I LIVE IN TRINIDAD. Venezuela is 6 miles away and I see the amount of migrants coming to our little island to escape the social conditions. it is taking a toll on our nation. the US sanctions have hit hard and it has hit us hard economically since all our oil deals with our beloved neighbour have been torpedoed.

Catch 22. The corrupt government of Venezuela causing humanitarian suffering is why there were sanctions in the first place. Sanctions are not the absolute cause of the situations in Venezuela there are many factors over several years not just the years Maduro has held office.

But Lander didn't seem to say that the tallies at the precinct didn't add up. He pointed out problems with the checks to secure the system that seem to have been ignored, which is informative. But, it sounded to me, like he heard observations from poll workers and inferred a statistical discrepancy. Assuming they have secret ballots, that wouldn't be direct evidence. Also, Farnia mentioned that there were observers from both parties at the stations.
Maybe there is hard evidence about how individual polling stations results don't add up with the national reported results, but I didn't hear Lander explicitly invoking it.

She forgot to mention that the Carter Center declared that Venezuela’s 2024 election did not meet international standards of electoral integrity and cannot be considered democratic. Also to suggest that Edmundo can’t won by some kind of made up history about his pass as an ambassador is ridiculous. The people chose him because Maria Corina chose him after she was unfairly disqualified to participate as a president candidate. At the end it is very simple. If Maduro won why he has not been able to present any proof of it. They pretend that everybody has to trust the electoral council which is widely controlled by Maduro. Now they are trying to move the decision to the Supreme Court, which is also controlled by Maduro. This lady Nina is shameless. People who hates USA shouldn’t be supporting the criminal gang ruling in Venezuela just to hurt US. Doing that they are hurting millions of Venezuelan who’s are being left with a tough decision, stands against the criminals or leave the country. So far they are trying to fight back. And now I read that the Carter Center analyzed the available vote data and also concluded that Maduro lost. But was this video even about the elections? It was supposed to be about democracy in Venezuela, but it mainly criticized the opposition party. I was surprised they didn't mention that Gonzales couldn't win because he is too old! Lots of other irrelevant information was presented that has nothing to do with democracy and how Venezuelans voted. If some of these things are important, why didn't Madura bring them up when he campaigned against the opposition. Maybe he did and Venezuelans just decided anything is better than Maduro.

Recalling that almost none of the Venezuelans living abroad were allowed to vote; that about 25% of Venezuelans live abroad; and that Venezuelans living abroad to almost 100% voted for EGU, we see that even if the CNE figures would have been correct, EGU would have won if the election had been free and fair. Hmm… In her initial remarks, Farnia didn't actually address any of Lander's claims about the election, and only addressed one relatively minor issue in her final remarks. That seems a bit fishy. Also, pretty much everything she said makes it sound like the observers didn't really know much beforehand about how elections in Venezuela are run and didn't get to observe anything they weren't specifically shown. That doesn't instill any confidence whatsoever in their ability to assess the validity of the election. (And who the hell cares what Carter "once" said about the country's electoral system?) Maybe their conclusions are correct, I don't know. But if that's the case, then Farnia did a _horrible_ job of getting that point across in this interview.

First, kudos, good luck & best wishes to this incredibly courageous man, Prof Edgardo Lander. The fact that he is a man of the Left (what I'd refer to as the legitimate left) who is criticizing Maduro simply increases one's respect & admiration for him. I wonder if he will experience one of the unfortunate accidents that plagued dozens of Stalin's colleagues (e.g., Kirov, Zinovyev, Kamenev, Bukharin, Rykov, & eventually Trotsky, etc) as he secured power in the Soviet Union during the 1930s.
Shame, Mme Goodman, shame on you. I suppose that it's possible for someone who is so subjective, so biased, so one-sided, so blinkered to believe that Sr Maduro actually won this election, but I thought that you were more intellectually honest than this.
The losers, of course, are the Venezuelan people who will continue to "vote with their feet" en masse. Sr Maduro will have his country as his actions push his country deeper & deeper into a slough of corruption, authoritarianism, despair & despond, and you, Mme Goodman, will have defended this villain through your inaction.
As for this foolish woman, Mme Farnia, who says (8:32) that "...he [Gonzalez] has blood on his hands...." I wonder if Mme Farnia believes that Sr Maduro has any blood on his hands.

You have to love this: People who know nothing about a country and who probably have never suffered a dictatorship talk about that country as if they knew S#$T.
At NINA FARNIA: Think that Venezuelan people will vote again for a 25-year-old regime that has DESTROYED Venezuela, has destroyed its economy, has destroyed hope and possibilities of a better life, has destroyed the unity of families by making them leave the country for lack of a possibility for a better future, for lack of belief in the system, and for lack of freedom is WHAT IS UNTHINKABLE.
How desperate do you have to be to leave your country, walking hundreds and thousands of miles, putting yourself, your family, and your little children in real danger to leave a dictatorship and go to free countries, like the USA. Because what the LEFTISTS NEVER say is that people don't leave their countries to GO to CUBA, NICARAGUA, RUSSIA, CHINA, and IRAN. NO, THEY LEAVE THEIR COUNTRY TO GO TO THE USA.
Including NINA and AMY, who proudly live their lives in the comfort of Cuba (??). No, pardon me, in the comfort of New York. In the comfort of the USA.
What the LEFTIST never say is that the real cause of the economic misery in Venezuela, where since the "revolution" the GDP has PLUNGED 80%, is the rampant CORRUPTION that benefits a few of the top lieutenants of Maduro, Cabello, and the Rodriguez brothers. They DESTROYED the oil industry. Only in the last 5 years, they stole over 30,000,000,000 (the number of zeros is NOT a typo) from PDVSA. So, please, someone tell me how you destroy an oil company (a machine to make money)??? That is unheard of, and they did it.
Ms. NINA FARIA talks proudly of the Carter Center, but what she doesn't mention (not even by mistake) is that the Carter Center DISSAVOWED the Venezuelan election, saying that it didn't comply with the minimum requirements to be fair, and they had to do it from outside the country for fear of reprisals to their personnel by the government of Maduro.
Ms. Faria never mentions that the DICTATORSHIP's number two, Cabello, said, "We won, period. We will not release the "actas," and we never give up power." And this is not new; these people have for decades said that over and over again. A democracy?
So, I ask, Ms. FARIA, what you REALLY saw in the elections, in the counting of votes, in the proclamation of Maduro as president-elect, and in the NOT SHOWINGS of the backup documentation to sustain that claim when these documents are already available online by other sources? Going further, what is your agenda, who is paying you?
Whoever still defends this regime cannot be less than an accomplice to a DICTATORSHIP, and an accomplice to the TORTURE and REPRESSION that the government is currently inflicting on LAWFUL PROTESTORS.

All of the word salad of US Imperialism and US Intervention cannot explain away the embarrassing incompetency and corruption of the Maduro government that oversaw one of the worst economic declines (not tied to any wars) in human history. When 7 to 8 million people flee an oil-rich country due to poverty, it is hard to believe that a majority of voters would not vote for change. When you assume power and are voted in, you are responsible as a government for the welfare of a country and the Maduro government squandered the opportunity to improve the lives of Venezuelans. In the end, they ended up being just as bad if not worse then corrupt right wing Latin American governments that keep fat oligarchs in control of the wealth of poor countries. Eh, the US capitalist governing class has been know to utterly ruin countries not only to gain control of their resources.
But also because their people dared to elect socialists who prioritized kids going to school and poor folks having enough to eat and clean drinking water over US business interests.
Tended to be deadly afraid it might spread, especially in SA.

My point is the sanctions have never been about ending tyranny and fostering freedom. It’s about getting submission from any country that is of strategic or economic interest. The simple fact of the matter is the United States government has never forgiven them for refusing to kiss the ring. If Castro had chosen the United States over Russia in the Cold War, he would be our most celebrated ally in Latin America The fact that he was a communist would’ve been completely ignored, and that’s a fact.

The lawyer Nina Farnia who went down to monitor the election,States that it was fair. Did the delegation choose poling stations randomly? Or did the goverment take them to specific poling stations? This plays a huge part in a fair opinion and not one that is orchestrated.

    • @TorreFernand
      @TorreFernand 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

The election proceeded normally. The problem is she didn't stick around to see what happened after, which is clear from the way she talks. The problem is not "did the ballots enter the box correctly" the problem is "what happened between polling stations closing at 6 pm and results getting announced at 2 am"

He doesn't have to pay her. She is a far-left socialist professor of Critical Race Theory (source: her own bio on the Albany Law website) at Albany Law School, who tweeted praising Hamas ON October 7, 2023, and doubled-down repeatedly on that stance. She comes into this conversation with a strong anti-American (she would say "USian" because she doesn't know how language works) bias and an "end justifies the means" mentality for promoting socialist revolutions.
Perfectly in line with the ironically-named "Democracy Now" organization. If even they are playing a game of "both-sides-ism," you know that the evidence is overwhelmingly against them.
