You can use lightweight or weighted but not explosive. The explosion doesn't scale with the freeze like the other knives do so it will never one shot a frozen enemy. Lightweight knives are the best in my opinion. They do 230 damage to the body while frozen, so it's a kill. You don't have to hit headshots, but if you do you get radiant for free, without any fragments. If you want a higher risk higher reward setup, you drop the radiant knives fragment so you have to hit headshots to get the knife back instantly. This frees up a fragment and loses the -10 discipline penalty, so you're potentially +20 stats. However, I want to guarantee my knife because I'm allowed to hit bodyshots and kill, so I use the fragment. Weighted knives serve the same purpose, but aren't as good. You have to sit in the open for longer during the animation to throw it, compared to getting it out of your hand instantly. The difference might not be huge in terms of how long it takes for the knife to reach the enemy, but it absolutely is huge in terms of how long you have to engage the same person. With a lightweight knife you have more time to swap to a swashbuckler weapon because the animation is shorter to get it out of your hand. You can be engaging someone instantly too, and not hoping you get killed before throwing the knife. Weighted knife does do enough damage to the body as well to get the kill while frozen, but in my experience and seeing other people do the strat with it, it seems too close. There's a tiny window where you still do increased damage after they unfreeze, to where you one shot them but they aren't frozen. A lot of kills seem to happen during that period of time, so it cuts it too close imo. If you strictly want to kill supers, then yeah weighted knife is the way to go. In my experience, athrys is amazing, but you don't need the freeze setup for one shot body knives, so just use a pulse rifle. Hope that answered your question along with anyone else's.

LMAO IM THE OPPOSITE I've been thinking about it. Sidearms are kind of a hybrid between a hand cannon and an SMG. Bursty like a hand cannon but require tracking like an SMG. Idk if it's because you need to track the opponent but the bullets aren't in extremely extremely tight intervals. Full auto is better with it than I expected though, and I was even very critical of it before I tried it. Maybe try full auto with it and see how it goes. If it doesn't work, whatever just turn it back off
@@Manstrual Yeah I'm definitely not used to the sidearm tracking. I've been using DMT almost exclusively since it came out years ago, and before that it was all HC's. I didn't use sidearms because I didn't like having to mash the mouse button, so full Auto makes them much more tolerable, but I still don't have the tracking down.

It's so weird because I'm freezing people but not using an ability to do so. Knives come back instantly. I'd agree it's a problem. Difference is that's I'm getting a kill for this to occur, unlike enhanced tripmines or storm grenades. Still a problem, I just so happen to abuse it.

@@Manstrual oh yeah cryo is an issue but it’s not a big enough issue for bungie to care. They’ve previously admitted they only balance based on usage rates. It’s like Rime Titan, Khepri hunter, or Tarrabah. very obviously not balanced but bungie can’t be bothered to deal with it unless trials usage gets above double digits
