  • They threatened to shut down the economy over lack of consensus regarding the new minimum wage negotiations and the reversal of electricity tariff, and they are at it. Despite pleas from the Federal Government for reconsideration, members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC finally embarked on an industrial action. In solidarity, workers, from various sectors withdrew their services, disrupted operations at the airports, blocked entry to the seaport in Lagos and shut down the National grid, leading to a nationwide blackout. But Nigerians are outraged, lamenting that the ongoing strike spells more woes for the struggling economy. As such, stakeholders are appealing to the labour unions to be considerate in their demand for 494,000 naira as minimum wage and accept the 60,000 naira proposed by the Federal Government and Organised Private Sector.

BKO, workers on essential services even doctors and nurses can engage in industrial action. The example of Egypt you gave President Alsisi would not behave like his opposite number in Nigeria.
The national grid you are talking about has been shutting itself down severally due to grid collapse. What has the government done about grid collapse?
Mr Jamiu will always show the symptoms of his Labour derangement syndrome by saying that Labour is politicising the issue. He knows that the Minimum wage Act does not include employers with less than 25 workers. Mr Jamiu has been singling out NLC president. Now he knows that both NLC and TUC are in agreement on their demand.
The government has not shown enough good faith in the negotiation which is the major problem.

Nigeria is a very indiscipline country. If the people responsible for shutting down the National Grid go unpunished, expect worse things to come in future. We are deteriorating in conduct everyday!!

You and who is complaining about the shut down of power grid?
The same people did not complain when the senate and house of rep are earning fat salaries even though the country is bleeding like they claim, this country cant go further if the common man cant take actions. If any senator can tell what they have done to deserve such salaries, which law have they made in this country since 2015 that favors a common man. Things are difficult and this senators are collecting hardship allowance, all this people complaining about labour strike, should keep quite. So the senators cant cut their pay eii. We are wicked in this country i swear. The FG dont obey laws
