You are absolutely right! Love to hear someone actually sharing my exact opinion. I test drove the 2023 Model S 5 times and just could not fall in love with them. They are making loud road noise, the horizontal display is showing everything too small and the car is rattling. The LR version has louder motor whining noise than the Plaid. I have that Holy Grail version of 12/2016 Model With everything on it, Recaro seats, Sunroof, FreeSuC, AP3, MCU2 and CCS in solid white. Feels so much more premium, very silent with NO road noise. Still loving it after 170k miles.
Just picked up a November 2016 Model S refresh. It has 166,000 miles, sunroof, leather 90D. Cost? $15,500 less $4000.00 federal tax credit. Final cost $11,500. Car runs and drives like new. Getting rid of my 2019 M3P. Fantastic car!!
I own a Tesla Model S Performance w/ Ludicrous+ and fully optioned out. Rarely drove it during past year and now daily driving it and wow. What a machine.
What I really like about this generation Tesla Model S is a sunroof that opens. On a beautiful day, such a nice feeling to have a large sunroof that opens.
Last November I bought a 2019 Raven Model X with 30K miles from Tesla which came with FSD. Worth getting that year for 1 pedal driving and HW3. I really like the vertical screen as it is more recessed and having a round wheel and stalks. Love the car.
I have an early 2016 85D, currently covered just shy of 240,000 miles. All original main components. No rattles, great to drive. It has the CCS upgrade (previous owner) and I've just fitted the MCU2 and screens upgrade. Not the fastest to charge but pretty efficient. I've been very happy with it so far.
@@rayb1613 I think so. I was having trouble downloading the latest maps and my screen was leaking. So I decided it was time to upgrade. It does work well and even the reverse camera is much clearer. @@dougowt got chu. I have a Second more important valuable question! This 2016 is going for $42k via Kelly Blue book. The Dealership hasn’t put a price on it yet, but it says that on their online ad “ Market Value $42k n sum change “ - I’m paraphrasing here *. That being said. I looked at a 2019 Model S 100D w same amount of miles for $55k. My question is, What would be a correct price to pay for the 2016 model? They are both flawless, but I feel like the dealer is going to want $50k for the car… When I could get a 2019 model for $55k. ( Ps most these dealers don’t have a clue about all the features difference and how it affects a Teslas Value! ). My question is, can I use that to rough em down back down to the lower $40s range, and if so How would I use this info against them?. a 2016 and 2019 model have substantially major Changes! in their features, such as you said CHARGING, Computer screen and Performance!! Plz I would appreciate your advise. I’ll rather pay $40k for a used Tesla w free supercharging for life then any new EV in the market. Sorry for asking so many questions, I just know 90% dealerships don’t have a clue on pricing a Tesla Correctly.! - Again Apologies for the Edit! I have a billion questions 😓 but rather focus on the important ones first.
I remember this car from the first video where you picked it up, it was about the time I got my Model 3 and it taught me the Kyle Conner road tripping style - run it low then charge until it tapers. Great advice that has served me well.
I have a 2018 Tesla S with 130,000 miles. All has been great. The only unexpected maintenance is broken door handle retractor motor (ice storm in Buffalo). I've lost about 10% battery capacity -- but seems normal for the miles. Free supercharging for life is sweet.
Have you noticed a difference wit your battery? Do you regret not getting a model 3 performance over the s? I’m thinking of getting a 2017 model s p100d with 20k miles over a model 3 performance but I’m very skeptical
I'm driving a Model S 75D from 2017 which I gave the MCU2-upgrade and AP3-hardware. The battery has around 14-15% of degradation at 150.000miles. I just love the car, it drives great!
This video is partially responsible for me buying this exact model with 80K miles last week. This is my first EV. I've owned several sports cars, from Mustangs go Porsches. This thing is on a whole different level, by far.
I got my model s brand new in 2015. Still have it. Great car, tesla truly was a different company back then, not to say theyre worse now but when they just started out they were amazing!
@@matthewp1682that's only like 7 years ago. As someone who always buys used cars something that keeps me on the fence about EVs is when I hear owners talk about their rather new car as if it was old.

Have '15 and '16 MS's. Uncanny how little work needed, beyond practice at door handles, rusting steering knuckles (both in north) and patience with "updates".
I run the Cross Climate 2s, not for range, but for their outstanding wet tire performance here in South Florida, and also they seem to hold up for at least 20k miles, which is pretty good for a Model S
Cool to see you revisit this car. The road trip in this car you did was my first video of yours and in essence got me to buy my 2016 MS 75 (only though). And 101,000 miles later in 2 years it’s been great. Best upgrade was MCU2.
I have the same year model S with the same cross climate tires. Yes, range takes a hit but I like how good the traction is. I prefer good traction over some loss of range. And since I have free supercharging, I care less about the reduction of range. I have 95k miles on mine with about 7% degradation. Have sun roof silver. FSD for 5k and ventilated same seats. Leather. MCU2 upgraded. Upgraded cameras. Got it with all the upgrades (except for 3rd row seats). Still get about 140kw. Had it all over the US and Canada. Great road trip car. Yes charging isn’t as quick but the new cars charge too quick for me. I prefer to take a lunch break when stopping. Love it.
I have a 2014 P85D, and it has been a little bit of an adventure - many of the front suspension parts wore out (struts, 1/2 shafts, and more), and I did the MCU2 upgrade, but I must say… the Recaro seats really are fantastic, the sunroof is lovely, and the whole experience does feel like a $120k car, rather than a $60k one. Whew! I’m not sure if I’ll trade it soon, but what a cool product. Perhaps a Lucid is next? 😮😊❤
That road trip was my first out of spec motoring experience. I've been hooked since. It's been great watching how the channel(s) have grown over the years. Kyle and team do great work and are affecting the industry for the better.
Thanks for the shout out! Loved hearing your enthusiasm for this car, and I remember the original S and how much fun you had with it. I made 2 videos last week. One was the top 5 reasons why I won't trade my X, and the other was the top 5 reasons I would...except I refuted all the reasons. Seriously still very happy with the 2017 100D X.
This era of Model S was truly the peak in quality. The Ravens might be the absolute best. You can snag a 16-18 refresh Ludicrous S for less than half the price of a new one. A much better value IMO. There are a few common issues like the MCU upgrade and air suspension, but nothing that I would consider a dealbreaker. The max charge speed on the pre-Raven models is around 155kW, so that is the biggest pain point if you're a big road tripper. The 100 pack is still much better than the 85/90 when it comes to degradation.
Great vid. Have a 100D dec2018 build with now only 35000mls due to corona and homeworking. The lease is coming to end dec2023. Really like the new ones too, but think I will just buy mine off and drive it another 3 to 4 years. It’s a Silver Metallic a color no longer available in full option on Arachnid with sunroof, FSD etc.
It’s just about like you’re sitting in our 2017 X100D. Same black interior, same carbon fiber trim, but outside ours is dark gray. 105k miles and we bought it new. Free supercharging, 72 amp onboard charger, FSD Beta, MCU2 upgrade. About 8% battery degradation. We home charge when at home but road trip a lot and sometimes pull a camp trailer. I’m not afraid to explore off-road with it (SUV, right?) Love love love it. No, our car is not for sale. See me in another 5-7 years. I’ll think about it. Still looking to add Rivian max pack or CyberTruck to use as our tow vehicle for more range. We’ll still keep the X.
I just got a 2016 S P90D L+, with 120k miles (30 days ago) and it drives like a dream! Only finance 21k, price was 24K. Beside the doors handle malfunction, everything else pretty much perfect! Aligned it myself really quickly with 2 wrenches and a bit of patience. Saved $200 bucks!😂. Last night, I changed the battery setting to "Ideal" come to find out, my range is 296 miles to 100% and I am getting pretty much a mile per mile drive when driving at speed limit! Pretty impressive because I was getting also a mile per mile driven with default setting but my range was only 236 miles!! After 8 years old to be able to say I can almost get 300 miles range, (When driven decently) is more than impressive!! Not to mentioned, 110 degree weather!!
I had the Michelin CROSS CLIMATE 2s on my 2015 Chevy Volt, I took a 15 - 20% range loss. Insanely quiet, and excellent In the rain and snow... But I had to sell them because of that range hit.
Have a 17 S 100D with FSD purchased from Tesla back in December 2020 with 41,000. Upgraded to MCU2, and it's like a new car. Drove a new S and you can tell where Tesla cut corners to save weight. I did like the swivel screen function. Suggest Chris try the Pirelli PZero All Season Plus Elect tires. Super quiet, and appear to have good tread life so far. The nice thing about the OG S is the 19 inch tires are all the same size, and are more reasonably priced when time to replace. Kyle, tell your Dad that I feel his pain when taking the hit on his S at Carmax...
I agree 100% I have a 15 P85D and have the same experience. The Pirelli PZeros were the final piece of the puzzle the make the car ride like a quiet dream.
My 2013 S60 with tech package is holding up well mechanically at 157k miles. Hardly any squeaks, no rattles. No sunroof because I didn't want any water leak issues. I bought it from a private owner at 54k miles in 2018 with CPO warranty that transferred over. Battery at full charge shows 173 miles which is about 17% reduction in miles but the car is actually efficient and uses about 282 wh/mi at highway speeds which is 184 miles of range. Of course it's had some issues. Main screen replaced (leaking) - warranty, emmc replaced - warranty, door handle - warranty, rear axle nuts - warranty, 12volt battery x2 -warranty and self replaced, PTC heater replaced diy, door handle harness diy, blend door noise diy, xenon bulb diy, rear gear oil diy. LTE modem Tesla service center. Front stabilizer links diy. Rear drive unit was replaced sometime before I got the car (later revision) and HV battery pack looks original. I've added open pilot comma which is great for lane centering and includes lane changing. No radar cruise but then again I don't have phantom braking issues. Next repair will be lower ball joints.
Did the same MCU2 upgrade: the snappiness is very appreciated and it was also a requirement for the waypoint navigation which is very useful for me. Recommended!
I just side by side supercharged a '18 MX and '23 MY. I was taking both cars to 100%. The MX was at 80%, and the MY was at 30%. The MY took 30 mins and the MX took 45mins.😲
I have unicorn 2017 S90D unlimited supercharging, FSD, MCU2, next generation seats with heat and cool, free premium connectivity, sun roof and only 65K miles.
Interesting to hear “great build quality” even associated with a model s. I’ve seen and heard common problems like panels coming lose way more often. Though for the most other part no one has complained about the car breaking down.
Have you ever heard of Tesla adding a second onboard charger to increase the supercharger charging speed? I have a 2018 75D and the tesla tech said that sometimes he has see 2 48amp onboard charges for customers that do alot of supercharging.
The on board chargers are for AC charging. Two ac chargers allow the car to charge at 20kW on a high power wall connector instead of 10kW. New cars only have one. Superchargers are DC charging, the chargers are in the supercharger, last I heard there was 12 (but that was back when they were 120 kW). The newer battery tech is what allows the faster supercharging speed.
I have a 15 85, single motor. 150k miles, drives like new. Form Scan my Tesla I can see it lost around 9% in the battery. AP1 is simple but never fails. Only drawback is charging speed. One big upside I'd free supercharging for life. I'll keep this until the wheels fall off...
M3P owner here with CC2 tires. 2,243 miles on them averaging 299 Wh/mi. They are on my winter setup so the efficiency hit is almost all from the cold and not the tire. We’ve had a few 70° days in February and according to TeslaFi, I averaged in the 90%. Mostly highway driving. I’ve had a really good experience with them so far. Will be trying PSAS4 next time though.
in my experience, its actually quite the opposite. My 2019 Raven Model X has a TON of rattles and creeks, but not to the point of driving me to sell the car at least. But my dad's 2022 Model S Plaid has no rattles or creeks, which was extremely surprising, even after almost a year of having the car. Our Mercedes S-Class has more rattles and creeks than the Plaid
I have watched all your videos with your old model s. I loved that car. Really made me fall in love with Ev / Teslas. I am a frugal person. Always looking for a deal. Never like to pay max pay for anything. I just bought less than a month ago a 12/17 model s 100D. 39,000 miles. Fully upgraded to HW3 and MCU2. New seats premium upgraded. It was a salvaged title out of Texas and bought in Omaha Nebraska. It was brought through high voltage testing at Tesla and passed before I bought it. When I saw it I just thought about would Kyle buy this. Am I crazy buying this salvaged. I got a really good deal on it. Far less anything comparable than I could find. I keep telling my wife that this car is teslas sweet spot. I had to jump on it even though it had a salvaged titles. I researched the wreck and it was really just light front end damage no air bags deployed. Sill has tires and wheels from the wreck with no damage. I just found this video talking about these model s’s. It was 38k out the door no dealer fees. I feel like that is a good deal. Any thoughts @outofspec

Just bought a mid 2018 100D, looks very similar but has the mcu2, autopilot 2.5 one of the last to still have the sunroof. Price in UK was under £25k. Bargain for such a great vehicle. Unfortunately, it also has the factory 21" turbines, lovely to look at but suffered a blow out on the way home with it! 9hrs in a layby waiting for recovery because Tesla don't do spares 😂.
I'm mixed on these, love the old gauge cluster with those widgets and kW reading, but I do not prefer portrait at all, I think landscape is the way to go. I don't understand why the quality went down so much, from my understanding it's the same production line in Fremont making these so what happened? I'm torn on the stalks and wheel, I think the new interior looks better but might be a bit less functional.
Thanks! I have a 2105 P85D and I like it better than the brand new Model S that I test drove last week. I sometimes wonder if I might like the P100D a little better, or perhaps a 2020 model with the faster supercharging. I would like to turn my 30-40 minute charging sessions on a road trip into 15 minutes sessions. What's the ride of the 2020s like compared to the 2015-2018 cars?
I have a 2020 Model 3 Performance but it was in an accident last year so I got a loaner S of this style for a month. I liked it a lot. It's obviously more luxurious than my car but I prefer the way mine drives and the simplicity of the controls and screen versus the S.
Sooooo I have a 4-5 month old Tesla Model Y Performance, and when going over uneven terrain such as turning into someone’s driveway that’s higher or lower than the road, so the whole car kinda twists like a twizzler, I hear creeks and basically just hear the car flexing, I kinda thought that was normal? That maybe every car did this but you can’t really hear it cause the engine, or maybe cause my car is new and things should get loosened up, then I hear my seat creeking if I move my body around to get comfortable and that was just painful to buy such an expensive car, and to hear that, absolutely crushing, and I not once thought THAT was normal, but I did expect it to either go away as again I loosen up the seat so to speak, or go away as we start to get out of winter, along with the other sounds of the car, things being hot and more easily moving hopefully fixes all my noises, at least the seat please, anyway, what I’m trying to say is, the car flexing sounds aren’t normal? Should be solid as can be with not a single creek? Should I send it in to get fixed or will I be told it’s within speck?
Owned a 2018 Model S 100D that was the cheapest 'new' from Tesla, $69,100. Unfortunately we were in an accident in it back in November which totaled the poor thing. It was holding up so well, it had only 47,000 miles on it. Although I upgraded to a used 2020 Model S Performance, I still miss the 2018.
My P85D was almost perfect. I loved the Recaro seats, and nappa leather everywhere. Even though my Plaid feels a little cheap in comparison, it's a lot smoother on the freeway and I really like the interior design - I just wish the interior were of better materials and put together better. I do miss the radar cruise control - it was nearly flawless.
Ok I have to say my story. 2016 MS70 facelift rwd. 153k miles around 10% deg on the battery. When was new I been told it’s 221 now it’s 198. Ever since I own it which os almost 3 years, had no further degradation and I got the car with 117k. Consumption is around 250-280. Available battery capacity is 60kv. It’s the best car I ever had. It’s all original parts even the carpet. No tittles ccs adapter enabled. I love the car !😎
Kyle…need your expertise here! I have a Model S with Sirius XM. I have a bunch of channels added to my ‘favorites’ screen. However when I select one of the channels it takes me to ‘related channels’ instead of staying on a screen where all my favorites are displayed. Any idea how to keep the favorites constantly displayed for easier selection? I’ve not been able to get an answer to that issue so I thought i’d ask you. Thanks in advance for the help!
Mine does the same, definitely not the best UX, particularly since when you go back to your favorites it doesn’t take you back to where you had previously scrolled to before selecting a channel, takes you to the very top.
I am torn between a new id.4 or Model 3. Price is pretty close between 3 base and id4 pro base. The wife wants to spend the least time charging on long road trips. I like the efficiency and tech of the 3 as well as over air updates. The id4 has more room for the family road trips. We are currently doing everything with a leaf+ so realistacally anything is better. Just getting tired of the long charging times when roadtripping. Any thoughts or suggetions to help make this decission easier?
How many road trips do you actually take? The ID4 charges decently fast.. I think Kyle has some video on that. The ID4 compares more to the Model Y. ID4 will be more quiet for sure, and ride softer. More space for stuff. But the 3 or Y will have better route planning and charging and performance. ID4 software is still not updated.. and who knows if they will get that done. I just drove a base Model 3, its PLENTY quick.. and was nice and quiet to me.

Cool review. I sometimes wonder if I should have looked for one of these instead of my model 3. I like the idea of a bigger more luxurious car for my long drives.
Even though the car is much larger, the interior is not really that much larger for seating area. Trunk is bigger. The Model 3 is probably quicker, and handles better. The S probably rides better with air suspension. You can get a nice Used Model 3 for the same price, get newer tech in the car.
I have a 2016.5 (refresh) 75D and have loved it. I don't understand why Tesla won't give up on the stupid yoke without stalks and put more emphasis on interior materials and quality. I also prefer the opening moonroof that I have, versus the fixed glass roof on the new models. Such a shame to see them squander their lead.
Owned a 2015 model S and got to drive a 2017 Model S across Canada. It was an amazing road trip car. Now stuck with a Y and totally going to buy back a late 2017 to 2018 Model S 100D in a year or two with an mcu2.

There was a recall on the 1st gen MCU because of their failures. I replaced one in my 2013 MS for which I was later reimbursed. Did the owner of this get the money from the recall? My second one had the yellowing around the edge of the display which Tesla took care of by (I think) hitting it with a UV light for some hours. I replaced my 2013 with a 2020 MS Long Range (Raven). Still very tight with no squeaks/rattles. Could the noises yours is making be because it's a Plaid with different bushings? Also, does this 2017 still have free lifetime Supercharging?
Hi Kyle...., just curious what your preference is regarding 2017 or 18, 100d vs P100d? If you were purchasing on the used market at this time which would you go for & why? Thanks
No mention of the sunroof!?!?!? That's like 1 of the biggest changes but I guess with is being cold and snow on the ground I could see why you could have forgotten about it.
My father a year ago purchased a 2017 75D and I swear the build quality of older Model S is better. My dads car has no rattles, great materials in the interior, and rides great.
Kyle, How could you not mention the pano roof on that spec?? I love your work and this walk down MS memory lane is no exception. I recently got a 2018 100D w/ upgraded MCU & pano roof as 2018 was the last model year for that option.
Pre-M3 production, they took their time. IMO, Kyle, Free Unlimited Super Charging and, the downside, slow ~60-70KW charging are very characteristic of earlier 85s (maybe why you choose 100D ;). Few 2017/later cars received FUSC, making 100 KWh retro-fits in these earlier 85's (along with MCU2, etc) a consideration that has Tesla offering $5,000 to trade-up. Our 15&16 are still quiet. Gone through a lot of wheels, tho.

I have a 2015 MS70D with the black nose cone and it pretty much drives like new. On my car the Gen 2 seats were an option as was Dual Motor and Autopilot. I kept the MCU1 but Tesla did the chip upgrade for free. My screen is slightly slow but it's not bad. I wanted to keep FM radio and I think MCU2 did not keep that unless you pay for an upgrade. My Autopilot is from MobilEye and as far as I know it still uses the radar, but I haven't had the radar in the bumper clog up with snow or bugs or dirt since late in 2021. I only have one forward camera aside from the radar, so it might be risky to turn it off where the new cars have lot's of cameras. My car came with 230 miles of range and appears to have 212 miles now. All my charging is done at home aside from a rare day trip of overnight trip and an annual 5,000 mile June trip that is two weeks of Supercharger only PS I am at 107,000 miles and still hate the piano black trim in my car

What I really like about this generation Tesla Model S is a sunroof that opens. On a beautiful day, such a nice feeling to have a large sunroof that opens.
Thats one reason I am keeping mine, I always use the sunroof
I also have a 2017 S 100D. Currently 162,000 miles. It has no creaks or rattles either. Great car, and free supercharging.
All of them have free super chargers ?
Is the free charging associated with year and model or VIN?
Let me know if u want to sell your model s n if supercharging is transferable. Hmu
Is the mcu2 upgrade worth it?..still have Mcu 1 in my 2014
@@rayb1613 I think so. I was having trouble downloading the latest maps and my screen was leaking. So I decided it was time to upgrade. It does work well and even the reverse camera is much clearer. I’m using radio apps on my phone which works ok. I’ll see how that goes long term. It’s another £400+ to keep the radio
Hi there, I’m currently looking to buy one w free Supercharging, ima use it for Uber w 20k on the dash currently. Almost new, is the battery still ok after all those miles??? I plan to use it as a work horse 🐎

Thanks for making me feel even better about my new purchase! 2017 with only 52k miles.
Thank you for sharing this. I didn’t know that year had lifetime free supercharging
Look for owners with upper end 200,000 miles. Interested to hear ownership experience of tsla early adopter owners. Great data on video nonetheless.
@@Cornelius87 True, but the first model s was only 12 years ago, so at best someone could have an 11 year old ev, we wont know how theyll be after 30 years because they havent been around that long yet
Have '15 and '16 MS's. Uncanny how little work needed, beyond practice at door handles, rusting steering knuckles (both in north) and patience with "updates".
I love the steering wheel, the stalks, the display in front of the steering wheel, and the, what look like, manually adjustable vents.
it's the car of the future! haha
MCU2 upgrade made all the difference in the world to me. I missed a turn on a highway with the old one because it took so long to refresh itself.
I just bought a 12/16 P100D (so, basically a 2017) and I love it
That road trip was my first out of spec motoring experience.
That's awesome!
I love that a round steering wheel and stalks are worthy of being called out
I had the Michelin CROSS CLIMATE 2s on my 2015 Chevy Volt, I took a 15 - 20% range loss.
When did Tesla upgrade MCU
I’m looking into buying used Model S I like to pick best year
I agree, I used to own a 2017 Model S and I loved it.
Thanks. It would be really helpful to see a true cost of ownership. Every dollar spent.
Did the same MCU2 upgrade: the snappiness is very appreciated and it was also a requirement for the waypoint navigation which is very useful for me. Recommended!
I switched to crossclimate 2 on my hybrid and saw significant reduction in efficiency.
How do I check if my 2017 S90D has MCU2?
Our Mercedes S-Class has more rattles and creeks than the Plaid
fully agree. this is peak tesla
Any thoughts @outofspec
still driving my 11 year old 2012 Tesla Model S, 115,000 miles, about %10 battery degradation, just went on a 7,000 mile round trip across the country and back, free SuperCharging for life 😂✅ My Teslas name is “Tessie” 😁😊
Nice, driving for free cannot be beat. My daughter has 2013 version and free supcharging for life.
For a mid 2 second car I will take it and all it’s headaches. Looking at a 30k one today, cramming review videos so I know what to look for.
The best years for model s
I remember the video... great follow up
Sooooo I have a 4-5 month old Tesla Model Y Performance, and when going over uneven terrain such as turning into someone’s driveway that’s higher or lower than the road, so the whole car kinda twists like a twizzler, I hear creeks and basically just hear the car flexing, I kinda thought that was normal?
I have the little cousin, 2018 75, absolutely awesome car.
Yes I lost range with the cc2. I live in Chicago and love the winter performance
I love my 2013 with MCU2, 160,000 with original battery and no squeaks
My P85D was almost perfect. I loved the Recaro seats, and nappa leather everywhere. Even though my Plaid feels a little cheap in comparison, it's a lot smoother on the freeway and I really like the interior design - I just wish the interior were of better materials and put together better. I do miss the radar cruise control - it was nearly flawless.
I noticed the sunshades and cargo cover were pretty flimsy in the refresh. At least the passenger has power lumbar support.
I love these older ones, so much better than the new ones.
Do you find road trips a lot more comfortable in a Model S vs Model 3?
Great video looking at purchasing this same model for about $41,000 with 52,000 miles.
Kyle wrecked his Model S Plaid and now complains of rattles? 🤣

@@kens97sto171 usualy 4-6 a year. multi state. We live in ohio. Common trips are to TN,SC and FL. I was origionally looking at used 3s but figured the price difference with the tax credit is so minimal to have full warranty which is when I started looking at the ID4 as well. I think the slow support on the software side is what is pushing me away. The model 3 is more space than the leaf+ we currently use.
I recommend renting a Model 3 on Turo for a weekend road trip. See how you like it. Should be able to do the same for the ID.4
Dave really made out with the deal. Carmax really upheld the brand with that transaction.

Yes, I just took off the Michelin cross climate two off my Tesla I put on the original tires from discount tires that came with the Tesla from factory and I have the arrow wheels in my office and see how it went up about 20%
Cool review. I sometimes wonder if I should have looked for one of these instead of my model 3. I like the idea of a bigger more luxurious car for my long drives.
I just can't get over the screen orientation though. It doesn't compare to the current landscape view. Otherwise, I'd probably buy one.
Even though the car is much larger, the interior is not really that much larger for seating area. Trunk is bigger.
The Model 3 is probably quicker, and handles better. The S probably rides better with air suspension. You can get a nice Used Model 3 for the same price, get newer tech in the car.
Ultimately those are the reasons I got my ‘22 Model 3. Good car, but I always wonder…😂
Assuming this 2017 one charging slow at Super charger?
I have a 2016.5 (refresh) 75D and have loved it. I don't understand why Tesla won't give up on the stupid yoke without stalks and put more emphasis on interior materials and quality. I also prefer the opening moonroof that I have, versus the fixed glass roof on the new models. Such a shame to see them squander their lead.
They gave up on it , they offer a normal wheel and people who were forced to get it is offering a retrofit
I loved my 2017 blue model S 75. But the only way to get many new features was to trade in for a 2021 refresh. No rattles in mine.
Owned a 2015 model S and got to drive a 2017 Model S across Canada. It was an amazing road trip car. Now stuck with a Y and totally going to buy back a late 2017 to 2018 Model S 100D in a year or two with an mcu2.
What do you dislike about the Y that is better with the S? Genuinely curious, thanks
@@renuing general comfort, handling in icy conditions, air suspension. Having high use buttons. Better turn stock and having solid clicks. Everything just seemed more solid and better built for the long run.
Fun fact the 100D battery pack is cheaper than 85 and 90 packs if purchased brand new from Tesla.
Kyle,
How could you not mention the pano roof on that spec?? I love your work and this walk down MS memory lane is no exception. I recently got a 2018 100D w/ upgraded MCU & pano roof as 2018 was the last model year for that option.
Don't forget to lube that sunroof! Krytox on the rubber, white lithium on the metal to metal rails. -Doing every other year.
What are your opinions on a 2014 Tesla model s 60 rwd
Pre-M3 production, they took their time. IMO, Kyle, Free Unlimited Super Charging and, the downside, slow ~60-70KW charging are very characteristic of earlier 85s (maybe why you choose 100D ;). Few 2017/later cars received FUSC, making 100 KWh retro-fits in these earlier 85's (along with MCU2, etc) a consideration that has Tesla offering $5,000 to trade-up. Our 15&16 are still quiet. Gone through a lot of wheels, tho.
I have 3 electric cars at home my kids when we are about to choose what car we are going with they preferring modesl 2016 facelift S 90 D even those two cars are much younger
All my charging is done at home aside from a rare day trip of overnight trip and an annual 5,000 mile June trip that is two weeks of Supercharger only
PS I am at 107,000 miles and still hate the piano black trim in my car
What tires do you recomend for best range on the Model S? I respect your expert opinions!
2013 P85 driver here… you’re telling me the plaid instrument cluster doesn’t have widgets?!?!? Also, portrait screen for the win, think of it as two stacked landscape screens.
Your video of picking up this car was the first one I watched on your channel.
Is it supercharging capable?
So you can come to almost a complete stop with the regen, but have to apply brakes to stop 100%?
My P85 2014 is better built than my P100D late 2016, also i just hate the dual motor drive unit play between the motors when using the gas pedal on and off, just horrible to drive compared to the P85
RWD is more relaxing to drive
I have a 2017 60D, and have noticed no problem with the dual motor setup. It's very smooth.
Me too on 2014 P85 now 127,000 uk miles since new in 2015. Just so nice to drive and quick too 0-60 in 4 seconds and pin sharp steering. Ive driven all the Teslas get back in mine and the rest feel like the cheap seats. I specked sunroof delete so there is just a lightweight black panel up there.I have rare twin chargers so fast 22kWh A/C charge when available/needed. Took the plunge and spent $$ on MCU2 and 4x v2.5 door handles. Cant see ill ever get rid of my Pearl white / black 19" wheels free supercharging P85......... these RWDs MS are the well kept secret in the Tesla world.
So what did they trade in a model s for? Unless it was bought at auction which is unlikely
Didn’t Dave have one but sold it?
Had the cross climate 2’s on my eGolf. Lost maybe around 10% of the range so definitely more significant range loss than some other tyres.
Does it have free supercharging
