      That's so true because pop songs we're never written to be played as instrumentals. When played as instrumentals they sound boring. Add a singing voice and that song comes alive.

    Jason, I have to say that you knocked it out of the park with this one. I was stuck on C major for the longest time and recently moved to G major and loved the tones, but I have grown bored of the progression in this key as well. Now I have 15 more awesome progressions to learn! You are amazing at what you do and you have the most effective video tools of any teacher on TH-cam. You show the keys being played, you show the notes in the scale, you have the chords/notes shown in real time as you are playing, you play real world-popular songs to relate the structures to and your handwritten notes show clearly what is going on. Thank you so much!

    Excellent stuff. Using the "numbers system" makes some puzzling things make sense. One thing that helped me a long time ago to figure out the different key signatures was that the major scale has a half step between 3 and 4 and 7 and 8. Once you figure that simple thing out, the scales will make a LOT more sense. Good job. Once you get the numbers, it doesn't matter what key the song is in. 1-4-5 verse with a 2-5 chorus and a 1-2-4-5 bridge can be played in in ANY key. Keep up the good work. Great to see someone emphasizing numbers.

    ... only thing left to do is Rhythm Changes... Excellent lesson. I'm slowly trying to learn extensions, voicings, and chord shapes. But these progressions get the job done and are easier to memorize. But if you have strategies for memorizing neo soul chords, I'd pray for your health, prosperity, and happiness.

    Incredibly educational video like always. Question. I wrote a ballad that I would like to play on the 1564 or the 1526 progressions. The problem is that the verses and the chorus all have 6 lines each. My daughter suggested I write the melody on a 4 line and 2 line system where the last two lines kind of serve as a preamble of the next verse or chorus and do the same with the 6 lines in the chorus. Would you use like a repetition of 64 or 26 for the last two lines on the verses or you suggest something different? Now, on the chorus, would you start like on 64 or 26 for the first 2 lines and then switch to 1564 or 1526 for the last four? Example:
    I saw you in a window one day 1
    While making errands in a hurry 5
    So, I only managed a smile 2
    That you answered with a stare 6
    Looking disrespected ?
    Totally unaware ?
    I know the question is not complete since I don't have a melody yet. But I am stuck with the 6 line situation. Thanks for all your teachings.

    • @marshallsmith1366
      @marshallsmith1366 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The melodic phrase should never line up with the harmonic phrase. Having a problem like you have is no big deal. Just throw out the alignment!

    • @nathanielschool
      @nathanielschool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a ton! Perhaps you can use line 5 & 6 as a pre chorus? Or look at a writing/rhyming style like AAB AAB. In this way, you can use the 6 lines quite well as a verse!

    Minute 12:30 so you play some chords along the scale. So what you did play between the chords as chordchanging. Often I heared that you play some kind of tones between 2 chords also some chordprogression. May you can make a tutorial how to train or drill that for working all the playtime. I hope you understand what I mean. Thanks a lot.

    Love ur work Nathaniel.
    How do we choose the best chord pattern for a melody. As there are infinite possibilities. What's your thought process and how should one approach harmony for a composition.
