Last time I was in York, I went to Pickering and visited Goathland. I couldn't believe my luck when the train I came back on, was Sir Nigel Gresley. I remember getting off the train at Grosmont, taking a photo of the engine, then getting back on again, before heading back to Pickering... wonderful memories, thank you.
Seen this gorgeous loco in action on the nymr while staying near Levisham station. Only regret was I didn't ask if could get up on the foot plate whilst at the station
SNG is seen here in a British Railways livery - which included black wheels. Red wheels were introduced in 1937 (with Garter Blue livery on the streamlining), and this became the standard LNER livery for the A4s until the war.
I wish they would paint the nameplate and wheels red instead of black like it was during the 1970s and 80s, makes it stand out more I think. Also, I hadn't realised until I read an A4 Pacific book I have that Nigel Gresley at one time was painted green up until the late 60s, and so was Mallard at one time. Would also be nice whenever it undergoes a renovation to repaint it that green livery, but I doubt they ever will, but would make a nice change from being biue. I also didn't know that every A4 originally had valances when built (skirting), but alot of the A4s this was removed during the war. I think they look better streamline speaking with the valances.
The full listing of A4 liveries is fascinating in its own right. I'll give you a decent list of the colours carried by the class (not all of them carried every livery though). Silver-Grey (the first four 'silver' engines), LNE standard Apple Green Garter Blue Wartime austerity black BR experimental purple BR experimental blue (as carried in the video) BR Standard Green (similar to GW Brunswick)

PS, I should have said that this was many years ago, as I know that the engine is now being restored.
I know that many people will agree with me, but I would love to see this wonderful locomotive being fully restored and running again.
Like pure poetry! More please.
Some great shots of a majestic legend. Beautiful machine she is. Hope she is back from overhaul soon.
I've been on this train, boarding from Grosmont. Great memories.
Wow, that's a beautiful engine and tender!
Glad you enjoyed it Gordon. I certainly did.
He’s probably annoyed at the railroad for not letting him HURRY HURRY HURRY.
I know that I've said this before, but what a beautiful locomotive.

That whistle sounds amazing!
Yes, a very nice chord!
They sound so,,, genteel... compared with NZ J and K class locomotives ,,even smaller Ab s
The whistle came from the Romney Hythe and dymchurch railway, when Nigel gresley visited.
The shape of the locomotive is unique, but interesting. I like this video. Greetings from Indonesia
It is indeed stunning especially at speed. Glad you enjoyed it.

Shouldn’t the wheels be red?

Wish I was! Lucky you.
