One day I decided to sew a kimono just to entertain myself and it took me a whole month to sew, I remember that my fingers hurt a lot but it was worth it because it ended up being very good for my first time sewing a kimono I wish you could see it .

This was SO VERY very helpful. I wish I could explain how awesome it is to have this library of reference and kimono education. Your channel is absolutely amazing. I've gone from having a couple of boxes of stored kimono and obi, to now, planning wearing my kimono on a regular basis. I'm still waiting for the kitsuke set to arrive - I ordered it some time ago (the hadajuban arrived a few weeks ago - I'm sick of covid restrictions, but people's lives matter more, & when I remember that, my patience is restored), then I can practise dressing!!! This feels like a wonderful adventure, and it's made possible by YOU. Your fantastic videos! If it wasn't for this wonderful collection, my kimono would still be packed away. Super exciting ☺💃👘🌺💜
As soon as I'm (nearly) ready, I'm looking forward to booking a session. Now that is something I'm very excited about indeed. Are you still doing bookings via video chat? (it's September 2022)
PS what a beautiful kimono that is. It looks luminescent at times. I love it!

In pictures/media of people wearing kimono, I've always wondered how they get that specific shape. I sometimes draw kimono, so i always want to know about official references and why they look the way they do. Thanks for sharing ^^

Oof, glad it's not an *absolute* requirement to wear hoseigi... So. Many. Things. Already! I
I kind of wanted to thank you for all that you do. I finally bought a kimono+hakama set that I plan to wear on an everyday basis alongside my usual clothes (not all at the same time, of course, haha), and your videos helped me realize it isn't nearly as impossible as it once seemed. In all honesty, I do feel kind of lonely, since nobody I know shares a love of these types of clothes, or clothes reminiscent of other eras (I'm particularly fond of Edwardian/Victorian and 1970s styles, plus my trusty "color splash grunge"-y t-shirts + shirts + jeans + hoodies. Kind of a strange mess of a mix, I know. I like very different things, what can I say), so I don't really have anyone to talk to or ask for opinions. So thanks again, Billy, for showing me that wearing kimono in everyday life is not only possible, but more fun than I had originally thought!

I just found your channel and I am so in love with everything, I wish I was a woman so I could wear all this. I wonder if you could do more videos about men's kimono and how to wear it :) I would be happy to support on patreon too if I knew I could gain more knowledge on the topic, especially diys and sewing tutorials. Dear Billy, thank you for another fantastic DIY video, please keep making them they are so useful!! I have started sawing a nagajuban since lack of sizing on the market and I don’t like polyesters. So every video you’re making and specifically in the DIY section is super important! On another subject, I was also wondering if you could show o-taiko made on the front. Also, how about showing us around in your kimono in different seasons? Ah, all your videos are wonderful! So the desired silhouette is the bust quite high, rounded at the top. Straight back, and belly padded to have a smooth front in case you are quite full busted? Or is it ok to have the obi set back under the bust?

I don't mean to sound silly, but does one need the padding depending on the cup size or is it a smoothing element under the kimono...?

    • @BillyMatsunaga

It’s just a smoothing element under the kimono. It’s not related to your cup size at all.

Your accent is super cute and it is a very common mistake to pronounce the "r" in iron. If you fancy sounding more English you could try saying it like "ion" but it totally your choice. Love your videos xx
