I'm 31 years old and I've been making music for as long as I can remember, and my God kids, you have no idea how lucky you are to have so many tutorials available to you. I mean, Black Sun Empire showing you how they make their ridiculous reeses. I would have killed for this ten years ago! So much pain and suffering us old timers have had to endure... :'( Honestly, this stuff is gold. Appreciate it you lucky, lucky bastards!!!!
you so fucking right. I remeber those days, when I started producing drumandbass back in year 2000, the only way to learn something were just chaotic pushing of knobs and button pressing, till yo get some result.
I knew the process was highly involved, but damn! I saw the years of experience from the way you just hopped around the program and not hesitating to mess with the waves. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Having no musical background and no knowledge of cubase or other music making software I had no idea what was going on but I still enjoyed watching the entire vid!
Just when I thought I have seen every Reese tutorial out there....................mind blowing, no wonder their stuff sounds so huge. Back to the drawing board for me, lol Thank you so much for sharing these amazing tips guys, seriously, thank you !!!!
The style is so quickly recognisable. You really carved a nice gritty corner in the DnB world! Gotta admit though, that basic ni Driver, that made it instantly click for me. Big up, and keep the tutorials coming! -that nutter that still wants UtregMassive back together
Hey, guys. Big up for doing this tutorial because this way you are helping to a lot people. You explain things so smooth and easy for understanding. Thank you for this tutorial. I will just give You an idea for your next tutorial: mastering. I hope you make this because I believe there are many many people out there who have troubles mastering their tracks. Cheers.
Thanks for posting this and sharing the Empire knowledge with the world. There are many tutorials out there but few are from established artists. If the Empire is going to continue sharing their knowledge it would be appreciated to get a tutorial on workflow, Empire style, and a few tutorials about how you make those dark pads and ambience, including fav scales and chord progression. Thanks again and much success with the new label.
Thank you! You've turned my day off work ill, into a productive one!! Some very useful techniques. I'm using Studio 1 so it's tricky to translate them, but very, VERY useful techniques. Thank you.
Wow. I'm definitelly impressed, this is why I love Black Sun Empire ! I was sure you were not using massive. Yay for non-massive users. Anyway I like the way you teach man, nice tutorial. Looking forward to new ones :)
This is awesome, big big respect to you guys for taking the time out to give us an insight into how you make your disgusting low down dirty reeces. Amazing tutorial, thanks man
What I loved more than anything from you guys is your simplicity and self-effacement, it's just charming (not gay stuff) just really love the frankness for speaking. That's not a very common characteristic on a human. Perhaps you're not from this planet. :pp
Bloody hell, you make synth making and processing look so easy and accidental. Hmmmm this will do, i'll press this n that n then that n oh look an epic bassline lol. Superb tutorial, i hope you make another one soon =)
It's a damn good tutorial! Just convinced me to drop Fruity Loops and try out Cubase. If you've got some time on you hands you should defenetly make more of this!
Thanks for this tutorial! Could you tell us whats going on on your Master out channel? I can sort of guess what the limiter is doing but you've got the guitar rig strapped on there too?? Is this for later on automation purposes or are you using a buss compressor in there? Cheers
I don't know, I got bored of FL. But yeah after this video I grabbed surge for sure, and guitar rig is also around the corner. I'm also experimenting with Logic, but FL is always gonna be my medicine if I want some music for fun ;) Oh and the second episode just came out!
i don't even use Fl, but I've heard a few good things about it lately. Regardless there are many people who can make good stuff with any daw.... you can do pretty much anything you want with any music program. Its just harder to figure out how with some.
Wicked tutorial, i'd always used FX sends instead of groups and wondered if there was a way to route them back into another group before going to the master!
+TheVaiso I use FL Studio and i think doesn't have this group option, but i route the channels like a D-Link router (just kidding) and i "emulate" this
Thanks for the reply, i wasnt expecting one to be honest. I thought there might be some black magic going on that you might not be sharing! Really looking forward to the next tutorial, i know you guys are really busy with projects and labels etc etc but when do you think it might be? It would give a whole lot of people something to look forward to. Cheers
this is real tutorial from black sun empire???? am i dreaming??? this is so awesome, just few clicks and sound was awesome.could you make a tutorial on how to make a fat beat?im doing drum n bass but its all shit.btw im huge fan of bse,atm best dnb on this planet.ty master.keep doing good music;)peace.
Surge has been made open-source! It is available as 64-bit macOS (AU,VST2,VST3) and 64-bit Windows (VST2,VST3) at surge-synthesizer.github.io - and people are working on getting it to build and run properly on Linux too.
i didn't even notice the 2nd guitar rig on the master. most likely it's to add colour to the mix, i.e saturation and vintage warmth. some of the NI classic plugins needed to load within guitar rig before Komplete 9 was released.
I tried to remake the synth you made here, but couldnt figureout to get it just right. Then i saw that you have several plugins on your master channel. Any chance you could reveal what you do there?
the master channel: the limiter is there to keep things from clipping (obviously) and the guitar rig has no processing active, only there to record the things i'm playing so i could later add it to the video ;)
How can i split the bass signals in Fl studio? answer pls do i need 2 instances of surge for a low and a hight end to link them together in one channel?
Assign Surge, or whatever vst you want to use, to an fx Channel on the mixer, then send the signal from that channel to as many channels as you would like to split. Then create a submix to send the busses back to for a single signal to be processed. (If this is confusing hover mouse over your mixer and press F1 and do a bit of reading on your mixer) You can also use patcher to do everything inside of 1 fx bus.
I really liked that he moved the phase of the LFO to start from max. Feel a bit sheepish admitting it, but I never thought of that. Will start using. Cool vid!
I can't get guitar rig's split module to work for the life of me, it won't let me load different effects on to either side, does anyone have any sweet suggestions?
run into trouble using FX busses, cause i cant route / send them to grp tracks in my cubase. (???) - using group track works fine though with just insert fx on it as a fake fx bus :-) thx for tuto!

There also lucky that computers are so cheap, when I started there was none and it required buying strictly hardware.
you so fucking right. I remeber those days, when I started producing drumandbass back in year 2000, the only way to learn something were just chaotic pushing of knobs and button pressing, till yo get some result.
I think this guy died from a heart attack when he discovered serum
This. There was NOTHING in 1998 to 2008. DOA was a troll fest.
Same and we have almost the same name 😂
I knew the process was highly involved, but damn! I saw the years of experience from the way you just hopped around the program and not hesitating to mess with the waves. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Been waiting for years and years for this..you guys are incredible
One of the most useful synthesis tutorial videos I've ever seen.
Black Sun Empire, my teenage year heroes and now they are teaching me how they make a bass. Happy :)
Just when I thought I have seen every Reese tutorial out there....................mind blowing, no wonder their stuff sounds so huge. Back to the drawing board for me, lol Thank you so much for sharing these amazing tips guys, seriously, thank you !!!!

I am not interested in making music, but its awesome to watch you make music :)
Great tutorial...Thanks for taking time out to do this. BSE OWNS!!
Great stuff...many thanks for taking the time to do this!
this is great! thanks for the video!
It'd be awesome if you did a video on filtering & resampling. I'd love to learn more about that
neurofunk is the test of true production skills. If you can make it, then there's virtually nothing you can't make.
I'll have to try using Guitar Rig on my reeses for more distorted sound, might go nicely with the FM synthesis.
Perfect... Looking forward for more tutorials.. :)
More tutorials please! This is awesome!!!

Great video! Never thought of using Guitar rig for bass routing!!! AWESOME!
Liam Lancaster That is quite typical in neurofunk
this is real tutorial from black sun empire???? am i dreaming??? this is so awesome, just few clicks and sound was awesome.could you make a tutorial on how to make a fat beat?im doing drum n bass but its all shit.btw im huge fan of bse,atm best dnb on this planet.ty master.keep doing good music;)peace.

jesus! this is sick. Thank you mate
Great tutorial!!! Tutorial 002 - Drums? :)
this is sick man!
Thank you for sharing!

You should check out noisia's tutorial they put out recently about their drums, it's not free, but worth the knowledge :)
i didn't even notice the 2nd guitar rig on the master. most likely it's to add colour to the mix, i.e saturation and vintage warmth.
some of the NI classic plugins needed to load within guitar rig before Komplete 9 was released.
Brilliant! Is this from Computer Music 199? Or did you do one with them as well?
Hell yeh nice tutorial !
I tried to remake the synth you made here, but couldnt figureout to get it just right. Then i saw that you have several plugins on your master channel. Any chance you could reveal what you do there?
erik2607 pretty sure it's only limiter
There is also another guitar rig!
fabfilter pro -l < limiter
guitar rig < amp sim
and voxengo SPAN > as analyzer
Great tutorial man, u helped me out!
u should do some more!
liked and fav'ed.
Peace!
Worth mentioning that Surge, one of the synths used here, is now free (open-source even): github.com/kurasu/surge/releases
Nice tutorial. Need more :)
Thank You!
You dont need Cubase to get the same results, just got Surge and Guitar Rig and did the same thing in Fruity Loops! :D
cheers! Have a nice day!
the master channel: the limiter is there to keep things from clipping (obviously) and the guitar rig has no processing active, only there to record the things i'm playing so i could later add it to the video ;)
The Guitar rig presets you have would be nice as not in the brought version?
What's that program ?
Are you the same owl from doa ? always making a post about some neuro reece ?
If I'd had to guess - the Transient Master in Guitar Rig. It can help a lot!
What's the synth they use ?
Please do a "BLACKOUT - Tutorial 002" ! :)
ending percussive bass is verry sickk.
How can i split the bass signals in Fl studio? answer pls

Edward Lee Thanks! i got it, really helpful :)
Max Celinder Or you could just like... not use fl studio... *cough* ableton *cough* XP
Liam Lancaster nope, if you've seen the stuff coming to FL12, you may question Live 9s power...
Can't wait to play with the new vector based mixer.
I see you finally gave in to macs. You said in your DOA Q+A you didn't buy apple!
Did you watch until the end?
I don't use massive either, but it's not like massive is a bad VST.
I did everything same but the sound is different - not that tasty.... any idea? thnx
really nice :) thanks
Okay how does anybody come up with this sort of stuff?!!? Just sick....
I really liked that he moved the phase of the LFO to start from max. Feel a bit sheepish admitting it, but I never thought of that. Will start using. Cool vid!
This video could be titled " World domination 101, I will be your master"
thanks a lot man!
great tips guys! thx!
Great, thx. But where is the final track? ^_^
I can't get guitar rig's split module to work for the life of me, it won't let me load different effects on to either side, does anyone have any sweet suggestions?
When i duplicate the massive patch, mine doesn't sound anything like that one in this video...
Don't forget Billain, Emperor, Receptor, Spor....:)
run into trouble using FX busses, cause i cant route / send them to grp tracks in my cubase. (???) - using group track works fine though with just insert fx on it as a fake fx bus :-) thx for tuto!
