💯 Please listen to the theme song for lost weebl made in like 2008 it's on TH-cam. I watched this show as it aired and I would play that intro sometimes.
I've literally came back to these like 10 times, fell asleep many times to this, and now became one of my favorite shows. I've watched them all. I remember when it was on TV, and I was just too young no time for this show lmao
@billiam I just got to the part of the video where Billiam discusses episode 15 of season 1 -- "Homecoming" -- and I slightly disagree with him that the viewer isn't given enough information to piece together Charlie's motivation for killing Ethan. Forgive the following essay, lol. I've written extensively on Lost as a scholar, so I tend to go on a length. I'm repeating something that another fan has been said, but the Charlie flashbacks in "Homecoming" seems reverse engineered to get to the concluding lines of the last flashback in the episode. Lucy, the girlfriend, asks Charlie why he took the job selling copiers for her dad, and he says: "I just wanted you to know I could take care of you." And Lucy says back: "You'll never take care of anyone" and slams the door in his face. The flashback is adding to the impression that Charlie wants to take care of someone in a romantic relationship, and that he sees doing so as a measure of his self-worth. In the earlier episode, "Raised by Another," after Charlie has helped Claire through some false labor pains, he says to her: "I told you I'd take care of you." And then they're both kidnapped by Ethan, and Charlie is hung from a tree -- he "fails" in taking care of Claire, like he failed in taking care of Lucy. So I think the show implies Charlie kills Ethan out of a need to show he can "protect" Claire (telling Jack afterwards "I wasn't going to let that animal anywhere near her again") in a way he didn't protect Lucy. Through the murder, he's attempting to reclaim a sense of his self-worth as a man. He also wants to prove his worth to Claire, who instead of finding him disturbing because he shot someone to death in front of her -- a early sign that the show would often write her character in broad strokes in service of others -- tells Charlie in the final scene of the episode that she wants to trust him. So, I think that's what the episode is going for, but the flashback largely feels superfluous. You don't need a whole story about Charlie conning Lucy and selling copiers to get across that he feels he’s failed at taking care of the women he loves, and that he wants to prove his worth to himself and Claire. I also agree with Billiam that killing Ethan off just after he's been captured is a ploy by the writers to avoid going into mythology they don't want to reveal and/or haven't worked out yet themselves. Also, later episodes don't really explore the ramifications of Charlie killing an “Other,” but that's a separate problem.

Over the last months discovering that I’m very into the “discussing in extreme detail whole seasons of shows in hours-long videos” genre of TH-cam videos made me so happy. So proud of all the work you and your friends put into this one and how much new things I learned about Lost. You’re amazing Billiam, the segments in the “florida jungles” were a chefs kiss. Showing you love and support, can’t wait for season 2!!!!

As a non-native english speaker this show will always have a special place in my heart. I was 11 when the show started, watched it in french translation before moving to Season 2 completely in english. This was my first tv show I followed in english. I can attribute a lot to this show for helping me understand english better in my teenage years.
@@patrickb1439 I'm no expert but I have been casually trying to just learn more Spanish lately and it's actually really fun. I would suggest watching TV or movies with the subtitled or lyrics. Josh Holloway isn't just stupid handsome, he's also really nice. I worked on the Colony pilot for three days as an intern. I had to lift this big wooden board, maybe 6x8 feet in size and I'm a small woman. I was able to, but it was difficult and awkward. And Josh had just stopped in to talk to some of the higher ups, saw me struggling and immediately ran over to help me lift it before going back to his conversation. That was my total interaction with the man, but it was just so striking considering I never liked Sawyer since I thought he was such an asshole. The power of acting.
@@josephfischer7623 it’s a strange cliche, but nearly every actor I know of who plays villains tend to be extremely kind (obviously that only applies to the ones I’ve heard backstage/off set stories of). It’s also often true for people involved in horror.
Well for a series casting an asshole no matter how good they are at acting like an asshole isn’t worth it. You spend hundreds of hours with them. And since recasting is always controversial, they gain some ludicrous on-set power.
Fun fact: when Evangeline Lilly took the role of Tauriel in the Hobbit her only demand was that she not end up in another *love triangle* because she hated doing that before and being used for it so much. Yeah. That didn't work out.
Im so pissed they did that to her and the character. The inclusion of another elf should've been used to expand on the elven culture of the forest kingdom. But no clearly a sloppy love triangle with a dwarf and the elf prince was the way to go.😒there is not enough palm for my face that i may have to make use of a desk instead.
@@iancanterbury2380 i mean i guess that's a valid way to look at it but she just shouldn't have had a role big enough for that to happen, the hobbit should've been 1 or 2 movies that told a faithful adaptation of the book instead of being the lifeless cgi riddled slog of a cashgrab we ultimately got.

When I was in treatment for 9 months after trying to commit suicide when I was 16, there was this guy. His name was Knox. And he breathed, ate, and slept Lost. He had seen the entire show through like 7 times, and like, he talked about how it saved his life and how when he didn’t have anyone else to turn to, he had Lost. He even tried to make a Lost watchclub within the dorm. When I graduated in August 2017, he was obviously still there. And well, 4 years later, I hope he’s still out there, watching Lost.
Since you don’t have access to morphine (or other strong Pain relief) on the island, the heroin could actually be very useful in the event of catastrophic injury or emergency surgery. Charlie should definitely not have just thrown it into the fire.
THANK YOU Same with throwing the Virgin Mary statues in the ocean. What a waste of medicine. I think a better redemption for Charlie would have been for him to go to Jack and say “there is a LOT of heroin on a plane in these statues and I think that could be useful as medicine. You should lock it with the guns. I can’t have access to it, I’m an addict.” Like, that would have been a big moment for Charlie. Giving up a huge stash of heroin FOR THE GOOD OF THE GROUP, showing true humility and honesty. And maybe show Charlie dealing with some guilt over the fact that Boon and the Marshall died in agony and he HAD HEROIN ON DAY ONE, and had he immediately given it to the doctor, those men didn’t need to suffer before death like they did. I’m kind of sad at how they handled Charlie. Like I’m glad he went out a hero, but I hated his later story arcs besides that

Imagine being Mr daily, 57 years old, on of your grand kids mentions something to you about a video on TH-cam about the old show Lost that you always talk about. So you sit down and find it, find that it's a 3 hour long video, and start to enjoy. The first fanfiction I ever wrote was a self-insert Lost fic, written on loose leaf paper when I was 12. My character was a werewolf that had to hide her secret from the rest of the cast throughout the show. I was insanely dedicated, it was over 40 pages long when I stopped and that only covered the first 2 seasons lol.

The actors who played Hugo, Jin-Soo, and John all later starred in the reboot of Hawaii Five-O together. Guess they really liked filming on islands. Edit: just learned Lost was filmed on Oahu, where Five-O was filmed, which makes this even funnier to me
The only mystery I want answered is why were there so many tarps for everyone to use from the wreckage/luggage? Were people packing tarps for the trip?
i think about that sort of stuff in survival shows all the time. A few other common weird things will be insane amounts of food on board (saw a plane crash story once where they supposedly lived for like a month off the food on a plane that crashed during a 4 hour flight with a few people on board so that plane must have had 50+ meals for each available seat), random things like tents and survival gear, or fuel aside from jet fuel. Also nobody in Hollywood seems to know that gas goes bad after a few years and if not stored correctly can easily become contaminated, so some old rusty gas cans that have been sitting in an abandoned shack is less than worthless since its useless AND toxic.
My only question is that at the time of the premiere of Sozin's Comet, LOST was in the middle of shooting the 5th season so there were no new episodes out. Were you in the middle of getting caught up?
@@greendaleforever I didn't watch the show so I don't know where they were at the time. All I know is I had family over and they wanted to watch it. Reruns perhaps, they might have got in late.

To me, the most interesting phenomenon related to Lost is the Nuzlocke challenge. It was originally called Pokémon Hard Mode and Nuzleaf John Locke was just one character who died relatively early on, but whenever people do their variants on it they keep the Locke part for some reason (Friendlocke, Speedlocke, etc.). People who have never seen Lost or heard of John Locke are still contributing to this show's legacy
Seeing a now prestige drama being advertised like a soap opera in those ABC ads is wild. No one really understood how to handle this show back then. Lost truly set the bar for what modern television could be.

All that past was fate moving him to where he was supposed to be, according to him. But his death 😢 he was so closed minded with his faith he honestly thought of himself as "God's(the island) chosen prophet", and let himself be deceived by what he wanted to believe 😢
@@hermitcard4494he was still chosen in some ways though. He was needed for the island to survive, Desmond would have shot himself and the key would never have been turned if it weren’t him. I want to say that watching this made me remember how much I love Hurley and how the show treated Hurley. I'm a big dude. A lot of shows and media nowadays go out of their way to respect women who are on the larger side. Which is nice. But this typically doesn't extend to the other side so much. But Lost usually treated Hurley with respect. But they didn't baby him. People would not treat him nicely all the time despite him being so nice. But Hurley wouldn't just take it and people would stand up for him. People talked to him like a person and what he thought and did mattered on the island.
Yeah, Hurley was a great character. At the very beginning of Lost, a lot of the characters seem like complete stereotypes. Jack, the selfless hero. Sawyer, the broody guy with a troubled past. And Hurley, the funny fat dude. But as the show starts to focus on the characters, we realize that the writers are just playing with these tropes, our impressions are superficial because we don't know these characters yet. Jack has a major dark side, Sawyer has a heart that he desperately tries to hide and Hurley has mental health issues. And of course later in the show Hurley becomes more and more important, he's not relegated to the side.
This was my first “grown up” show I truly enjoyed as a kid. I watched every new episode every week, and every rerun that would have the little commentary notes throughout the episode. I waited through the hiatus and was just happy to be watching it when it ended 😂 I love how crazy the show was. Great job Billiam! You legit help me remember parts of my life that I thought I forgot
As someone who has never watched lost this was incredibly entertaining, insightful and all around great content. Thank you for all your hard work Billiam and Crew.
The interviews with Damon Lindelof are incredibly charming, because *he* is incredibly charming, but it’s sad that we overlooked such awful mental health conditions in the past. I know he is making light of the situation himself, but I just feel like the reaction nowadays would be more outrage on his behalf that he is being subjected to the stress of it all. The fact that we gave JJ Abrams any credit, while he didn’t offer any help, is bs!!
You know, I used to disparage Damon quite a bit back in the day, but hearing what he went through, how he was basically given all these mysteries and questions and then basically just abandoned to try and answer them all on his own... Really changes my perspective. He was doing the best he could and taking all the blame while all the credit went to someone not even actively involved(who really deserved the blame).
I'd kill for Billiam and Jenny Nicholson to discuss something together whether they had differing opinions on the matter would be even more interesting 😂
Oh and the history of the Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Falcons multi-part docuseries that Secret Base put out. And just Jon Bois' stuff in general. This is just the age of long ass 2 - 8 hour video essays and whatnot and I'm so here for it
1:31:17 I think it's important to clarify here that Eucalyptus has exhibited some relieving effects for asthma, when dry evaporated or placed in warm water (not boiling). It could potentially cause asthma to worsen or cause an asthma attack if it was burnt/put in boiling water and you breathed in the smoke, but if you got oil out of it/rubbed leaves on your skin to leave the oils behind, it could be relieving to breathe. We use it here in Australia all the time for asthma, colds, flus, anytime you're struggling to breathe it helps clear out the airways. You just have to know how to use it, like with any remedy.
Yes smoke is always bad for your breathing. This is just like how marijuana or THC VAPOR, is great for asthma as it functions as a quick and strong bronchodilator (it opens up your tubes so to speak) and smoke, while still having a bronchodilation effect due to the cannabinoids, is still fucking dangerous bc it's smoke and asthma and those things don't mix.
this video was such a fuckin nostalgia trip. growing up, we went through a really rough period where my dad and i were very poor. he could barely make rent, and so obviously we couldn’t afford cable. the most we had was box sets of lost from the library back to back all day long. it was like one of the only things that made me genuinely happy. such a good show.

@@slevinchannel7589 il try (spoiler alert) The island is a magic island. Its got something to do with its position on the earth and magnetic poles as to why. The island has magic healing properties. At the very centre of the island is a cave with a river running backwards out of it. Golden light shines from the cave. The island needs an immortal protector, there can only be one and the protector must be pure of heart, but to become the new protector after the old one has been killed you must find this magic cave and drink water from it (also saying some old timey words) and the water makes you immortal, all knowing and basically god. (Fountain of youth type deal) but the one caveat is you can never ever leave the island. So the protector of the island is this woman and its like 1000BC, and she has two sons by immaculate conception. She called them Jacob and (we never learn the others name, but he becomes known as "the man in black") "The man in black" was her favourite son. He was smarter, stronger, sharper and more inquisitive, cunning etc than Jacob. At some time in the boys' youths, a shipwreck lands on the island and outsiders begin to settle. This frightens the woman (current protector of the island) and she forbids the boys from approaching the outsiders. Several years later as teenagers the boys wander far from their home and discover a small medieval town set up by these outsiders. The boys react in very different ways. Jacob is scared, doesn't want to approach and runs home to tell his mum what they found. The man in black is furious irate that his mother could tell him such lies about these dangerous people who clearly just want to survive, they laugh and sing and play with each other and he longs to join them, though he doesn't at first. Back at home it all boots off, and basically the man in black (still a young teenager) runs away to join the outsiders. Over the years he learns their ways, grows as one of them, develops a town, starts and family...all the time Jacob grows closer to his mother and becomes first in line to one day replace her as protector of the island. One day (now an adult) Jacob has an argument with his mother and runs away from the home. He comes across his brother who he hasn't seen in years, and the man in black tries to tempt him to come live in the town with him and the others. Jacob is afraid and returns to his mother and tells her what he found, again. Now the woman feels threatened by the outsiders and their attempt to pry her sons from her and she reacts. She slays them all and burns the town to the ground. Hurriedly she takes Jacob to the magic cave to turn him into a protector of the island because she knows now her son (man in black) will kill her and as a mother she couldn't bring herself to stop him. So Jacob gets turned into the new protector of the island and becomes all powerful, the man in black kills his mother in front of Jacob and throws himself into the cave in a desperate plea to gain more power than Jacob, and instead he gets turned into the smoke monster. Everything else that happens in this show, is a pointless reaction to these events as the two brothers forbidden by magical law to hurt each other, and forbidden to leave the island must spend eternity together. The man in black frequently causes nearby ships and planes to crash on the island at his will and does so seemingly for fun. These include a 14th century Spanish slave ship named the black rock, a French research boat, a sailing ship, a drug runner bi-plane etc survivors from these previous events litter the island. Sometime in WW2 a group of soldiers ate stationed on the island to recover am unexploded nuclear bomb. One of these soldiers by the name of James Witmore is manipulated buy the man in black and shown some of the magic of the island. Witmore then is groomed to lead a small cult of island survivors under the control of the man in black. He sets up a scientific research centre on the island known as the Dharma Innititive and is quickly exiled. Among other things mostly involving fertility studies, the scientists do testing on Polar Bears, hence the presence of Polar bears. The man in black spends a very long time manipulating and twisting as many people on the island as he can to kill Jacob. His ultimate goal is the kill Jacob and escape the island but he cannot do either nor even have a direct hand in the murder of Jacob..he must be killed by someone purely from their own free will, hence the long form manipulation of outsiders. Cut a very long story short he gets his wish, he manipulates one of the Dharma executives to kill Jacob and give him complete control on the island. But what he doesn't realise is that this also makes him mortal and Jack (yah the doctor) kills him. Then they make Hurley the new protector of the island and they all fuck off home (seriously) In the late seasons the island starts time travelling and they end up in the 1970s for a while. The season 5 finale is them blowing up the unexploded nuclear bomb (from before) to create a time paradox and hopefully return them to the correct timeline, but there is a risk it could split reality. The first episode of season six replays the events of the flight from season 1. But they all land, no crash, everyone gets out and goes about their day. Then we cut back to the main reality and we're back on the island, the plan worked etc etc but The entire way through season 6 we are seeing an alternate off island reality play out, so as viewers we are too assume they did split reality after all. In this alternate reality all the guys meet up with each other by pure chance then all start remembering the island one by one. The big last episode end of it all reveal FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW is this "alternate reality" is actually purgatory and these people all waited for each other before crossing the boarder into the afterlife because they're all happy together. The end.
@@dan5974 yeah that's basically all the magic stuff.. I forgot to mention, there is a an old well on the island that leads down to an underground cavern at the centre of the island. I can't believe this show is almost 20 years old already. I lived and breathed Lost when I was a teenager. Although I ended up extremely pissed off by the series ending, you are awakening some serious nostalgia in me and I cant help but remember how much I worshipped the writers. Lost truly was unique for its time.
Lol it's been 12 years since I watched Lost. Memories are a bit fuzzy. I was an extremely dedicated fan however, and mostly I remember disappointment in how the show ended. Also I seem to recall (spoiler alert) that the writers fervently denied that the island represented purgatory, as that was one of the first theories to be presented when the show started. They always made the fans feel like there was some grand plan. By the end of the series, guess what, the island was purgatory. Also it became obvious that the show runners were laying tracks in front of a speeding train and did not know where it was going. I did not like the feeling of being lied to. They built up so much lore and mystery and I felt at the time that most of it was wasted in the end. But, again, it's been 12 years since I watched the finale, so time has clouded my specific gripes about it. I still have a nostalgic fondness for Lost. The character development and suspenseful writing was and is still unmatched in television.
I like your "normal" length videos, and I like this video a lot, too. Whatever makes you feel better making, you really can't go wrong. Best of luck, you deserve the best
Remember the episode that was about the couple that got buried alive because of the spider bite that paralyzed them and made them seem dead and the episode was just so amazing how it explains what led up to it and what the person last words were and how it was miscommunicated and the ep ends with you knowing these people are buried alive. Ahhh omg when Charlie died I cried sooooo much. Desmond 😤 I had a mad crush on as a kid. Lost was the first show I watched every episode of and was completely obsessed with
I remember the episode, I actually hated it and thought it was stupid. Nikki and Paolo were annoying and the stupid scenes shoehorning them into past episodes as if they had always been there were tacky, the whole thing ended up being nothing but filler. Loved the show otherwise, John was my favorite character with Desmond in close 2nd
I haven't watched Lost since it originally aired, but I still remember the scene after Arzt blew up and Hurley tells Jack "You have some Arzt on you." My whole family loved that line so much
I mean this with not a single ounce of hyperbole, with only pure sincerity. Damn. Literally every video you make is better than the last. This is wonderful ❤️❤️❤️
I never finished this show, but for the first few seasons, it was a staple in my family. Wednesday nights were Lost nights, and we had a tradition of making grilled cheese sandwiches and soup and sitting down to watch the show. It was something we were all engaged with, and I really can't think of another piece of media that managed that before or since. It will always hold a special place in my heart for that reason alone. Watching through this video really did highlight the amazing acting that was on display and for what it's worth, season one was really great, with a ton of well-developed character exploration. I have to admit, I fell into the camp that believed the writers just made a mess of things because they didn't care or just didn't have a plan, but lo and behold, I'm not shocked at all now to learn that the reason this show became such a confused mess was because of executive fuckery.
For all of its highs and lows, Lost is still one of my favorite TV experiences I ever enjoyed with my family. We were all about the hype and theories, but it was also a legitimately well acted and produced show on top of that. In a pre-streaming era, it set the standards for what Peak TV in the third golden age eventually became
I'm not even into Lost, I just found this channel and this guy has so much charisma I'm now watching a 3 hour long video about a TV show I didn't watch. Legit this guy can probably talk about anything and I'll watch just for him
Remember, this came out long before streaming. So you actually had to wait an entire week before you could see the next episode. It was torture but honestly I miss it. That first season was peak TV, and I'm glad I could experience it.
no one ever talks about the wierd online ARG they made during the second season. there was like a fake website and if you put in fringe details about the show it would give cryptic dharma initiative lore.
@@yoboijom4367 I don't know. I don't remember what the website was. I remember the url flashed on the screen during a promotional while the show was airing and that took you to a website that was full of cryptology and island lore and shit about the dharma Initiative

I hope you go on to do more videos like this as I agree with you 100%. Another TV show with similar issues as Lost was Heroes from the same 2000's period of time. - Diverse Cast - Interconnected Stories - A Mystery (What is the Island?, Where are these Super Powers coming from?) - Both impacted by the time of the Writers Strike. - New Young Good Actors - A Basic Concept with engaging hooks to keep you coming back. (Normal People get Super Powers and Plane Crash Survivors on a Isolated Island) BUT priority, do your part 2 of Lost when you feel the passion to do so. I love your content and you're a really entertaining and fun TH-camr, it'd suck to lose your channel if you burn all your energy out on something you're not feeling up to. This is one of your best videos with great detail and I'd love to see its sequel and similar videos. Stay well, Mate!
Couldn't agree more. Both Lost and Heroes had a lot of potential, but for me, Heroes lost its way a lot quicker than Lost did. Lost kept my interest up to Season 4 before it started feeling a little drawn out, and even despite that, Season 5's timeline fuckery was still interesting. Season 2 of Heroes is where I started to fall off in terms of engagement in the story. After season 1's whole "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" plotline had ran it's course, Season 2 felt like the writers realised "Oh, fuck... I didn't think this far ahead! Now what?" I officially gave up on Heroes as Season 2 ended. The interest was gone for me, and I haven't gone back to it since (though I might try to rewatch the whole series at some point, if I feel motivated enough).
I can without exaggeration say that if I hadn't watched LOST when I was younger, I most likely wouldn't be married today. It's a story almost as long and complicated and filled with bizarre coincidences as much as the show itself, truly deserving of the Locke quote, "What if everything that's happened here, happened for a reason?".
Funny. I have the opposite story for you. Within a month of the Lost finale, my marriage ended. Might have been the one last thing tying us together at that point.
i immediately got goosebumps when i heard the score in the airport scenes with sun and jin. its so sad but at the same time optimistic as sun realizes that her husband is still deep down the man she truly loves
I wonder how many people were like me that were just dying to rewatch lost again while watching all of these wonderful videos recounting the best it has to offer beat by beat. I ended up appreciating these so much thank you!💜
Lost isn't a series I've actively thought about in years but this video brought all of it back to me in one fell swoop. Amazing work, the three hours flew right by!
When I saw 3 hours I was expecting a FULL loosened recap. But im so happy this was just season 1 and I get to hear more of billiams voice talking on lost.
I just finished the video and I *really* wish I had a giant tub of popcorn because this was quite the ride, and I've never seen much of the show. (Also, the one or two times you played that Bowser music makes me wanna play Mario 64 again.)
You should absolutely watch the show if serialized TV is your thing. It's really fantastic. The way the series slowly introduces the supernatural elements of the story reminds me a lot of Game Of Thrones -- you know it's there from the very first episodes but there are LOADS of unanswered questions that only get revealed during later seasons.
I've sat here for the past three hours watching this. I absolutely love this show and have always found it so hard to find people to talk with at length about it. Thank you for giving us all the chance to geek out about such a messy and fantastic TV show!
Billiam, I can't put my support of these long-format passion projects into sufficient words. Thanks for reminding me of the excitement I felt throughout Lost. Take all the time you need to cook up these precious videos. I, for one, will be making many returns. Your creativity and passion is awesome.
You killed it! You really captured the feeling of what it was like watching Lost when it first premiered and the weird attractiveness to all it's confusion. Plus I really enjoyed you giving us glimpses into however you've been doing. Take those breaks!
Give Fringe a shot. It has some of LOST's DNA. In the first episode they even use part of LOST's soundtrack. An Oceanic ticket makes an appearance. It develops into it's own by the 2nd season and became my favorite show. The chacter focus is mostly on the main 3 characters. It has a fairly coherent sci-fi narrative with some alternate universal shenanigans, great emotional beats and, character development. Every episode has a sort of (without spoiling) 'where's Waldo' sort of character that is relevant to the plot. It generally keeps it's narrative more organized and consistent than Lost (and I love Lost).
@@camerond.blackwell7493 Hahaha, very true. Fringe is vastly under appreciated in my opinion. The show is generally held in high regard but I mean in terms of exposure. Fringe actually did plan itself out before production. Unlike LOST which was required to stretch beyond its initial vision, Fringe's last season was effectively a rushed conclusion to its story that needed either a longer final season or one more season. Fringe was supposed to be canceled numerous times. Viewers actually played a part in allowing the story to finish. FOX executives openly liked the show too, but it wasn't inherently profitable. They basically left it to a Twitter campaign.
@@leandritodiaz1 Agreed. It was a satisfying conclusion, very messy, but had good closure for the characters. In this case it really was that they were given the heads up about cancelation so they needed to rush the final arc. I'm just happy it finished. Always a bummer when a show you invest in never gets a conclusion let alone one that is rushed or half-assed
Lost was the first show I ever fell in love with when I was a child. It showed me TV shows could have (mostly) amazing narratives that can spark genuine interests in what well happen in the plot in the next episode.
It was Heroes for me, but by season 3(season 2 was saved by the hype & writer's strike) I know what's up with the writers(they don't have ideas & are recycling plot points over & over each season).
My only real exposure to Lost before this was in the context of it being one half of the namesake of the Pokémon fanbase’s “Nuzlocke Challenge.” Looking forward to watching the video!
lost's first season hooked me like no other show. there was stuff i didn't like but the mystery and strong cast interactions really had me in its grip. i did eventually fall off it but watching this, i remembered a lot more than i thought i would. i agree though: lost being so flexible with direction and plot really did make it fun. the hard part is carrying that energy through while resolving things along the way in a satisfying manner (which i don't think it did) but it wouldn't have been so fantastic right out of the gate without it, either. as someone who loves to write, i feel like lost taught me a lot of good lessons in both positive and negative ways and the way some people act like its impact was only negative is very silly. anyway i watched all 3 hours and i will definitely do so many times in the future. this was amazing and i loved your enthusiasm and nuanced thoughts so far! it was really interesting.
For the good parts, it really shows how characters can drive a lot of plot. And that was done well. Yeah the resolutions and unoriginal ending is what, why that ending especially with the bringing up that what the hell is the island, the "mother" weird things to bring in late, and never answer. And purgatory? Why.
If you don't watch these videos with CC on, I suggest you do. In the scenes he's walking alone with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist, there is someone actually talking and it's not just vague whispering. I do appreciate content creators who go that extra step for people who use CC.
Never watched Lost, still watched the whole video because I'm curious, fascinated about how a show like this exists. Genuinely amazing vid Billiam, holy shit ♥
Not gonna lie, I've finally made it to the end and I have 2 takeaways. 1. I've never seen LOST, nor have I ever been interested, but this retrospective has put me through so many emotions, it makes me want to watch the next season. 2. But as interested as I am, your format is very entertaining so I will consume LOST media only in how you directly see fit.
Ew don't do that. Watch the show yourself and interpret it your own way. Don't let someone else interpret it for you. That'll ruin any experience. Come back to this after watching as a way to reflect.
As someone with concentration/focus issues, I genuinely wanna thank you for this for giving me a video I could actually sit down and watch for the entire 3 hours without getting bored or fidgety and wanting to get on something else! And I haven't even watched Lost!!!

I've literally came back to these like 10 times, fell asleep many times to this, and now became one of my favorite shows.
I've watched them all. I remember when it was on TV, and I was just too young no time for this show lmao
@billiam
I just got to the part of the video where Billiam discusses episode 15 of season 1 -- "Homecoming" -- and I slightly disagree with him that the viewer isn't given enough information to piece together Charlie's motivation for killing Ethan.

Same with throwing the Virgin Mary statues in the ocean. What a waste of medicine.
I think a better redemption for Charlie would have been for him to go to Jack and say “there is a LOT of heroin on a plane in these statues and I think that could be useful as medicine. You should lock it with the guns. I can’t have access to it, I’m an addict.”
Like, that would have been a big moment for Charlie.

The only mystery I want answered is why were there so many tarps for everyone to use from the wreckage/luggage? Were people packing tarps for the trip?
didn't you know planes are 90% tarp?
Yes
Maybe they planned on camping? All of them?
i think about that sort of stuff in survival shows all the time.
In season 2 they removed MANY of the tarps and you will notice peoples housing being made from island stuff instead

I buy fresh eucalyptus to put in my shower on a weekly/bi weekly pace. It’s quite nice 👌

AND?
Whats the Big Secret?
What is the Island?
Can someone tell me?
@MR. RICKLES FARTTENHOOS Lol. It isn't purgatory.
@@slevinchannel7589 il try (spoiler alert)
The island is a magic island.
She called them Jacob and (we never learn the others name, but he becomes known as "the man in black")
"The man in black" was her favourite son.
Then they make Hurley the new protector of the island and they all fuck off home (seriously)
In the late seasons the island starts time travelling and they end up in the 1970s for a while.
Then we cut back to the main reality and we're back on the island, the plan worked etc etc but
The entire way through season 6 we are seeing an alternate off island reality play out, so as viewers we are too assume they did split reality after all.
The end.
@@keytostart7053 What. The. Fuck.
@@dan5974 yeah that's basically all the magic stuff..
I forgot to mention, there is a an old well on the island that leads down to an underground cavern at the centre of the island. Half embedded into the cave wall is an old pirate ship like steering wheel and when you turn this wheel it makes the island move through time and space, that's how they end up time travelling back to the 1970s

@@kuhpunkt i thought the show's ending was rushed and left a lot of loose ends.
@@BattyKellen How was it rushed? What loose ends?

That tradition with the soup and stuff sounds so nice 🥺
For all of its highs and lows, Lost is still one of my favorite TV experiences I ever enjoyed with my family. We were all about the hype and theories, but it was also a legitimately well acted and produced show on top of that.
Now what?"
I officially gave up on Heroes as Season 2 ended. The interest was gone for me, and I haven't gone back to it since (though I might try to rewatch the whole series at some point, if I feel motivated enough).
Whoever did the sound editing for this and/or the second video deserves a raise. I love every sound effect picked.

They basically left it to a Twitter campaign.
the dropped the ball violently in the end. I remember beign super mad and disappointed. but did enjoy the show!
Huh, interesting.
"You didn't hear about the polar bear?" Absolutely iconic
'That's not Maggie. That's Kate. She's bamboozling you.' is so fucking funny, the delivery of that line is living rent free in my head XD
My only real exposure to Lost before this was in the context of it being one half of the namesake of the Pokémon fanbase’s “Nuzlocke Challenge.” Looking forward to watching the video!
wait what
Everything happens for a reason.
Please explain
Need to know how it relates to a nuzlocke
@Deso Lark but nuzlock is based off nuzleaf and the guy who originally started it lock.
lost's first season hooked me like no other show. there was stuff i didn't like but the mystery and strong cast interactions really had me in its grip. i did eventually fall off it but watching this, i remembered a lot more than i thought i would. i agree though: lost being so flexible with direction and plot really did make it fun. the hard part is carrying that energy through while resolving things along the way in a satisfying manner (which i don't think it did) but it wouldn't have been so fantastic right out of the gate without it, either. as someone who loves to write, i feel like lost taught me a lot of good lessons in both positive and negative ways and the way some people act like its impact was only negative is very silly.
anyway i watched all 3 hours and i will definitely do so many times in the future. this was amazing and i loved your enthusiasm and nuanced thoughts so far! it was really interesting.
For the good parts, it really shows how characters can drive a lot of plot. And that was done well.
Yeah the resolutions and unoriginal ending is what, why that ending especially with the bringing up that what the hell is the island, the "mother" weird things to bring in late, and never answer. And purgatory? Why.
@@marocat4749 The island isn't purgatory. They weren't dead the whole time. You've totally misunderstood the ending.
@@DrunkAtheist The ending still kinda did that thou , but in a sideway
@@ChArLie360115 no thanks

Watch the show, this retrospective only scratches the surface. The pilot episode alone will hook you. It’s insidious that way.
I really recommend you watch the whole show or at least each season before the next video
As someone with concentration/focus issues, I genuinely wanna thank you for this for giving me a video I could actually sit down and watch for the entire 3 hours without getting bored or fidgety and wanting to get on something else! And I haven't even watched Lost!!!
You just uploaded the last part which is 8 hours by itself ,i decided to rewatch the entire series so here i am 24+ hours of Lost
The Locke reveal was mind blowing at the time. One of the greatest episodes on TV ever.
The way he redid Jack's first speech kinda killed me lol
And that Burnout reference/quip was perfect
this was both UNHINGED and put together. i LOVE IT
