- The Hudson H9 has returned. In this episode of TFBTV, @JamesReeves brings you exclusive information about the development of the Daniel H9 pistol. While the Daniel H9 looks just like the Hudson H9, the Daniel Defense version of this gun has been drastically re-engineered to outperform the original design. It will be released at SHOT Show 2024 and James and the TFBTV crew will bring you more details from the show.

The price isn't some big secret. Daniel Defense has it listed at $1,299.00 on their site.
Seems steep because the market is so competitive, but honestly that's not bad.
@@johnsanko4136 If you are seriously considering $1300 for a pistol I seriously question your financial literacy
@@UrsineArms "the hipoint is good enough" guy is here.
@@FireCampSecurityI like how your brain works.. “this guy says 1300 is too much for a pistol, so he’s obviously a 200 dollar hi point guy”
Like you’re purposely forgetting that guns like Canik, glock, s&w, sig, etc, etc exist
@@UrsineArms some people spend money on cars they don't need 🤷🏼♂️
It seems like a very worthwhile design, and reinforces what Ian McCollum has so often said, that designing a production gun is REALLY hard
I was just thinking to myself that I thought I ever wanted to start a production gun, I would ask Ian McCollum what principles successful design often focused on
Announcing a better version of your product when you’ve barely started selling your first product really doesn’t help as well.
Consensus seems to be that was what really did them in.
@@user-wd8qm5hl8l Yep, that's what did it.
They still had tons of their First Gen guns in stock when they announced their new, lighter version. After that no one wanted the original guns anymore. That mans they spent a shit load of money on materials only to see no return and that lead to bankruptcy.
@@ThomasHendrickson Has a a video on the subject.
Handguns with unique operating mechanisms under $1500 is a magical category. Chiappa Rhino, Bond Arms Bullpup, and now the Danial Defense H9. I want them all.
It's just short recoil locked breech like most other striker fired semi autos. If it was gas gas delayed or something I'd be inclined to agree.
You need to change that 1500 to 1,000. Then your statement is true. 💪
@@circuskills1928 You already know what makes it's different.
Cz70….
Grand Powers are sub-400
Glad go see the H9 design concept isn't completely dead, because I think it has some unique traits worth keeping around. I trust DD to not make garbage, but this is most likely gonna cost an arm and a leg.
Its traits may seem good only before you actually look at bore axis in comparison to other guns. Glock has lower bore axis for example
$1300 its on the website
MSRP is $1299.
I don’t really see what unique traits this has worth keeping around though. Just seems like an all metal version of the steyr L/M/S 9 with a 1911 style trigger to me.
@@gn4128no it doesn’t, there’s pictures online comparing a gen 4 Glock 19 and a Glock 43x to the new H9 and it’s got a smaller bore axis than both of them.
@@Andrew_182seemingly DD is trying to hedge its bets that people will want a striker-fired 1911 (what Hudson was trying to do) is 9mm and in a compact size with a low bore-axis. I mean if they released a super compact one in .30 super carry I might actually pick one up despite the price since right now S&W has that cornered.
Puts it in line with the Platypus. Interesting. As am engineer the H9 was an interesting concept. Glad they picked it up. Tolerance stacking is a big issue in autos. Glad to see gun manufacturers look at them. And using 50 proof loads is huge. Nice
The part where they fired a round over a lodged bullet in the bore impressed me. Two bullets? And only get barrel bulge? Squib, squib, BOOM! That's gotta hurt.
This kinda reminds me of what Bond Arms walked into when they bought the Boberg designs
Yeah but Bullpup is moderately successful for Bond. Well it also costs a bit less.
@@zaitcev0 Not much less, maybe couple hundred less than this H9. Besides, you can get a Beretta PX4, nearly same design but almost half the price.
I love this but since it's Daniel Defense I'm sure it's going to cost a fortune
Yup
So was the orginal hudson right?
The original was packaged with stuff to increase the price, Daniel defense has the tech to do better QC so it might be worth it.
And be sub par quality
Knowing DD this is gonna be like a 4K pistol. lol
I couldn’t afford these kinds of pistols back then and I was disappointed that the company went out of business relatively quickly. Hopefully they release the threaded version soon.
Hell, I can't afford them now but layaway is a thing, and so are noodles lol
I genuinely think this is the best way how the H9 concept could be continued.
Although atmittedly, it is way better than the original.
Shot Show 2024 is off to a stellar start! I can't wait to try one of these in the hand at a local gun shop.
This is why I love this channel. You’ve shared the most crucial info, and plenty of it.
I was lucky, my h9 worked perfectly. With all the 2011 options, this needs to have a good price point to be competitive
It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.
One thing it will share with the Hudson version is the price tag lmao
Pre or post bankruptcy? I remember seeing them fire saled for $400.
It's $100 more than the original price
At least you won’t have to worry about not getting support if you run into problems or getting your gun back if you send it in for repair.
@@Clockwork0nionsit was 600 and that was after the bankruptcy. Got mine from the batch they sent out through grabagun
@@sg696 until DD cancels the pistol because it’s higher than the original H9 lol.
Mr Combat Shorts is back!! I get to question a lot of things while learning about new fire arms! I love it! 😊
So glad to see that the H9 didn’t die out. I knew someone would take this and turn it into something iconic.
The front end weight reduced recoil. The 3rd party suppliers had soft sears not hardened to standard, and the slide stop had issues.
It is $1299 on their website "coming soon." seems like a cool handgun
low muzzle flip is not only good for fast follow up shots but also to avoid stoppages from limpwristing under stress or when wounded. so definitly a plus plus for a duty or self defense gun.
This will be an instant buy for me. I loved my Hudson H9, but it kept breaking and I had to replace part after part on it. Daniel Defense seems like they’re doing it right and that will be worth the $1300 in my opinion.
Here we go gents! Happy ShotShow!
Havent been this excited for a new pew in a minute!
Awesome. I always wanted one of the Hudson 9s, but by the time I was ready all of their issues started popping up.
Great informative and in-depth video at a good length.
The HK USP 45 they did the same test of logging a round in the barrel and shot a round threw it and it did mess the barrel up some but it still functioned but accuracy was off some
DD entering the pistol market, you know it’s going to be quality.
Or just overpriced mediocrity
@@chrisquintana3877 $1,300 to be exact. Not great, not terrible...
It's comparable to other mid-high grade metal framed pistols in 9mm so they are competitively priced. Again, not cheap, but not something only for rich people either.
Na just overpriced, so many better pistols to buy instead of this
It's not really overpriced for what you are getting. Mind you, it's not a budget price either, but for what it comes with, it's competitive with the likes of Shadow 2 Compacts, Sig XMacro comp legions, etc...
@@thespectator5259 it’s too early to compare them lol
Glad someone picked this thing up and tried to improve it
Very, very good channel. I have been following for some time, never commented, and just wanted to say thanks and that I really like your stuff.
I loved the Hudson H9, hopefully it doesn't cost 4k.
Don't worry about the price I'm sure it will only be a measly $3,000.
The price has already been published
its $1299 on DD website
Not as bad as I was expecting.@@ForTehNguyen
@@actionjksn This comment aged well.
I bought one of the original H9s used about four years ago. Mine ran just fine and was pleasurable to shoot, but it suffered from atrocious accuracy. At 15 yards I struggled to keep rounds on a human silhouette. By comparison, I am able to keep 15 rounds from my G19 service weapon in an 8" circle from 25 yards. I hope DD is able to bring this to market, having fixed that issue, because only accurate guns are interesting.
I think a couple different people documented that the POA/POI of the original H9 was off due to basically iron sights that weren’t exactly a match. Mine ran reliably, but was impacting a good 6” below where I was aiming. I did some research and got a different height front FO sight from Wilson Combat, solved the problem. I did like the outlined tritium front sight better, hitting 6” low was unacceptable.
That may be true as well, but it's not what I was seeing. I was seeing an unacceptable shot dispersion. pure and simple it just wouldn't shoot straight. @@mi_cheap_guns2925
Nice Col. Townsend Whelen quote.
I'm kind of excited to see the Shot Show coverage of what's new this year... seems like every other year is a great year for innovative new design ideas 💡 with last year's shot show starting to sizzle out on the 5.7 cartridge... This year looks like it's going to be a great year!
About time! I’ve been waiting for this over a year!
looks amazing
I loved the orginal H9 especially with 124gr S&B ammo.
Glad to see the design live on( kind of).
It’s got a lot going for it! 1911-esque grip angle, aluminum frame, rail, optic reads, decent sights? A lot to like
I will be buying one. Love my H9s. A compact would be great for CC.
Would be interesting to see how effective is the recoil system but in a 10mm version. But is still interesting to see them creating a compact version for carry
I mean that's essentially what the fk brno psd with the 10mm conversion kit is.
I was thinking the exact same thing... I'd love a 10mm version. I'd most likely purchase one at the earliest availability
@@Sverd_Ok_Skjoldr Except that thing costs an arm and leg...Well the steel version does anyways, polymer version is still kind of expensive though for being...well polymer. Would be hilarious if Daniel Defense later comes out with a 10mm version for more or less the same price. It would ironically be a "budget" option for a 10mm double stack pistol, and a metal framed one at that.
Super excited this design lives on.
I just heard about this gun in the past day or so and didn't think much of it, but you made something I didn't care much about very interesting. That's talent.
How many proven, unbreakable, low bore axis CZ 75s can you buy for the price of a DD H9?
Foreign VS American. I'll buy a expensive American made gun before I buy a cheaper foreign made example. We don't all have morals so I'm glad there are people like you out there 😂😂
CZ75 is NOT "low bore axis."
Its frame being higher to envelope the slide rail from the outside making the slide appear low just gives that illusion.
MSRP is about 2 CZ 75BDs or 1.5 CZ 75 Tacticals.
Unbreakable??? It's well known kown the CZ's firing pin retaining pin WILL break, it's just a matter of when
My thought as well. I have a P01 and a P07 for less than that. I will keep those.
To me, this is similar to the recently reintroduced Automag 180; an independently developed, small production design with a lot of potential that is bought out and re-engineered to be what it should have been from the beginning.
This is what the H9 needed, A refresh and major improvements by a proven brand. Genuinely looking to oget one of these now.
CZ -- "Dang it, why didn't we think of that?"
I hope The Hudsons are happy with this. It was a bummer that their first attempt ended badly.
It was their own fault. Chasing $$$$ rather than making a good product
@@martingregoire8387 Bad decisions were made, yeah. But remember that is was literally a man and his wife and a dream. I haven't seen a Gregoire G9 ever, but I have seen Hudson H9s in the store in my tiny little podunk town of 2000.
Let’s goooo! Got to see this in person and couldn’t wait to see the drop.
Glad someone with proper funding picked up the general Hudson H9 design.
I’m glad I’ll get to experience shot show vicariously through you
$1,200
I must be missing something, but how is this pistol supposed to stand out in this competitive market (especially at this high price point)?
It doesn't, the way the trigger dongle pivots really bothered me
$1300 MSRP is high? Well, it’s not a 1911 or Glock clone, so that already gives it a leg up on the competition.
Great video and review!!
The strangest thing that happened to me today…. I woke up this morning with the thought, Daniel defense should start making pistols….. and then I see this video 🤯
Such a tease!! When and Cost should come first 😂
1299. Posted on the DD website
Hopefully they'll have a non-plate option for those who prefer having it milled for a lower footprint
It's baaaaaaack!! I remember fondling this at SHOT years back. Hope it's similar, but better, obviously.
Yay! The Bladerunner gun is back!
It's back? I didn't know Daniel Defense even made a pistol before.
*Unpopular Opinion: I think DD is over-priced for a okay-ish product.*
DD likes their products too much for me. I can build 3 ar15s for the price of 1 of theirs, and I can assume I can buy 4 glocks for the price of this 1 pistol that is unknown. Prices are going further up, but the guns are roughly the same bullet slingers with minor differences. I'll prepare for my roasting about how DD makes the best thing since sliced bread😂
I built my first 15 with a DD barrel and it's pretty awesome and got a package deal on it brand new from Armslist from a guy getting married and being forced to liquidate some of his toys. This was back when Armslist was still free. It's a great barrel and I paired it with some great components.
Do you really think you build a better AR than them though?
Ironically, Glock is one of the only companies that continues to sell the same bullet slingers with little to no change. Look up the technical specs of this handgun. Quite a different beast all together. Its price comes in a little over double that of a Glock, whether that’s worth it to you or not is utterly subjective.
@shinobi-no-bueno uhhh literally anyone with knowledge of ARs can build one with more upgraded parts. Building an ar is quite literally childs play. There's only a few things that a person could mess up. 95% of a builds quality is in the parts used. Use a quality barrel, bcg and trigger system and make sure the upper and lower are mil spec and you have a rifle roughly the same quality. Other than proprietary rifle setups a mil spec ar is a mil spec ar. It's the main components that make the difference not the name stamped on the reciever. Most recievers are made by one of a hand full of companies then assembled by the sellers. A mil spec lower + mil spec upper with quality barrel bcg and trigger will perform the same. The ar is alot simpler than ppl give it credit for. Hell that's why it's so popular. The custom proprietary rifles are a different story. Those are on another level, no doubt about that. I can justify the cost for some of those but not a mil spec rifle with a few upgrades.
@@actionjksn sounds like a well thought out build.
It's my 2nd favorite handgun next to the CZ Shadow
I was able to pick up one of the original H9 and pick up an aluminum frame for it as well, I’m pretty happy got these off Craigslist
Oh shit this is great. I can't wa- ....it's going to be $2000, isn't it. 💀
MSRP is $1299 on their website.
so Daniel defense finally doing something I'm interested in. but it will probably be way overpriced like everything else the sell.
I was so dissapointed when I was ~20ish. I had no money and they just suddenly fell off the face of the planet before I had a real job where I could work towards one. I don't remember the original price, but if it is MSRP $1300 then cost should be a little less, and I may actually buy it. If I can get one for less that $1k I'll be over the moon.
I'm convinced that the design mechanism that allows this to be so low-bore-axis will become the standard for future pistols in the not too distant future.
Only 50 proof loads? The MK23 ate up 3,000 .45 ACP proof loads without any major parts wear, on top of the USP being tested with a bullet intentionally loaded in the barrel and being shot out, too.
I hope this is sarcasm
@williamED15 I know right?
HK for the win. Again...
@@williamED15it's not. These people are mush in the head
The MK23 also sucks.

I liked the Hudson when the original review came out some time ago with exception for the obvious reasons. Cool to see it again with improvements.
I agree on the optic plates. Some handguns come with so many plates that on needs a dishwasher clean their handgun.
This is the best news i have had all year!!!
nevermind, aluminum frame... basterds
F'n A!!!
Hey James, any word on the NFA Maxim 9?
Been fiending for that since you showed it years ago @ Shot Show.
Mine arrives next Monday w/ 4 extra mags. Holsters though are still a problem. I guess DD didn’t think about that. I’ll have one made for me.
Wow, that's some good news. Always loved the design.
Good review on a good looking handgun. Thank.
Im gonna pick it up for sure
"We need to expand our line up and get ourselves into the pistol market. Anybody got any ideas?"
"2011's are popular. We should make one of those."
"Nah, that's stupid. Let's bring back a pistol design that nobody bought!"
That's how I suspect the meeting about this went.
You’re not wrong lol. Actually pretty close to how most meetings went lol
Looks interesting for sure !!
I never thought anyone would buy this and bring it back. So happy 😂
Interesting news. I hadn’t heard about DD doing this.
I really enjoy shooting my Hudson H9 and see a noticeable difference in muzzle rise and felt recoil. The overall design and look of the firearm is unique and so cool...but the most important factor just didn't make the cut. The reliability is horrendous on my H9. I consistently have a failure to eject about once or twice per magazine. I still have mine but would never consider using it for any purpose other than just range time or maybe malfunction drills. Lol. Great to see it back from the dead and even better than before. I trust Daniel Defense has made some improvements especially in reliability.
I thought the same thing at first. If the quality is what the spec sheet says it should be it’s not horrible. It’s in line with the Walther 4” and 4.5” steel frames
best over view of a firearm
Awesome!
Now you have my attention!
I liked the first rough Dieselpunk prototypes of the Hudson H9 featured in the Forgotten Weapons video.
I've been watching the perfection of the 9x19mm service pistol for over 50 years. Dirty business.
South Louisiana background with the live oaks and spanish moss. I approve.
Just got one yesterday. Literally after pulling directly out of box and firing 15 rounds… about an inch of the back strap chipped off. I also can’t manually clear rounds chambered. Have to violently pull the slide back like 20 times for the round to eject. A little disappointing. Have had zero issues with my HK, Ruger and M&P pistols throughout my shooting life. This all happened this weekend so haven’t been able to talk to Daniel defense
Im so happy that DD has resurrected the H9. I was really sad that the design never got implemented into a proper production handgun. I cant wait to pick this gun up.
Honestly, this or something like this was the best case scenario for the H9. Sure, it would have been nice for a new start-up with an innovative design to scale on its own and carve out their own place, but partnering with an established manufacturer with a good reputation is a much more likely way to see those innovative products come to market without teething problems and stay there.
Thank you for the update!! I liked the idea of Hudson. Glad Daniel Defense is moving forward with production. Daniel Defense's website says no thumb safety.
As a 1911, Hi-Power, CZ 75 series enthusiast, I prefer the option of a thumb safety.
S&W M&P series offers a thumb safety on most of their models.
Could you check to see if the IFG PSD 7.5 Multi-Caliber version of Brno 7.6 is going to be available?
This pistol had a low bore axis and the 7.5 cartridge is really cool IMHO.
@5:20 DD is following HK’s lead; all HKs can handle overpressure rounds and safely fire out a squib load - and thereafter maintain, I believe, 2” accuracy at 50m. That said, never fire without clearing a squib.
I’ve been waiting YEARS FOR THIS!! Fuck yeah!!
That gun looks sick
Somebody was on their game- this is one smooth looking bullet-launcher! Tell us more, brother…😊
I have an original H9 from Hudson and it shoots like a dream, don’t put a lot of rounds through it but I will have to add the DD version as a V2.
Nice!
Okay! I'm interested!! DD, you have my attention.
