LMAO - thought the same!! Cheers@@crankskinatra6038
Hey now, I don't want to be disappeared.
DEI FTW
Prob some of that inclusion over ability showing up.
No wonder Daniel Defense didn't want me to review one, What's For Dinner would have been entertaining.
I spoke with several people having the same issues. DD knows about it, but I don't think they are sure what is causing it.
Go buy one and do it anyway.
@@camojoe83 Despite our channel size and age, we still refuse financial interests from companies. That has kept us fair, but also keeps us poor.
Amen brother
Its not cebtral to these pistols, ive seen a small handful of rifles with ridiculous qc stuff. The dd fanbase is so loyal youll hardly ever hear when somethin fron dd doesnt work right. Gotta give it to em for loyalty i suppose.
Hate when companies send a gun back , no information on what they did . Makes me think they dont care enough
Just tell me what you did, even if it's nothing.
@@RattlesnakeDefense agreed
Sig is the worst I’ve ever delt with,
@buddysumner4022 I love Smith but I sent my m&p ar15 back for repair after 300 rds . Didn't hear back from them for 1 month ,I called and said waiting on a ffl to transfer the gun .I told them to send it back to me the return address. After waiting several more weeks received email stating new lower was needed. I finally received the gun ,no paperwork stated anything but new lower receiver. I called they refused to tell me anything that was done .
Sign of bad management
You can’t blame the ammo when the ammo doesn’t keyhole in other handguns.
Oh they can blame it, doesn't make it true.
Depends on grain, twist, barrel length. But it is likely the gun.
@@caleguenther8947We had limits on ammo i could buy a few years back. I would buy a couple boxes here and there to stock up. I dont normally run fiocchi ammo but had bought a half case or so spread out over a month. I ran into keyholing issues. I had purchased some other fiocchi ammo after pandemic passed and it seems to run fine. I was shooting the fiocchi out of my sig p365. I feel like i had gotten a bad batch of ammo made during the pandemic as the same brand seems to work fine with more recently purchased fiocchi ammo of the same weight and pistol.
3 years in development and they still shit the bed and they know it
“One bad gun means everything is bad” and more illogical nonsense at 11
What development? It’s a Hudson H9.
@@SlavGuns They completely redesigned it
Don't apologize for losing your temper, you're only human and for all of us to expect you to be perfect is insane. You spent at least $1300 on this hunk of metal and I too would expect flawless function.
The sigh and “f--, I’m not really sure what to do about this” sounds like you really didn’t want the drama of it still being an issue understandably.
You are spot on.
As someone who works in the firearms industry ( i am a machinist by trade ) where I work we recently had and issue with our broach and the the rifling had uneven rifling they lands and grooves were basically slight egg shaped and upon looking you could visually see from one side to another the rifling was shallow on one side of the barrel and the other was normal and this was at the end of the barrel. Im not saying this is your issue but for those who have a h9 disassemble the slide and put a light down the barrel and look down the rifling and see if the rifling is even as this was our issue with some of our glock pistol barrels and once the broach was replaced and fixture repaired no more issues. Just a thought / idea from our experience. Great video keep it up 👍
+1 on this as a fellow machinist who went to school for a Gun Smith certificate years ago ended up dabbling in this industry as well. What would make the most sense would be if the runout or concentricity of the whole barrel and the inner dimensions of the rifling were off enough where the naked eye couldn't tell but might be able to catch it with gauging (gauges that most likely don't exist to avoid this very problem).
The above is just a "what if" and worth checking, but yeah, if it's off so bad that the naked eye can see the I.D. features are off center, then we have ourselves a party.
Daniel Defense test procedure: Open nearest window, point gun outside, pull trigger, Yup it shoots. Return to owner.
in 40 years of shooting, I have had exactly ONE firearm keyhole, and that was a WWII Russian SVT 40 at 50 yards ! There is zero reason that a modern 9mm handgun, fed with the correct commercial ammo should EVER do this.
Thats what I said, I dont understand how everyone can think this is an ammo issue or there is any good reason for this to happen, and happen twice so far.
“But Daniel defense is top tier!!!!”
Yeah, when they make AR's they are above average.
@@Osprey1994 yeah, I’m not saying they aren’t good rifles. Every company no matter how good of a product they “usually” put out, has some new products with issues. Cmmg sold me a paperweight. My bcm bcg was out of spec, Wilson combat lower was garbage. Shit happens.
Garbage now...
I watched one of their rifles explode into 5 different pieces. This was at the factory. I recommend almost anyone else with the exception of DPMS. They have good barrels, though.
Garbage is a bit strong @@charlesg5085
I had the same problem with a RIA 10mm 1911. Sent it back and returned with a new barrel, still key holed. Sold it with a disclaimer that it key holed. replaced with a EAA Hunter in 10mm. WHAT A WONDERFUL GUN!
With the price of a EAA you could afford another barrel. Can’t with what he bought.
No need to apologize. You're filming live in segments. Had the same issues with Radical Firearms a year ago in my upload. The original intent was just to create a 59 second Short, but discovered the chamber was overbored when I filmed my test fire footage. Then had to deal with their terrible Customer Service. Only then did I get pissed off. Filmed over the course of weeks and uploaded after I gave up on them. And then their CEO called me at home.
Yea, you never get to pick the story, just tell the one that flops in front of you. Thank you.
Respect that you engage in DDs warranty process.
I would have asked for a replacement or cash back. Way too much money at stake to do this egg dance with the manufacturer. Seems the H9 is cursed ... On a side note, I wonder if Reeves is eating his shorts given that he praised the H9 over the moon 😂 Always good to bribe the most famous influencers.
Looking forward to the next chapter of this saga.
Thank you. I tried to be fair and understanding, but at some point, its just not working.
I will say that usually manufacturers don't allow refunds unless it's circumstances where the same gun keeps having problems or the replacements have issues. I had to send in an S&W M&P Sport II back like 4-5 times and the replacements all were bad until they finally sent me a check and refunded me since the cost of sending it back and forth and sending me lemons was getting to be more than the firearm was worth.
James wasn't bribed. Some people got to use working examples, but when a company scales up to full production, it isn't uncommon to see issues arise. The gun isn't ready for prime time.
It should be noted that anything that seems "revolutionary" or is a big iteration, will likely take a year to work the kinks out. If it's mostly cosmetic changes, then it's all good, but whether it's a gun, phone, or car... don't expect things to be 100% year 1, especially not within the first month or two of production.
I sent mine back to adjust trigger weigh even though is not an issue for me but since I had to wait for the optics plate I figured why not, anyhow, got it back and is good to go I never had an issue reaching them and got a step by step in the service (two steps actually) because I sent it on a Friday and I had it back by Wednesday have not had an issue with it

Same, I looked at it at the Shot Show as well and was like nah.
The measure of a company is not necessarily the fact that they have outliers, but how they handle them. With the warranty call line down, that does not bode well….
That was super close too. Cant believe it keyholed at that distance
FWIW, I sent a PSA 18” upper back because the gas tube was all over the place. I noticed it while cleaning it before I took it out. The gas key would hit it; you could see it and hear it make contact. The bolt would still close under its own weight, but it just wasn’t right.
The replaced the gas block and gas tube before test firing it.
Shit happens, and good customer service is invaluable.
That's wild. Our shop stopped selling PSA because their customer service was awful.

@@genevandenham7999I only bought one because of the lifetime warranty. kind of regret it. Mine didn’t work right out of the box
200 rounds in so far. Holding zero and zero malfunctions.
As someone that is just getting back into handguns I appreciate this video. I'm definitely someone that is cost conscious and apprehensive when I want to spend something on a super quality gun. To see the cost of the H9 as an option turns me off as a Beretta guy because I can just go get a Gucci Langdon Tactical for the same price and have had it handled by a quality manufacturer and gunsmith and feel completely confident in what I'm getting. Daniel defense really needs to keep that in mind.
Glad to help, thank you.
Excellent follow-up review! Looking forward to see the second review on and if they finally resolved the problem. Good luck 👊
That's sucks man, hopefully you get this resolved.
Daniel defense is nothing but trash now...
Never buy a first gen anything in the first year
Beta = problems!!! Lol
I hate it when these companies pull that shit of “the overwhelming majority of people that have our products have had no problems and they have been working fine”. That’s when you want to tell them “Well whooptie-fuckin-doo for them. I don’t give a rats ass about them and their product. I’m talking about the one that I have in my hand right now“. You know damn well that when they start off with that nonsense that they are just covering their ass and setting themselves up to not do a goddamn thing about the problems you’re having. And you’ll be stuck with it. Good luck. I hope it works out for you. But they’re just pulling the same old bullshit of soft soaping you to set you up for a letdown.
Right on.
@@RattlesnakeDefense Sorry if I seem so jaded and crass with my response. I’ve just been there too many times with different companies trying to defend their product when I have had a glaringly obvious issue. When they start off with something like “we take quality control seriously….blah blah blah” they are almost invariably setting themselves up to do nothing about it and make it seem like you don’t know what you’re doing. I hope I am wrong in this case and DD makes it right because you are not the only one that has had this problem.
It's crazy that gun is that expensive and has that problems. Thank you for and honest review. It's about time we get and honest review without it being brought.
Thanks
It's very eye opening all the glowing reviews it got from all the gun tubers. I guess everybody has a price.
Not giving my self any more credit than I need, but I thought that was very odd also. All of those videos went up at about the same time too.
This is what happens when people fan boy over companies. The quality goes way down when people's egos go up. Looks like that is happening at Daniel Defense.
Unacceptable. You can buy a Taurus for $250 and get better results. I filmed a video and had an opportunity to buy the H9. As long as you are shooting quality ammo, this gun should be able to fire whatever you put through it. I recently purchased a Smith and Wesson Shield Plus for $400, and it shoots absolutely anything that I put through it. It was a hard pass for me. And let me tell you, I was so excited about this one. Looking forward to your resolution.
Thank ya much
I have returned firearms to Springfield. SW and desert eagle. Desert eagle was superb. The others replied. There is nothing wrong with it. Have since learned there are employee problems
Daniel Defense is soooo overrated. I know a really good gunsmith here in my area who told me that their quality control has went to crap.
They want over $2000 for a DDM4, and the trigger on it is piss poor. A $2000 rifle, and they cant be bothered to put a decent trigger in it. A fricking $170 Timney drop in is better than their AR triggers. Build your own AR at half the price with good quality parts versus buying their stuff off the shelf.
Daniel Defense has seriously fallen from grace.
James, a similar event but worse, happened to me with Kimber. However, I enjoy your channel, the person you are, and all the content! 💪🇺🇸
Thanks to your “Rossi Tuffy Survival video”……….
I ordered that rifle! (For me) My wife and daughter claimed the 10/22 every time we go to the range 😂

Thanks man.
Any Company can build an AR where all the R&D has been done for the better part of a half century &the most you have to innovate is the handguard. Making your own designs is much harder. Trying to fix an already problematic design is another beast altogether
I hope they get it right this time. I know if I spent that much $$ it should be right from the start. Good luck and thanks for the update.
It’s good to see that angry James looks the same as he did last I seen him.
I would have to agree with a creator… This is a strange story… My Daniel defense H9 shoots spectacularly, does have lower, felt recoil with a super low bore axis, and is impressively comfortable to shoot. I have been waiting for three years for this weapon to come out, and I am not disappointed in the least. This video is definitely strange.
ive been having alot of qc problems the past few months with alot of bigger company's this seems like a common trend right now
As someone who works from the sales side, it has been going down hill since 2020. I have seen more errors in the last few years than the 15 before.
Been having hell with Colt. Cobra has broken twice in 5,000 rounds. Was at warranty for 20 business days because the trigger return spring broke - something they could’ve mailed to me and it would’ve taken 5 minutes to fix.
Not my cylinders are messed up, and they quoted 35 business days. No thanks, I’ll just sell it to someone else.
Should have put a mark on the barrel before sending it in
Damn, that's a good idea
Back in the '80's I bought a beautiful Walther PPK/S that over the course of 100 rounds went full-auto. Fun as all get out, but sent a letter to the importer in Alexandria, Va and received a very nice reply to please return the pistol. They sent me a new one. About five years ago I bought a Desert Eagle in .50AE for very cheap. It worked fine except some ammunition wouldn't return the slide to battery. Sent it to Magnum Research, they sent it back spotlessly clean, even changed the springs to brand new with a note they could not replicate my problem. I bought a case gage and found it was the Underwood ammunition wouldn't work at all in the chamber gage. Use every but Underwood, works flawlessly. Sometimes that's how it goes. As for the comments you get, remember Eisenhower wanted to know how smart Americans were and in the '50's commissioned at study on this only to find 50% were below average intelligence. Now it's probably 90%; welcome to the top 5% so just ignore the rest. Lose that piece of crap, get a Glock if you have to have a plastic gat or get a Les Baer 1911 and don't look back.
Good advice, thank you.
Pewview had the same issue. They changed the barrel and it worked fine. I hope you get yours fixed. I can feel how pissed you are. Hang in there.
thank ya
That gun doesn't do anything a cheap Dagger doesn't. Absolutely unacceptable for the price. You can buy HiPoint and not get keyholing. With the number of striker fired guns on the market right now at a third or quarter of the price, I can't believe a company with this name actually sent a gun back with the same major problem lol.
Sorry DD is solid don’t get me wrong.. but you are just buying the name. There weapons are just as good as lower priced ones. I have a BCM rifle and it’s about half the price of a DD and some people say there better. Paying that much for a hand gun that doesn’t bring anything to the table other haven’t.. can’t do it captain
There's not really any other option for a striker fired 1911 grip that's double stacked though. I love a 1911 grip and have been waiting for someone to make a double stack fit. So that's the draw for me. But with all the reviews this has been a bad release and they needed another year to get everything ready to go
They admitted that they are learning handguns with this release, I think it will work out given enough time and testing.
I appreciate the raw emotions, what a fkn pain in the ass.
I would be pissed... for this amount of money there are alot of GREAT GUNS to pick from..
Don't apologize for emotion. Someone fucked up cutting barrel stock. No doubt lots of barrels were made from it. You might just be the only person putting it on paper and not blaming yourself or ammo. Bad machining and qc.
I have one, 400 rounds thru it, so far no issues no key-holing
All these problems is why I returned mine
Did DD just refund you? I’m waiting on getting mine back from warranty and if the issue persists i’m just gonna go that route.
I had an issue with the CZP07 smacking my face with ejecting shells. Communication was almost all robo. They said they could not "re-create the said issue", sent it back, and it still does the same thing with all different types of ammo. My point is that it seems like all companies once big enough don't really care to make it right with every single product they've sold due to sales volume and overall great operating statistics. I still love my P09 and Scorpion but wouldn't risk getting another pistol from them now.
Seems like a rifling specs in the barrel. Defective barrels.
And people hate on PSA and Taurus lol. Taurus 1911 stainless was better built and shot better than my brothers Kimber, he paid 1600 for it lmao. Also neither Taurus nor Palmetto guns shoot when you drop them, unlike SIG 🤣🤣🤣
I had the same issue. Instead of sending mine in, I requested they send me a new barrel, striker and guide rod to expedite the process.
I’m 550 rounds in with no issues and zero keyholing. This could change but so far it’s been great.
And I must say, I was fucking LIVID when I first got mine. So I’m very much so still on the fence and not a believer.
How did you get them to send a new barrel & guide rod? Did they charge you? I’d be interested in that myself just in case I have the same issue.

I have fired different calibers experiencing the same problem most likely it's probably the bullets. Hope you get it resolved God bless you have a great day
Since 2 Federal ammos keyholed and the rest didn’t, it’s very likely ammo related. it looks to be a case of tolerance stacking, in which federal bullets are just slightly undersized and your bore is at the upper end of its tolerance. When you run them both together, you have a slightly smaller bullet going down a slightly large bore and you get keyholing. Both could be within spec, but the ammo is on the small end of its spec, and the bore is on the large end of its spec. Every firearm has ammo that it shoots better than others. Usually it’s not this extreme to cause keyholing, but anyone who has run different ammos through the same gun knows that some are more accurate than others and most firearms do have a “favorite” ammo that they shoot very well.
Also DD might have some Federal ammo at their shop that is from a different batch, and they might not be able to replicate the problem.
It sucks for such an expensive handgun, but I would just find ammo that works well with that pistol, and stick with it. Or you could delete these videos, sell the handgun, and if the buyer wants to test fire it, make sure they don’t use Federal. 😂
You have no idea what you’re talking about if you believe this is an ammo issue. This is a ton of pseudo intellectual nonsense
@@nfaisnfgay It only keyholes with Federal ammo. The solution is…don’t shoot it with Federal ammo.
@nfaisnfgay it's only happening with federal ammo that usually means it ammo. Op is right this could be tolerance stacking issue. We won't really know until part 3. But it's sound logic if it only happens with Federal then it's probably Federal ammos fault. Just like how you diagnose anything else if it only happens with that one thing then that one thing is usually the issue. That being said that doesn't mean DD is not to blame the tolerance shouldn't be that loose.
@@LavitosExodius this MF thinks tolerance stacking is “intellectual pseudo science.”
🤣
@rattlesnake the keyhole is all on the barrel
1. The barrel twist is almost nonexistent, looks like the rifling is just a polish
2. The barrel diameter is slightly too big
They have to make new barrels
Also messages dd myself a Mr smith told me the h9 likes 147 grains. And you say they say 115?
They are fn us. I had to message them about my missing optic plate code (they fixed that for me I should see it in a few weeks) but that’s when I asked about keyholing and he told me no one’s having those problems either soooo….. I’m afraid to send mine in just to get back a oversized barrel
They clearly made a run of bad barrels. If a particular ammo is working with all the other barrels on the market, and ISN'T working in theirs, something is up on their end.
I have quite a few pistols and every one of them shoots any ammo made for it without a single keyhole. No brand should keyhole even if they are slightly undersized.
I agree.
It's too late for this advice that is: buying a 1st generation handgun from a gun company that never made a handgun before is never a good idea. The buyer will be a beta customer. In other words the company is just using the initial buyers to find all the problems and improvements so they can work on Gen 2. Of course the beta buyers will not be paid or reimburst for their efforts and they will get stuck with a handgun that doesn't work properly. This is not limited to handguns, one should always wait a few months before buying any new production firearm.
Thanks for documenting this. I was thinking about getting one but I wanted to see what kind of experience others were getting first.
They did the same with mine gave me a new barrel still same result gunshop I got it from is on point they taking it back getting me a prodigy
Simple problem - barrel diameter is over sized. The reason some bullets keyed and others didn’t is just variations in bullet diameter and bullet expansion - I.e. some bullets were a bit larger and therefore had better engagement with the lands. Manufacturing cause is likely bad tooling - perhaps cheap offshore reamers that were out of spec - as in - larger diameter than spec’d. If hammer forged - then an oversized mandrel.
A small batch of the Daniel H9s got by QC which had an out-of-spec chamber polishing issue. This is what has caused feeding issues. They are aware of this issue and have the fix. It may also have an impact of the gun you are shooting. I can tell you that my Daniel H9 runs beautifully. With this said, send it back to Daniel for replacement/repair again. It's a new entry, and few things in life that are new entry will not give you aches and pains.
A few years ago I was at a range where a guy with a brand new DD ar was having all kinds of problems with it. Don't know if he ever got it resolved but he spent $$$$ on that thing for it to perform the way it did. Good luck bro.
News of the problems with this pistol have spread and for a lot of people the jury is still out on whether or not this is a good pistol especially considering the price. From what you said about the social media person reaching out to you it seems to me that DD cares more about perception than the functionality of their product. Granted a poor perception will kill the sales and tank the pistol just like the original Hudson. Seems like a cool pistol but for the price there are lots of cool pistols one could buy instead and dozens of them function flawlessly. I think DD has a dud on it's hands and they cannot scramble fast enough to fix it and get the word out. Looking forward to round 3 of this story.
My question is how would it be handled if I didn't have access to a social media guy.
In 2011 I bought my first AR. It was a Bushmaster. While running the first mag, it fed a live round and locked up. Trigger wouldn't depress and I couldn't get the bolt to come back. I had to mortar the gun for 10 minutes to clear the round. Brought it back to Durham's where I bought it. They sent it back to Bushmaster under warranty. Two weeks later, still no rifle. I called Bushmaster. No answer. I emailed them. No answer. Dunham's called me a week later to say my rifle was back. Went to get it on my way to the range. All the paperwork said was 'rings'. Got to the range and 3 ROUNDS IN same thing. I spent 45 minutes trying to get the live round out. Would not budge. I was so pissed I went right back to Dunham's and explained I was done with the rifle and wanted my money back. Oh, and there is a live round in it. They called their GM at home and talked to him. The counter guy comes back and says their policy is not to take guns back BUT since the rifle was so jacked they would make an exception. I was so done with Bushmaster and still am. Fuck them.
That’s sad man. I fell like there rifles gone down hill as well, a lot of money for par performance
I have a couple videos on this matter, but with the Sig P322. When they sent it back to me for the 3rd time, I kinda lost my poop on video myself when the first round fired keyholed and 20 rounds later I had lead puking out the front of the barrel lol. They told me it's the nature of .22lr LOL, OKAY. I had a Glock that exploded the bullets before they reached the target or keyholed. I didn't bother with repair on that one, I just plain ol' HATE Glocks LOL. In my experience, Either keep being their ginny pig and keep testing whatever they send back, or sell it and move to a different model. DD is a stand up company and they will eventually work a good deal out with you, I truly believe that. I feel your pain though!
They’re not going to help you until you stop calling them “ Daniel’s Defense”
You are most likely correct

Lol you question DD’s QC issues and recommend BCM. Lol. Lmfao. Lawl even.
I thought they spent 4 years revising and improving ???
It'd be interesting to see some slow motion footage, see the initial exit from the barrel.
It seems like buying a new line of handgun is never a good idea unless it's a Glock because Glock doesn't change shit lmao. I know SIG had some serious issues with the P320s and the P365s when they first released. It appears that the first customers are the beta testers.
You forget the early Gen 4 Glock's, or you are really young.
Glock has had problems, they just fix them quickly.
As for the P365, it was a brand new design, and within about 8 months, they were putting out consistently good guns. Now, in all fairness, there are really early examples of the P365 going 10k+ without a breakage or a failure. My most recent P365XL build is at around 2k+ over the past 6 months with 0 failures, even during the first 500rds where I just shot mag after mag hoping it ran well so I could carry the new slide.

I have not.
Film the keyhole on slow-motion! It’s weird that big companies like DD wouldn’t go the extra mile and record the bullet leaving and the impact as evidence of performance.
The social media person has to reply instead of the customer service warranty number that doesn't take messages. Manufacturers are just not caring anymore

That's an awful expensive gun to be having a key hole issue with!
They are replacing all barrels in the h9s. I got my email two weeks ago. It appears they are stepping up. Patience.
I have only ever owned one gun that had a major issue that made it unusable, an FN 545. The magazine catch spring was faulty, but a replacement gun from the store I bought it from fixed the problem and I have not seen the issue repeat itself. Its not good when such a major issues isn’t resolved by a repair or replacement.
I had an FN five seven that would eat magazines. All 3 mags were torn up where the mag button would click in. Sent it in and it still chewed up magazines.
@@Localjadedealer how often? Mags are consumables and aren’t the 5.7 mags plastic? I think there are definitely quality control issues at FN but the mags might be to blame as well.
@@knifetech101 The first 3 were done over the span of 3-4 months. By the time I sent it in to FN one of them wouldn’t stay in when shooting. After I got it back, I ran just one mag in and out for about a week, which chewed it up pretty good. Sold it to friend who knew of the issues. FN had replaced a bunch of parts which led me to believe the actual frame was warped or lacking material in the magazine release areas which caused the magazine release to gouge the mags
@@Localjadedealer crazy… my loaded mags were self ejecting themselves after every 15-30 rounds. The entire magazine catch assembly and spring that holds it in would come out during recoil.

That asked, but it has to be a barrel problem, why wouldn’t they put a new barrel in it the first time. You don’t want an unhappy customer.
I guess just “miking” it wouldn’t give us the answer us the entire answer. It could also be a rifling issue.
So sorry for your problems. Good money, to have it tied up shipping back and forth.
I had an 1984 Pontiac Trans Am that would get vapor lock in the summer. It was the most expensive T/A sold at that dealer that year. After 3 summers, I gave up and sold it. I remember talking on the phone with their customer service and they told me, “It’s not like we’re going to buy it back from you!” I was so pissed. I told the lady, easy for you to say since it isn’t your money. But I told them, they lost a customer and they will never see a penny of mine again. She said, “Well that’s the way you feel.”
I wished I could have punched her through the phone.
Doesn't matter what ammo. Never had an issue with federal ammo.
I want an h9 and I'm glad you made these videos before I spent that much on a pistol. I'll will definitely wait eagerly until a gen 2 or dd publicly says they have fixed the issue. Idk. Appreciate the content though!
Daniel bought a design from a bankrupt company, raised the price, slapped DD on the side and banked on their reputation. Looks like both are heading toward the bin?
I wanted this gun but as soon as I felt the trigger I was out. What a POS.
I'd be pissed from the start if it keyholed
Raise your hand if you're surprised by the turn-out of these events.
DD made these barrels on a worn rotary hammer and didn't notice untill they could visually see the things flopping on the mandrel while being made. That's my guess. The barrels that were at the beginning of the failure got installed and shipped because they're lazy and can't use a star gauge to check their "assumed-to-be-perfect" bores once in a while.
If you want a cool pistol made by a good AR company, I'm sure LMT will oblige eventually.
I've shot quite a bit of Syn-150 & 115 in various guns and have never experienced any keyhole issues.
Daniel Defense is trash. I bought a DDM4V9 and the only thing worth a shit is the barrel. But the barrel even if it is CHF isn't worth a third of what Daniel Defense charges for their rifles. Which most of it is Mil Spec. There's nothing innovative on their rifles. Not enough to ask the prices they do for them. I will never buy anything Daniel Defense. Plenty of other companies out there offering better stuff. People think just because they have a Military Contract and alot of their stuff can be seen in movies...that it must be good. Nope. For the amount I paid for that piece of shit DDM4V9 I could've built 4 to 5 rifles. Have you guys ever seen Tactical Toolbox breakdown of is a Daniel Defense rifle worth the price? You should...because everything he said is true.
Sounds and looks like an ammo problem not a gun problem. My 9mm ruger pc carbine does that with federal syntac blues but not the reds or regular ball. My 1911 .45acp does it with Hornady ammo. Ammo is weird lately.
Don’t worry about the “bad” words! My Key Hole 9 KH9 does the same thing!
Man there was a batch of the federal syntech 147 grains that were doing the same thing you are experiencing with the DD. My partner first noticed it while training out at CSAT. He contacted Federal and is still waiting to hear back from them. It did it on 2 different guns and it was all ammo from the same lot. I'll see if I can get the lot number from him.
You should send them a link to the GB auction for your "LNIB DD parts lot" after you press a nail punch into the bore with a vise so it can't be used anymore.
Just get a PSA and be done with it.
Good luck with that. Their customer service sucks
I have fired federal red box 115 grain 9mm from Astra, several rugers, several walthers, etc and no keyhole issues, you might want to fire bullets into a media that you can recover bullets with minimum damage and look at the refiling marks., my icon is a federal 115 grain fired and captured, has very solid rifling marks.
I have some federal ammo nearly blow primers out they were totally flattened sure sign of over pressure, a few rounds out of 1 box, points to a QC issue
Check out the DD video before this one
Even the best company in the world can make a lemon sometimes; it happens. But the way you handle that when it reaches a customer is what makes or breaks your customer loyalty. Stories like this really sour people on the brand, whether it's guns, toaster ovens or any other item. They should've handled this way better.
I just watched a clip on God Family and guns about the Daniel Defense H9. Then I saw this; I think I'll put this purchase off for awhile..
One thing i will say is, have a good relationship with your pocal gunsmith. Its always worth it.
I may have been lucky. Not being a fanboy or to downplay your issues with keyholing (seeing a lot of people with that issue), but have put a couple thousand rounds through mine, and I get consistent pinholes at up to 15 yards (only because I don’t practice much outside of that). Mine has run flawlessly after the first 100 rounds and is fairly accurate at 10-15. Still, should be more consistent and hopefully their customer service gets its quality back after dealing with this messy release.
I used to work at DD back in 2015. I'll never buy DD.
Idk about this one man. The fact that they didn't send a report with what if anything they did to fix it is questionable. I feel like this was a cursed gun from the beginning and that it's going to cost DD a lot of time and money addressing the issues people are having (more so than they already spent recreating it) i hope they're able to make this right.
I put a comment in your other video. I believe the issue could be that the barrel bore is oversized. The reason I say this because some Hudson H9 had oversized bores. If Daniel defense is using the same suppliers for barrels and other parts this could be the issue here to. The groove to groove measurement should be .355. And the land to land ( rifling to rifling ) should be .346. Please measure yours and comment back to me as I was planning on getting one of the DDH9. If I am right and you have an over bore please let me know and give me a shout out in the future.
After seeing your first video I emailed DD AND I told them the same thing I told you and another TH-camr having the same issue. All I got was a shot and sweet “thanks for the input”
I measured my hudson and it was in speck and I will be doing a video shooting groups with it. Thankfully I got a good one.
I truly want to get a DDh9 because it is an awesome firearm. But if I am going to pay $1300 and then share it & recommend it with hundreds of thousands of viewers I expect it to be perfect & reliable and accurate.
I mean my echelon was under 600$ and you can beat the crap out of it and it still shoots reliably and on the mark.
Also another customer has found that the guide rod & spring assembly is walking out of position wile racking and shooting and causing feeding issues & going into battery issues. I own many DD rifles and love them and trust my life and others to them and I truly want to same for the DDH9.
Look up my channel and in the about & description sections should be my email address if you would like to reach out and talk about this.
DD currently has the pistol, I will get measurements when I get it back, but l assume it will be a new barrel. They mentioned that they have elongated the rifling from the original design and that is what they think is causing the stability issues. I am glad they would talk to me, but I hoped for a better statement. I will be in touch when I receive the pistol back.
Supposedly DD makes their stuff in house. This is an in-house QC failure.
@@RattlesnakeDefense"Elongated" the rifling? Are they talking about the twist rate? 1:10 twist rate is pretty standard for 9mm handguns and I can't imagine why they'd go for something else, or why if they did it would only affect Federal ammo.
I am not sure. 1:10 is spec for both. Unless he was talking about bore diameter. I can't emphasize this enough, they were aware. This is not a one off failure.
Have only shot winchester white box and federal 124g hp ammo ans no issues with either. Got some aac 124g on the way to try
I did notice that rounds fit pretty loose in the chamber. I removed the barrel and dropped one in and its got more wiggle than my sig 365xl and the staccato had almost no wiggle. I dont know how this might impact performance but its worth noting
I do not think the vast majority are wrong, but it seems that the bore is a bit oversized and doesn't leave any room for any mistakes. DD received the pistol today, so time will tell.
I just got my 80x cheetah back from beretta , the paper work said nothing about what was done. The next day at the range the gun was still malfunctioning .....
The curse of Hudson! Crazy. Did you resolve this with DD?
