Matt Moroney Well said, my countryman! Some of us wanted to remain in Union with Britain and others wanted full independence; but never did even the strongest unionist/loyalist movement in Ulster deny their Irishness alongside their countrymen! No matter how many times we are divided, we are One Nation. 2000 years has dictated this!!

Woofer59 I refer you to a quote made by the prominent Ulster-Unionist Moneypenny: "Ulstermen are Irishmen too. We love our country (Ireland) and work for its good. We do not want to be separated from our southern Irish countrymen." There is not a thing wrong with being loyal to Her Majesty and the Union yet retaining an Irish sense of identity. We old an Ulster identity here-- what makes up that Ulster identity is undeniably Irish- the Orange Order for one. You know of Carson no doubt. The Irish speaking Hurling Unionist from Dublin. We need not be so divided as we make out.

Hello from the US. I'm proud to say I lived in Dublin for four years when I was younger, and can trace my ancestry back to Ulster (County Cavan & County Fermanagh), Connacht (County Sligo), & Munster (County Cork & County Waterford). Although I support both the US & the Republic of Ireland in soccer, or football to all those outside the US, I only support Ireland in rugby. This version of Ireland's call is wonderful and though I sympathize with nationalists, I do not agree with those that criticize it simply on the motive of "appeasing the North". That's not what it's for. The Ireland team represents the four proud provinces, which each are equally Irish. Ireland is one island and one nation, and hopefully the soccer teams unite like the rugby team soon. COME ON IRELAND!!
It isn't our national anthem. It is a rugby song. The reason it is sung at away matches is because it is a compromise between north and southern Ireland.
