I never had problems with Croc 1's controls to be honest (it was the very first 3D platformer I ever played admittedly). The need to buy items in Croc 2 was an annoyance admittedly (needing all 100 Crystals from a level to fully heal didn't bother me that much being as the boat race in world 1 and the Flavio the Thermal Fish boss fight in world 2 were both quick and easy to finish while giving 100 Crystals upon completion). My biggest issue with 2 was the fact that you only got one shot at certain rooms where you could acquire Golden Gobbos, requiring the whole level to be done over if I lost a life during them.
28:14 Partly correct, but worth noting Rare had a fairly modern style of dual analog FPS control scheme available in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, both earlier than Alien Resurrection, that let you plug in a second controller and hold one in each hand.
