Homer Simpson: Okay. Half of you vibrate that way, nelson, you just spin around in a circle.
    JG9: Welcome to dumb decisions

Rutigliano brought new meaning to the term “Boo Birds”.

But seriously, if you could only put up 13 against the early '80s Chargers, you deserved a lot more than mere booing.

Hear, hear. Ranked dead last in pass defense for the second straight year despite forcing the seventh most turnovers in the league and ranking ninth in the league against the run.

I was thinking he would've said the fans were chanting "Rue" and then I would've asked what Rue McLanahan was doing in Cleveland pre-Blanche Devereaux.
At least if he'd said the fans were chanting "Rue," it would've been funny and disarming. That was flat-out embarrassing! Kinda like doing nothing but spiking the ball into the ground on every single play.

Rutigliano went to Tulsa for college. I heard that Rue McClanahan was also from Tulsa.

Remember the TV movie Golden Girls era Rue McClanahan did where she was with Patrick Duffy (who had to be 20-30 years younger) and it totally worked?

I heard that they thought about bringing in Rue McLanahan to replace him, but settled with Marty Schottenheimer because he was already part of the organization.

Even without the "I'm sorry, what?" line, this was funny. Maybe they should've changed their name to the Cleveland Geese.

It was because of Don Cockroft that the Browns didn’t kick a chip shot FG in the divisional round and instead forced a pass that was intercepted in the end zone securing the Raiders 14-12 win. Painful.

So Rutigliano didn't know a goose's honk from humans booing?

He could have said the fans were shouting, "BOOOOZE!!" because they needed something to take the edge off what they were seeing.

It had to be especially tough on QB Brian Sipe, getting booed and having a lousy game vs his old college coach on San Diego (Sipe played his college ball at San Diego St. under Coach Coryell). Paul McDonald was being a stand-up guy, defending his QB team mate. It was a miserable year for Browns fans, 1982.

This was not the stupidest and dumbest moment of Rutigliano's career. Rather, that was Red Right 88 in the playoffs against the Raiders.
    😉😋

JG9 did a deep dive into that play as part of "In Defense Of" series...and of course it got a "if you want to learn more about that play, click the card in the upper right corner" plug.

I blame Brian Sipe more for Red Right 88 than Sam Rutigliano.

@@Bruce12867 Kinda like Pete in the Super Bowl, when you realize that Russ did the *exact same thing* on TNF vs the Colts last year.
In his defense, he had Javonte Williams and MGIII both fumble inside the 5 in his grand return to Seattle, but that was karma more than anything else

Most of us prob recommend our fave teams b/c we are more familiar with them, so what I'm about to suggest is an occurrence with the Saints back in 1983. I don't know if it would be entertaining, but it's interesting. I also don't know if was common back in 1983. The Saints played the Dolphins in the Superdome and since the Dolphins were from the AFC, the game was on NBC. From the time the broadcast started at 3pm CST, they didn't show one commercial until the game was in the 2nd quarter. They even stayed with the game when the teams were switching sides of the field after the 1st quarter ended. If you can find out why they did that and there is enough info for a video, I thought you might want to look into it.

In baseball there's "Looooooou" for Lou Piniella or "Mooooooo" for Mookie Wilson (not sure if Dodger fans do that for Betts).

That Elway drive, that Ernest Byner fumble, didn't the Browns lose 3 AFC title games to Denver in 4 years
