Definitely feel the same way about it looking better on PS1. There's something about low-poly 3D graphics that work better for a lot of games from that era than more modern 3D does -- perhaps because everything was designed with the limitations in mind. And nostalgia, probably.
I think the reason the original game looks better is because of the hardware limitations of the PS1. The PS1 was actually less powerful than the N64 and wasn't capable of the same technical feats. So they had to work around those limitations in order to make the game look charming. Meanwhile, the updated graphics feel more reminiscent of Yooka-Laylee.

regarding caddys point about the originals looking better: I agree but i cna pin it down. the original of several remade games lie klonoa and oddworld look bettr for us because they have unique styles, they didn't have the tech to be TOO fancy so they had to be thoughtfu about how they'd styalise the graphics to match their vision and what the scene are meant to convey, and so wed get more unique art styles for the grpahics. the new versions look nice but they also lose a lot of that UNIQUE CHARM, as since they're jsut gonna all be super def 3D they look the same as like a lot of other games. (also klonoa's 2D graphics also allowed for fun one off shit like balue's head growing giant as he reals at klonoa and huepow to shut up, while in the remake he DOESN'T do that and they do nothig fun with the shout at all)
Aye Caddy mate..have you ever heard of a game called Haven Call Of The King. I'd love to see you play this cus when I did the ending was let's say interesting. Not bad but very unexpected.

I'm so glad we agree that the PS1 games just look better. I'm more of a fan of pre-rendered cutscenes and 2D gameplay.
