I took Clifton Powell words to heart when I was a 9 year old watching this. Especially when he said he said that he spent the best years of his life in the penitentiary. I never wanted to experience that and at the age of 41 I never had to experience that. I love this show and the substance.

NBC at the time already had The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. What they had with that, Blossom, Seinfeld, Wings, and a season later, Friends, it was enough for them. They were just coming off of having several black sitcoms since The Cosby Show ended in '92. Roc didn't have the strong ratings that would attract NBC and also this would've been too real for the network to handle.

Underrated show. I honestly have not seen this episode since the 90’s. I was only 11 yrs old at the time. But, watching this now, I immediately remembered what it was the moment that school scene came on. The whole rest of the time I was nervously anticipating Terrence getting shot the final moment he walked out of Roc’s house. 30 years later, still sends chills. This show was ahead of its time through how it depicted what was really going on in these type of neighborhoods. That simply made it more relatable. Most black sitcoms wouldn’t portray the same to such an extent unless it was some type of “special episode.” The Roc Show was too real for the masses. Crazy how it still resonates with what’s happening today. People still need to wake up
I’m a Mexican American 🇺🇸 and I grew up watching the Roc Show and Funny enough Roc reminds me of my Father as my father was a garbage man and I became a garbage man and we never missed the show . I just want to say thank you the creators of this show we learned a lot because we were living the same thing except for the fact we are Mexicans we live very similar lives. So thank you Roc!!!
