlers, for the most part, are the greatest athletes in the world. Apparently, this is quite obvious to some but I was a bit surprised when the US Olympic Committee for wrestling voted not to allow WWE wrestlers the opportunity for tryouts as "they would dominate our wrestlers and that's not good for the sport" according to USA Wrestling President James Ravannack. Ravannack goes on to say "the fact that our wrestlers dress up in those silly onesies surely doesn't help matters." Gee whiz, who knew?!
+Bronze_Lion Anyone who has ever attended a WWE Wrestling event absolutely agrees with my comment. While their athleticism is impressive, it is their complete command of wrestling that makes WWE wrestlers the pinnacle of the sport. Take Kurt Angle, for instance, he will tell you that Olympic Wrestling, while fun, is a stepping stone to the professional ranks.
+Cero Ashura NOT at all. I read this in WIN magazine, I believe. The cream really does rise to the top. Just watch a couple of minutes of WWE or other top tier professional wrestling federation matches and you will be convinced. Are a few of the moves fake, absolutely, but the majority is top notch wrestling at it highest level. Plus, they don't wear tight, silly little outfits like this video shows.

I still cant believe the Olympic committee wanted to remove wrestling from the Olympics. That is just crazy.

@Savage Cabbage so you are assuming all he said is wrong because you think he doesnt play sports.
That’s cause when people think “wrestling” what comes to mind is the stuff you see in the WWE, not this
Remove one of the original sports that were even in the ancient greek olympics........talk about having no respect for tradition
It's quiet reasonable tho, wrestling lack of superstars and tv rating and which ia very important for the future of the programs.

I'd think a low single would be more of a leg tackle. It was an awesome ankle pick though.
You mean 'leg tackle' lmao
I love watching this. Jake Varner was a graduate of my high school!!! Bakersfield High! I followed in his footsteps and joined wrestling myself.
Good luck with your wrestling career! I am a wrestler myself, and I can tell you that its VERY fun from sophomore year on.

yeah I need to improve that move because here you can see how powerful it is.
"leg tackle"
