I love Josh Malihabadi Sahab because of this Ghazal, Dil Ki Choton Ne Kabhi, he has put the pain of a lover in exact words, that even the lover would never be able to express. This poetry is among those first read, when we developed the taste for Urdu Sher-o-Shayari.

soz-e-ġham de ke mujhe us ne ye irshād kiyā
jā tujhe kashmakash-e-dahr se āzād kiyā
vo kareñ bhī to kin alfāz meñ terā shikva
jin ko terī nigah-e-lutf ne barbād kiyā
dil kī choTon ne kabhī chain se rahne na diyā
jab chalī sard havā maiñ ne tujhe yaad kiyā
ai maiñ sau jaan se is tarz-e-takallum ke nisār
phir to farmā.iye kyā aap ne irshād kiyā
is kā ronā nahīñ kyuuñ tum ne kiyā dil barbād
is kā ġham hai ki bahut der meñ barbād kiyā
itnā mānūs huuñ fitrat se kalī jab chaTkī
jhuk ke maiñ ne ye kahā mujh se kuchh irshād kiyā
merī har saañs hai is baat kī shāhid ai maut
maiñ ne har lutf ke mauqe pe tujhe yaad kiyā
mujh ko to hosh nahīñ tum ko ḳhabar ho shāyad
log kahte haiñ ki tum ne mujhe barbād kiyā
kuchh nahīñ is ke sivā 'josh' harīfoñ kā kalām
vasl ne shaad kiyā hijr ne nāshād kiyā
