I have been gardening for 50+ years. I have watched the personality of those who garden both living now, and those passed on. I cannot escape the thought that the garden reveals the soul of the person within. A beautiful soul craves and creates beautiful surroundings, beautiful sights, beautiful sounds, beautiful fragrances. Thank you all for sharing with the world.

All the people interviewed were so lovely. Mr. Townsend had such a sweet spirit about him, encouraging young people to garden. As this was filmed in 1995, it makes me sad to think most of these people are probably gone from this earth and their beloved gardens 😞. Hoping they have a celestial plot or two somewhere 😇

I live in Brisbane Australia which has wonderful flora and fauna . It is quite loud in comparison to England's softer sounds and colours. Most birds here are extremely noisy. I do miss the sounds and scents of fresh mown grass and the seasonal changes .Watching these sorts of videos still makes me homesick , even after almost fifty years.

Formality - at least, where gardens are concerned - is not OUR style. We English tend to be a Hobbity sort of folk, really, and so prefer the Cosy and the Comfortable and the Natural to the Clinical and the Geometric and the Contrived.

We have a vegetable garden and a flower garden, and she's helping me learn how to garden. I'm planning a butterfly garden for my section. We already have a healthy variety, but I want to see if I can attract more since we live in a great environment for them.

If you are still wanting a 'fix' of English cottage gardens et al then do watch 'Gardeners World' by the BBC introduced by Monty Don and his two Golden Retrievers. A great antidote to anything!
Also don't forget to look out for the Chelsea Flower Show in May. Many back episodes here on TH-cam of both. Make a cup of tea, sit back and enjoy. xx

Inspiring. I promised the fellow I bought my home from that I'd keep the peonies planted by his wife in the 1060s. 🐥🐦 Subject: My feelings as a 'BIRD'
🐥 If I am a bird, if I have very strong wings, if I have powerful eyes, if I have a talented mind, if I am so bright, if I can fly as much as high, if I can live without water and food, if I have a good strength and courage, if I have a beautiful mind, if I have as many as singing tunes with melodious sounds, and if I have the ability to fly easily from one country to another country,
As a bird my paradise will be the earth where I can achieve full of happiness and pleasure. There will be no one to hurt me. I may live as per my wish without any worries and sadness.
I will have the fullest freedom to fly where I want and enjoy what I need.
God has created the birds with full of freedom filled happiness. Birds comes as precious gifts of God.
If I am a bird, I would fly from places to places and enjoy the beauty of the nature with endless happiness and pleasure.
Birds are glorious and they are gifted with full of freedom. Then, why God doesn't want to turn me out from human nature to a BIRD.
I prefer to be a bird more than a human being.

I love cottage gardens and enjoy gardening its a very inspirational past time but I've found that grass has always been against me in gardens and need trimming a couple of times per week to stop it going to seed and trying yo run a muck spoiling the look of a well maintained garden, the borders can always been grown very cheaply because neighbours miss dead heading their own and this allows a a good border turn to seed.

I wonder what it's like in winter. Do they have to pull out all the dead stuff when it freezes?

Lovely but unfortunate, once again, that the gardens are south when midlands and north have wonders to behold.
