  • Graeme & Mike Pullen from The Totally Awesome Fishing Show take you to Watmore Farm Fishery, a day ticket water. Using simplest of rigs and just bread for bait, they show you that going back to basics can sometimes be a lot more fun! This is a great video for beginners and anglers alike, and Graeme even shows you how to make the bread groundbait mix made famous in our other carp videos.

    Exactly ! You are using stuff that many anglers don't use so it comes across to carp as new and they aren't spooky. I think they might be more likely to spook at a boilie as everyone is using them.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Floating crust, but without the curry powder. If nobody fishes it you won't need any flavourings etc. Or just floatfish a large chunk of breadflake on a size 4 carp hook. If the pond is small they will find it sooner or later. Make sure you throw plenty of loose crust offerings in so they get used to it.So try Pedigree chum mixers from the supermarket.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Re-bait after any missed bites,especially if you are getting tweaks.If not,rebait every fifteen minutes,and throw some bait in every 20 mins.Hard to say,it depends how the bites are going.If its fast,keep it going in every few minutes.They can hoover up the bait pretty quickly.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah,probably me.I think it was written by Henry Gilbey and I took him to the Florida Keys and over to Vancouver Island on my group trips.Had some good Salmon on Vancouver Island,and it was in a fabulous setting as well. Had some good quality photos in it if I recall.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bread works pretty much anywhere,but if you are using bread you probably don't need the yeast as finished product has already done that stage. You will probably do well with that mix in another month when the water temperatures start to rise. And of course if you buy it in a supermarket it can be a really cheap bait.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need to use baits that float on the surface if its allowed. Try a piece of breadcrust on a size 4 hook, or soak some chum mixer dog biscuits and throw them out. Cast out one with a hook in it.Good luck.

    Don't know the water obviously,but I'd say yes,but you might get ducks.Bait it in the dark if you have duck/swan trouble.Bread fishes best in mild weather.

    Love to watch you guys after not fishing until 6 or so weeks ago since I was a teenager who went astray. My wife started fishing as well having never fished in her life and we are catching fish. She caught her first and second Carp yesterday. I caught my first and second last weekend and 6 more the next day. All on float!
    The bite alarms I don,t like but your ring on the line is cool.
    I use a cut cork between first ring and reel but of course they can fall off.
    Remembered it from my youth, I am now 62 and have come home to fishing.
    If you don,t have a cork open an old fashioned bottle of wine. Good excuse :-)
    Thank you for all this you are doing it is an inspiration to me.

    Wasp grub was a standard floatfishing for river chub bait many years ago .Also garden slugs.Apparently you had to split the slug open to reveal the white inside. Carp especially,will eat almost anything,so your slugs are worth a try

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use a Ryobi Avon rod.You can still get a similar model from Mal Storey fishing tackle in Kidderminster.England. For line I have found Pro-Gold to be very hard wearing.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    glad it worked for you

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes,as bread always stays soft,even in cold water,but remember all fish will be more lethargic in cold temperatures,so don't exect it to be as wild as summer.Good luck.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Carp eat anything we eat, so bread, providing you throw plenty in to get them feeding on it, will work. Can't speak for the individual fish you have seen. But anything is worth a try. You might need to bind it up with some porridge oats to make it stiffer, and mould it around a stone to anchor it on the river bed.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have absolutely no idea ? Do you mean before we hooked it ?: or how long to land it ? I would hazard a guess that at a regular day ticket water I would expect a bite in the first hour.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can only speak from my own experience, but if I was baiting up at a commercial water I would expect carp to be over the bait in about an hour. In the summer evenings are usually better as the carp move round the edge picking up the bait other anglers have thrown in after they leave. Worth staying on until the evening if you can.

    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think they will be old Ryobi Avons,they have a separate quivertip section.Don't think they are expensive.I saw a multi-tip version last year that was a bit under £50. I've had mine years,still catching.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Something flashy like a spinner I would guess. But you might need to add a weight to get it running slow and deep. Small spinner, not a huge pike thing. A red tag of wool on the back hook of a spinner is a good "switch-on" for Perch.

    No, we tried TV. They told us to go away and find a sponsor. So we decided to put them up on TH-cam so fishermen could watch them anytime they want,24/7.With TV, other than the occasional repeat once its gone, its gone.

    I don't go for big carp,I just go for any carp.That 35lb Common from the River Ebro was my biggest,but I'd have no qualms hauling in a 150 pounder on 30lb boat gear !!!

    Never heard of shelf life on it,but you have to keep it dry.I've had some 2 years !! so I've had no trouble with it if its dry. A 20/25kg sack lasts for ages,but I reckon you should try somewhere else to supply you,sounds like your contact just wants to get a special order.I pay less than £8 a sack.Check out animal feed suppliers.they should have pallets of it.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Never used them,but I have used wasp grubs,and they are like a giant maggot,but very soft.Personally I think there are a lot better baits for chub.Cheese is tops for me,lobworms,meat,and casters,in that order.

  • @TAFishing
    @TAFishing  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can't advise on a specific carp rod,there are lots out there.Some are like broom handles,fit to cast a real lump out of the county,so I would advise on around 1 3/4lb test curve if that helps.We just use Avon rods for our carping,close to mid range.we find it more than ample and a bit of fun.Your local tackle shop should advise you.Don't buy too cheap,it might seem like a bargain ,but £30 should get you something reasonable.

  • @TAFishing

    try soaking some dog biscuits to make them soft. I assume you are fishing floating bread crust on the surface and that's why it comes off ? Dog biscuits should be more spongy when soaked. You should be able to cast them further. Or try adding a float.

    I think in some countries they have taken over to the detriment of other species. Once in a water system they are difficult if not impossible to remove. They probably eat food that also affects other species considered better fishing.

    Thanks buddy. Hope you're getting good weather. Had a spell of great weather for about a week in Scotland with today being not so great. I've just started fishing in by the harbour in my area along a large riverside and was wondering what the best type of lure is that i should be using. I was also not sure whether I should be using weights on the end of my line. I believe the fish are perch and sea trout... I may be incorrect though. Thanks. Love the channel also. Keep up the great work!

    Brilliant idea ref the bobbins !!!! Nice to see the old John Wilson avon quivers being used (my fav rods) and did you have an old optonic on the go as well ??? They still have a cult following,especially amongst pike anglers.

  • @1989Brumo
    @1989Brumo 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It takes a really long time for carp to replace the scales. So we have to be cautious dealing with carp as anglers.
    That is why i always use a leader cord or some kind of tubing in front of the rig. It prevents the line doing damage to the carp when you try to get it in.

    great vid,,, have you ever used magic mushroom,, its brilliant compressed . The key equipment is a 12mm Seymo Lunch Punch (£4). Load it with 6-10 punches of bread . Press the Punch against your hand and gently compress the plunger to compact the bread Release pressure totally and push the plunger right down to reveal the bread mushroom

    Try using bread. Maybe the sweetcorn has been used too much and the fish are wising up to it.Or maybe get hold of some worms. If the corn is not working change. Or small pieces of luncheon meat bought from a supermarket.

    We have not deleted any of your comments Gary, you replied to someone about finding a cheap carp rod. Other than that we have not seen anymore comments come through? Not everyone can afford to use boilies, this is a simple and cheap method that has proved hugely successful given the significant amount of emails we have had come through from people who have used it with success. We are sorry it does not work for you, maybe try it when the weather is warmer and the carp are feeding better?

I dont have to worry about tiny bait fishing stealing the bait however. Would it be effective even with out baiting? Thanks

    I've tried to fish roaches and breams with sweetcorn (as I used to do when i was really young, I'm now 13) , but the fish don't seem to care or even notice it? Why doesn't it work anymore when it used to work? Do I have to boil the corn first? The place I used to fish in was brackish water and i now tested with corn in a freshwater river. Does that make any difference?
