During the pandemic we worked from home and I realised how happy I am for that. To be able to spend time with my old kitties , to not waste 3h on the metro each day just to get home and have little time to do everything that needs to be done. WFH is really amazing. Even when we have so much work to do I can still put a load of clothes in my lunch , put them in the dryer on a short break, and between meetings, i can quickly feed the kitties and vacuum. When they asked us to come back to the office I declined . I found another amazing job , that does pay a little less . But the added benefit of being home and not having wasted time on the commute is priceless for me.

I was a facilities manager and the people management industry has known for years that letting people WFH on their own schedule leads to happier, more productive employees. Any employer who tells you otherwise is lying, and needing to justify their high corporate rent costs.

I was recently asked to take on more responsibility at work (I’m a teacher) I would be given no time and no extra money for doing it, so the decision to say NO was an easy one to make. To be honest, even if they had offended me incentives, I’d have turned them down. I don’t need the pressure.

Due to Covid, I lost my job of 31 years. It ended up being a great thing as the job changed over time and became very difficult and very stressful to keep up with the workload and I developed digestion and insomnia issues because of the stress. My husband is older than me and had already been retired so I decided to retire with him and I don’t regret it for a second and I’m so grateful I had the option. We are not rich so we live on a budget which is easy to stick to if you are a mindful consumer and don’t need to have the latest and greatest. We drive older cars and our house is not exactly updated to the latest interiors but we don’t mind :). Surprisingly, when I retired at 50, friends and family were always saying…” Don’t you get bored”? and to that I say NO. I can always find something to do. I work out, walk my dog, and there is always something to clean in the house. It was the best thing I could do for myself. Glad you are able to decrease stress as well in your daily life :)

My friend had IBS and found a university website that guided her through an elimination diet where she found her main trigger foods, which vary person to person (hers were onions, soft cheeses and a couple of other key ones). And she discovered that if she had low stress and good sleep, her trigger foods weren't as much of a trigger (this is also how migraines work). It's like IBS or migraine has a sensitivity capacity: bad nights sleep, fills cup to 1/4. Stressful week, adds 1/4. Eat greasy meal with onion, adds 1/2 BOOM .
But if you're well slept, low stress, and you eat the same meal (or a smaller portion), no reaction. Then you doubt it's a trigger. Which is why food triggers are hard to figure out.

At 65 I am now retired from my career as a registered nurse. It was a rewarding yet fast paced and stressful job. I actually retired 5 years ago and that was due to a severe injury. During my career I had to develop techniques to destress and self care. I learned if I said “no” it was okay. I learned to leave my work at the hospital and do little things for myself. Lunch with friends, a manicure or facial, perhaps a massage, listening to healing music, scented candles, yoga. Whatever I did it was something I loved. It made me calmer, happy and helped me to be an even better nurse. I would also share little self help tips with my patients. Self care and doing things for oneself isn’t being self centered, it is merely bringing you to a place of joy. That happiness is contagious. I too suffer from IBS and certainly wouldn’t wish that on anyone either. More easily managed with a healthy lifestyle. Thank you for another great Vlog.

Such a joy to see your new video on the YT's homepage! I'm confirming most of the habits you've talked about here, especially quitting the job and not setting an alarm. The same effects for me, life-changing. It's a controversial point though to talk about with others, for me, because I know that the majority of people don't have this opportunity and therefore they can't relate, and it might create a disconnect or resentment. Which I understand I don't have control over. It's a process to train my brain to accept for what it is. I thank you for voicing it out in such a cozy manner!❤

Enjoyed this one Benita. I'm glad your move is working out. The one best thing I can do for my wellbeing is have a life where I can wake naturally. I've done everything I can to arrange my circumstances so that I can sleep and wake on a regular pattern that suits my body without an alarm. It's more challenging when I have to travel or have other events happening that dictate when I need to wake, but those periods only confirm the benefits of my usual routine. It helps a lot during periods of insomnia to know that at least you can sleep later in the morning if you need to. It has always struck me as bizarre when people have moral positions on other people's sleep habits. The best thing any of us can do is know what our bodies and minds need, and supply that!

Hi Benita, I 've noticed the unusual desk stool that you have. Could you tell us more about it? Are there special benefits to the rocking motions? The side to side rocking is very unusual. Since everything you have seems to be well thought out, I'm curious to know how you chose this chair. Thank you for your lovely and inspiring videos!

I love my rocking chair! It adds movement to an otherwise still day at the desk and leaves my body less stiff when I've been working at my computer. It's this one muista.eu/?aff=5 (affiliate link)

That last shot 13:15 was so cinematic and relaxing. The weather in Central Europe thanks to climate change skips spring and autumn nowadays and it is still hot during the day (27°C in October!) and I can't wait until it finally gets crispier outside. Then I will too light my candles, make me a cup of tea and snuggle up in my living room. 🕯🤍

Tough time but helped me a lot to realize how much stuff I had that I didn't need, use or love!! Minimalism is a state of mind...we begin with clothes and than all the rest, food included 😊. Great video Benita, full of sound, practical suggestions. Since the end of covid restrictions, many of us hurtled back to filling our diaries with all the things we had been unable to do - not a really good move. Dear Benita,
I discovered your channel not so long ago and I really appreciate its inspiring content.
It's what inspired me to do a major clean-up and decluttering of my home over the summer and I have to admit that not only did I enjoy it, but since then I've felt more in harmony with myself... I've even started to create my own personal jungle to bring even more peace and zen to my home.
Since then my personal balance has greatly improved; thank you so much 😉
I'd like to know what brand your rocking chair is, because I find it both practical and beautiful.
Keep on inspiring our daily lives.
    Have a lovely day 😊
