It's funny how I bump into this song, one hour after leaving the hospital where my children were born, to say a last goodbye to my dying neighbour. Godspeed, Barbara.
I saw them in 1995... front row center... they were singing from a couch set up in the middle of the stage. It was simply amazing! An incredible experience!!!
im 29 my son is 4 and i hear him singing "like a rollin thunder chasing the wind" i win as a parent. thanks dad for introducing me to such a masterpiece
28 and now 57. It takes me back to a difficult time, yet this song came along like a beacon of light, that showed good things were still possible if such a song could be made.
My brother showed me this song back in the late 90s and this has stuck with me ever since. I took up the drums at 10 years old and this was one of the first songs I learned on the drums.
I was pregnant with my first child when this song came out. Its gorgeous. His voice is beautiful. But wow...it terrified me. The fear a pregnant mom has with their first child of dying during childbirth and never getting to look their new baby in the eyes is real.
That’s not exactly what the song means: The band dedicated this song to Barbara Lewis, one of their high school friends who was killed by a drunk driver around the time it was written. Her brother-in-law Cory told Songfacts the story: "The song's lyrics are mostly an analogy. Barb donated several organs, including her heart. She was close with Ed [lead singer Ed Kowalczyk] and the guys and died in a car collision with a fleeing armed robber. These lyrics are constantly misunderstood! Yes, Ed is speaking to the circle of life, but specifically to how Barb's life gave new life to many. The angel, the baby down the hall, the pale blue eyes (of Barb), the pain ("confusion")... the lyrics are wholly Ed's interpretation of his experience and perception of Barb's impact. Our family has become close with the most genuine and caring man who is still alive today (over 10 years later), who has Barb's heart beating in his chest! 'Lightning Crashes' literally lives on." Ed Kowalczyk doesn't like to talk about the meaning of this song, but he did explain its creation. "I wrote 'Lightning Crashes' on an acoustic guitar in my brother's bedroom shortly before I had moved out of my parents' house and gotten my first place of my own," he recalled to Spin magazine. The music video, which depicts one woman dying while another gives birth, has caused some confusion among fans. Kowalczyk explained: "While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. Nobody's dying in the act of childbirth, as some viewers think. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life."
@@adnaphow tragic its thread of origin… and how beautifully woven by Ed in song. Thank you for sharing this, I was in highschool when this came out and I was instantly drawn to Live’s sound. Now I love this song even more. May it bring comfort to all who love Barbara. She must be so proud of her friends.
It's funny how the volume drops at 2:54 until it goes back up at 3:14...I think that happens in the studio version - which I always wondered about - but it happens in this live version too. They must have a purpose for it.
Live had massive success in the nineties in Belgium and the Netherlands. They scored many hits and played the biggest festival stages. I have this version of the song on CD / FLAC file since 2 Meter Sessies released a best of album well over 20 years ago. It contains many great songs, including this one.
SAME HERE! Never heard this song before OA, and I'm ashamed to call myself a music fan for not knowing it! Cried like a baby and listened to every cover I could find. Such a good fucking song. So fucking good. And every single cover I've watched has poured in the emotion just like the original. Love it. Absolutely love it.
I love the way they build up this song to the ending....I used to think this song was so lame back in my hardcore headbanger days in the 90s but it was truly a great jam that I overlooked and never gave an ear to. This band is really good.
I hear ya , I was getting killed at patera shows back then, chains , Soundgarden got beat to death at Metallica show, now we on here listening to this , the mid life crisis has hit. LSD is what got me beat up . thought I was superman , turns out im not even a super hero , mom lied to me
I moved to ohio when I was 16 out east in perry county , 90 91,nothing but Hippies and I soon found out I really loved hippies, gave this hillbilly little piece of paper and said it eat and I did . see why they happy rite then and there . 4 miles from where I moved I hear chains is coming . that was crazy , ant seen LSD in 20 years but would say im to old now . but i know I would take it . not promoting drug use but just saying , some of us ant been the holler in along time and it shows . lol
I've loved this song since I was a child (90s). To this day, i still can't sing it without crying and my voice cracking lol. I know what it's about and it's just too much to even sing! I fucking love it.
I've always liked the song but got reacquainted with it after seeing Shauna beat the shit out of Lottie on Yellowjacket's 7th episode of Season 2 with the song playing in the background.

One of the best rock vocalists of the 90’s. Live was a truly underrated band.
THROWING COPPER IS AN ABSOLUTE TIMELESS MASTERPIECE
Still are
They’re still around.
Live were not underrated. They have also sold over 20 millions albums.
I agree 💯💯💯💯💯

You're making feel old realizing that you were born in the 90's 😂
I came back to feel it coming back again❤
Great song. Great band. Great memories.
Hi I recommend a song and video called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
This performance is the definition of singing
One of the very few songs that gets me in tears. Within 20 secs.
A true masterpiece...

@@redskies4530 Thnx but not my kind of music...😅
Wow, quiet and calm voice and then without warning it takes over the most powerful thing I have seen. And he doesn't even have to force it.
probably the best version of this song
I really had no idea that he could sing with such vocals and vocal control and range 😍 pretty damn awesome
Then you've obviously never listened to him sing before! Welcome to this band and enjoy it!!
This piece moves me in ways I don't fully understand. I really love !
Ed is such an excellent musician, absolutely top voice and top songwriter, deserves more cred amongst the other 90's legends
Bring the 90s back!
this whole album is a masterpiece
Throwing copper. Yes. Total banger
17 when I heard this the first time, now 45, still spectacular touching song. Where did time go?

The same for me.
What a song
You can tell he has passion for the song
Man, Chad Gracey is such a good drummer. This band is eternal for me (pre V), but CG's fill-ins and beats are just a notch above.
My brother showed me this song back in the late 90s and this has stuck with me ever since. I took up the drums at 10 years old and this was one of the first songs I learned on the drums.
This film is a treasure.
We are blessed to be able to enjoy this gorgeous song
This performance is out of this world! Amazing!

It can be pretty terrifying for a first time father, too. My wife was 37 when she our first kids, twin girls.

One of the best songs ❤ love this remake ❣️🪶🌺 the drumming reminds me of my dads 🥁 ing and the guitar wow 🤩 superstars right there chi miigwech 🎉
💚Best memory: listening to this treasure taking my son, Sean, to school.
I was 20. Englishman living in California skating with Ronnie B. Matt H. Jeremy W. All those guys. Best time to be alive.

I've been to York, Pennsylvania. Don't ever go there after a big snowfall. 😄
Such a great song and sung so much feeling. Really a true classic.

Chad Gracey reminds everyone that the drums are a musical instrument and not just something for keeping the beat. Beautiful work.
Perfect definition!
Epic performance
I've always wanted to see Live perform live
I was 20 and listening to this song with my mother in the car. Just Biblical 🙏. Kiss from switzerland 🇨🇭
Great stuff, with very good quality too!

One of my favorite songs. Now head over to the Cranberries 2metersessions if you haven't already. Thanks for releasing 2metersessions
No fanfare, politics or outlandishness.
A real band that just got classics done.
This is very emotional
Shivers down my spine...
Good song! And a great album!❤❤❤
Took my breath away...
There’s so much compression in his voice, it’s as if there’s three people on the mic 😮
The performance is flawless, but give props to the sound engineers for capturing it. So clean so crisp for the th time it was recorded!!!!!!!!
Love this version.
They over do this on the radio, great album for sure. Long live Live
Discovered them through The OA Part II. Criminally underrated band. This performance is stunning.
Right !!! Had me jamming in my jammies.
