Homemade electric jet engine actually works!

- This is a model of a jet engine (scale 1:90) that was made with an electric motor that moves a set of gears, with a flywheel that spins in 16:1 ratio, taken from a flywheel-driven toy car. The best part is that the flywheel makes the model react and sound similar to a real full-size jet engine!

An EDF jet is not a jet
in order to make a jet engine you have to use a combustible liquid and thats what powers about 90% of the machine
It does look good but it would be even better if built the hole thing.

Very cool how he tied in the turbine start switch, fuel control switch, thrust lever, and N1 gauge to simulate a real turbo fan engine. I'd buy one just for a cool desk piece. If anyone has detailed instructions of how to build one I'd be interested.

This is awesome. I want to make something similar for a long range, high altitude high efficiency rc uav I want to make.
I was thinking of 3D printing the shroud and trying to even include things like the nozzle to accelerate the air, and maybe take it a step more and make it fuel powered.
Do it think a similar electric turbine would be reliable enough?

You get an electric motor and drizzle a pound of hot glue over it. Its literally shown in the video take some initiative

Honestly, all it probably does is either enable the throttle to start working by completing a circuit, or giving the "engine" a little bit of power. I personally say the 1st one.

Let me remind you that a jet engine is any engine that uses a jet of air to achieve thrust, this definition includes rocket engines

@@aayush_789 100% N1 on most modern turbofans usually falls in the 3-4 thousand RPM range. And the only thing he is simulating here is an N1 spool.
