This is one channel where I actually don't mind a little click bait. Everyone knows you're just having a bit of fun. This was another great episode, no matter the title.
I absolutely agree...all of us who regularly view Ship Happens have come to enjoy your sense of humor and presentation style. Click bait adds to the enjoyment.
Every week, this is one of the highlights. This week, no different. You guys are crushing it. Boat rights. Entertainers. All around great folks. And … problem solvers! 🇨🇦
I just hope they didn't do it on Ch 16. I had an air drop here in Vietnam of two bags of Yorkshire tea, plus my grand daughter works for the Yorkshire tea distributor.
One thing is for sure, when you guys ever get close to the day. You will know that ship inside and out. Congrats guys ,I’m am so proud of both of you , and I’m praying that one day soon you’ll get to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Peace.
Seriously, this is my favourite entertainment of the week. You do a 1 hour video and I feel shortchanged. You two are inspirational. Simon is very talented with a good sense of humour and a deep knowledge of physics. Gemma is so bright, hardworking funny and supportive of Simon. If anyone feels the country has difficulties I would just suggest they watch this channel which will not only give them deep sense of optimism but a seriously good giggle too. Thank you for such wonderful videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Don't the pair of you ever change.... This episode had me laughing out loud !!!You're doing a brilliant job in not nice conditions and doing Sarinda proud, keep it up!!!
What a brilliant episode! You guys are great together. Simon’s technical ability coupled with Gemma’s practicality is lovely to watch. Moving that generator worried me but it all worked out fine. I’m renovating an old house at the moment and I wish my wife was as practical as you Gemma. You are truly worth your weight in gold❤️ What a team you both are. I love watching you making progress on Sarinda. So enjoyable to watch, love the innuendos as well, so funny😂 Loved this episode 🥰🥰🥰
I don't need click-bait to watch you guys. You tend to be very entertaining mixed with hard work and determination with a little bit of sauciness thrown in here and there. Your occasional adult pg-13 humor, with the laughing big smiles and Gemma slightly blushing, makes me laugh out loud! Keep up the great work.
As a Yorkshireman, I wholeheartedly approve of your tea of choice. It is my tea of choice too. Dame & Jess of Project Brupeg used flexible solar panels that can be walked on so they might be worth looking into. I can't think of a suitable title but maybe you can "generate" one.
Love this episode with some unintentionally ambiguous smuty remarks. And the inganuaty to get that engine in to place deserves a full-on medal . Happy New Year to you all regards PeterTmidWalesUK. .
Always great videos! If you take 6" or 8" pvc pipe, cut it to fit between the ribs (figure in the length with the caps), glue a cap on one end then fill the pipe with slag. When it's full add oil. The oil even used engine oil (free) will stop the corrosion and add weight. Then glue another cap on the open end and it's sealed, It won't rust and you can move them around with a rachet strap very easily, and it's cheap and permanent. Keep up the good work!
Consider this. Plumb the generator cooling system into the nearby Caterpillar, using it's cooling system and block as a "heat sink". A second-floor radiator could be in the circuit as well. A thermostat could open or close the Cat circuit so it operates only when required.
Well I was booking a trip on a sailing ship called the Williams, sailing out of Blyth, and whose smiley face did I spot in a few photos in their photo gallery!
Me and my old boss, he was full cajun, built a generator from a 18 wheeler ( lorry). We made biodiesel from the restaurants old cooking oil. It ran the restaurant. We were so proud.
Connect the outgoing cooling line from the generator to the heating boiler, and then the return line from your radiators to the motorcycle cooler. This way, you will make use of the heat from the generator throughout the entire boat.
That was some episode.!!! Moving the generator was amazing... it looked so exhausting that "I " felt like having a cup of tea after it was in place..😂 the way you both work out solutions to problems is inspirational. Your videos are a "must see" for me every week... 😊
I know this comment is more likely too late to mention, but in my little opinion, I would not use the existing plywood. Personally I would replace it with planks like she was born to keep it as originally intended and keep it period correct. I mean, you two made the forward deck and interior looking so original and beautiful. Definitely planks would be in order....I know it costs, but.....
I do remember very well you building that generator, I think you got the engine from an old garden rotavator or something, the amount of work you put into that generator was amazing especially the water cooling system, fabricating and welding the pipe work was just genius , I your channel and always look forward to Friday for another episode to drop 👍😊
Having had two generators - one raw salt water cooled, and one fresh water through a heat exchanger. I can strongly recommend you use the fresh water/heat exchanger route. As for solar panels. The ones that produce the most power are not ones you can walk on. the walkable ones have a problem, when you fix them to the deck, that means that there is no means of cooling under the panel. That has a big impact on performance,
Well done on reaching 100k subscribers - well deserved. Having been watching for sometime now I realised that I came in half way through and missed loads. So I went back to the beginning and watched every episode. I finally caught up tonight and am now enjoying the ‘current episode’. My only issue is now I have to wait a week each time to get my Gemma and Simon fix. You guys are really entertaining, thank you for entertaining me over the last few months. Dave Birmingham
adding a radiator to the genni is a good idea, you will find if you want the rads to warm up quickly is to fit a electrical or a bronze lift pump fitted to the engine, I used the same idea on my fishing boats of the past to dry wet gear off in the cabin, just make sure you use lift pumps that can take the heat, cheap plastic inline pumps just downt cut it.
Don't reinvent the wheel! The youtube channel "Project Brupeg" has done all the research on walkable solar panels. Also I loved the long format of this episode. Love you guys♥
You guys are amazing! Check with some narrowboat builders about the solar. A lot of the newer ones are being built with panels that both follow the contours of the boat and can be walked on.
Heads up. I've tried exhaust flex pipe and the heat wrap and it didn't work out. It eventually leaked from the micro-flexing, from the vibration, at all of the seams. I eventually ended up using a rosebud torch to bend non-gavanized tubing packed with sand. The packed sand holds the tube's shape during the bending process. Or you can buy pre-bent exhaust system tube sections and weld them together.
You can call it what you like. Your cast is the highlight of my Friday teatime. I've watched every episode from 001. Now you know what you're doing the acceleration of repairs are flying. Well done, fantastic x
Canadian here. I once rebuilt a 30 foot pleasurecraft that was in much better shape than your vessel. Took me 2 years. Bought a new gm Bluewater v8 and set out from Montreal and descended the intercoastal Waterway to Florida and then to the Bahamas. The job was daunting and at times discouraging but in the end the voyage was the most amazing adventure I ever had in my life. I must say I am in awe of you guys for keeping an upbeat attitude throughout the restoration. What a huge undertaking! Best of luck to you. Rick
My house had a thermal store heating system. It was a domestic hot water cylinder with three flange connectors at the top and three more at the bottom. It also had a high performance copper coil in the top. The coil provided instant hot water without cross contamination between circulating water and tap water. The six flange connectors allow two independent heat sources. Yours could be oil fired boiler and the generator. The radiators use the last two flanges. The same water gets pumped around the heating radiators. The large mass of stored hot water prevents the numerous flows from interfering with each other. Thermostats and two port valves switch things on as needed.
Simon & Gemma you two are both downright incredible human beings. Nothing phases either of you. Your team work is so impressive. We look forward to every video to witness what amazing achievements you accomplish. Love you guys. All the best from Perth Western Austrslia.
If you’re in salt water, I recommend a heat exchanger to keep salt water out of the Kubota. You can remote a radiator but the water pump on the engine might not be able to handle the distance (someone mentioned this) so a centrifugal pump for the radiator would be a great help. Definitely add a high water temp shutdown, the kubota’s are sensitive to scoring pistons because of high temps. I think Deep Sea has a nice module that has HWT and LOP shutdowns.
Had to smile - we’ve been havin loads probs with a 6kv Nanni generator - crossing the Atlantic and around the Caribbean. Currently havin it rewound in a shack in the jungle on St Lucia . We’re also going to go towards more solar as generators are just trouble waiting ti happen … 😂

Good Grief Yes you can, use a heater rad as well, but the way to do it is to have water to water heat exchanger, you can make them it is easy enough to do, put the heat exchanger inline with the out flow from the gen
When moving heavy item like that gennie, I used to attach a couple short pieces of flat scrap wood onto bottom of the heavy item buy some ABS plastic pipe cut it to length, then use the longer pieces of scrap wood as tracks with the plastic pipe as rollers. I could move cast iron boilers into position with the method.
Thank you for the great adventures to show us how much work is needed to work on restoring a ship it's quite an adventure you're giving us God bless you both
Shame the generator broke down. So you know how many hours you have put on the EcoFlow unit? Good to see the diesel make it to the boat after watching Simon build it all those videos ago. What you could do for the winter is plumb your radiator circuit through the engine (bit like fitting a heater matrix or calorifier) so there would be no need to run the boiler whilst the generator is running. Might still need the cooling radiator but it would help use the heat as well as stop it getting too hot

Great work, nice to see the generator in and running power into your batteries. I’ve had many teabags and other refreshments flown in. Some even got past me and went to where they were ment to be going.
Brupeg in Australia fitted walkable solar panels all over their flat surfaces. Might be good to reach out to them or check videos from a few months ago...
@doonhamer252 solar does not need direct sunlight my house solar pulls in £900 annually on average in the Midlands, you would be surprised how much battery charging on smaller systems bring in.
Great idea to use an additional radiator or two for ambient heat. To make it work you will have to use a additional coolant pump. The water pump on the eng won't punp the coolant through out the system. Same principle is used on busses. Try using PEX tubeing to keep cost down.

The gen set would be a nice small preheater for the big cats too
The pressure might be too low on an extended system though. Water pump might not be enough to pump a large volume of water around.
I cannot believe how you got that generator on board. Amazing!
