War is not a song to sing. 19 I was sent to Vietnam came home to people hating on us. My mind has never been the same at 73. Pray for PEACE your children may be next
It's an anti war song still very relevant today. War is always just shot away, so easy to start for those who think they stand to gain and fraught with such devastating results for those impacted. At the end of the song, love is the alternative.... just a kiss away....
Some other great tunes by the Stones are: "Paint it Black", "As Tears Go By", "Ruby Tuesday", "Emotional Rescue", "Get off of my Cloud", "Start Me Up", Honkey Tonk Women", "You Can't Always Get what You Want", "Brown Sugar", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Hearbreaker)", "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and so many more!
This was a song that was popular by the soldiers in Vietnam. The Rolling Stones have been around since the early 1960’s. There is a video with footage of soldiers fighting in the Vietnam war with this song playing during the video.
The woman you hear is Merry Clayton. They called her in the middle of the night to come sing this. She was pregnant and lost the baby the next day, whether it was connected to this, I don't know. She said she can't listen to this song.
The song is a warning of the eternal temporal proximity of war (it's always a shot away) and the murder and rape associated with war, and the song concludes with a pointer to the antidote ... love.
@@usertr13phinsup I am not being disrespectful. Your comment said they stayed home and got rich . My point is they were not part of the war which they were singing about as you suggest. Let’s just enjoy the music ok .
One of the best rocksongs ever. i've been listen to this many many times since it was released, never get tired of it is so full of everything. I'm from Sweden and we have a war going on pretty much next door, you know the Russians or shoukd i say Putin and his henchmen is on the warpath against Ukraine, terrible things are going on there, several hundred of thousand soldiers and civilians has been killed so far. It is scary with a guy next door who is throwing out nuclear threats all the time and they mean buisness, completely ruthless people. With the best will in the world you can't come up with a sensible reason for this ongoing war it is just pure Madness.
Nice choice for a first Stones tune. It amazes me that there are people in the world who know not of famous bands such as the Stones. My take on the song is that it is a fear-of-evil song. Use of the word children is just a way of addressing the audience. What's cool is that it wraps up with the notion that goodness can be just as near at hand. : )

I had this same analogy and posted it on many other reactions. Did you by chance read my posts? No one else said exactly the same thing.
The 1st world war even literally just started with 1 shot - the assassination of Franz Ferdinand.
British music at its finest
When Merry goes whistle register on the third “Murder” it really gets me. And then you hear Mick’s “Whoa!”
Consider the times, war was raging in Vietnam and there was social unrest in the US. And the Cold War had people afraid of a nuclear holocaust

Top ten song for me. Blues vibe with Charlie Watts beating the Hell out of the drums. Master piece with Merry Clayton's amazing voice cracking vocals.

War is just a shot away
Don't forget that they born when the bombs were falling all around UK. They knew exactly what they were singing about...

It's a take on how war affects innocents...a very straightforward song but brilliant. The Stones were very anti-war.

There is a reason they are referred to as the greatest rock and roll band ever.

This is another anthem from back during the Vietnam era.

The ultimate Make Love Not War song.
More Rolling Stones would be a great choices. Are you ready for something like Sympathy for the Devil? Another of their epic classics.
My interpretation is that good and evil are always very close ... either way.

Yes, child or children was used back then, when talking to or about someone.

The magazine is not theirs!
Please stop with the car videos during pause. Really distracting. You two are the first reactors not to understand the song.
Exactly what's the point of that car?? Already not feeling it. No way to grow your channel.
