In 1974 I reloaded my issued Colt Detective Spl w/a speedloader in a gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects and can attest to how well they work in a real world fight.

Speed-strips come in pretty handy if you do "shoot 2, load 2." Which is basically like a tactical reload for a revolver.

At this point why not EDC a sawn off break open shotgun? Revolvers were retired because they were absolutely unacceptable for modern situations firearms users find themselves in. They got people killed enough as it is with old fogeys in PD's being hold outs. But these speed strips would absolutely get people killed, no question. I mean any firearm is better than the gun you don't have - but shit on a stick this is stupid.
@@bashkillszombies.... I would never do "revolver only" carry. Meaning that I'm a semi-auto guy first and foremost and a semi-auto pistol (preferably a Glock)that holds 10 rounds or more will always be my first choice if I carry only 1 gun. But if I carry a back-up gun then a little snub-nose revolver works well in that regard.

@@bashkillszombiesLack of capacity getting people killed for police and combat uses sure, but civilian defensive shootings are _exceedingly_ rare to be drawn out fights. Almost always a personal defensive shooting happens in a matter of seconds with only a handful of shots fired, reloads on even low capacity guns are exceedingly rare, good since most people don't even carry a reload anyway.
Even when dealing with multiple assailants, just the threat of being shot is enough to work through intimidation, and where it doesn't usually dropping just one guy causes the others to flee. And if a whole group of guys disregard their survival instincts and all jump you at the same time, it doesn't matter what your capacity is, you're screwed anyway cause you can only shoot one at a time unless you have super human reflexes.
Only if you get in a drawn out fight, people attacking you one at a time and not all together in a rapid rush, does capacity matter and that is such a hilariously rare situation that you have to practically set it up yourself.
Off the top of my head the only instance of that I can think of in recent times is Kyle Rittenhouse, and despite facing off an entire angry mob, and having to shoot three seperate people... his total rounds fired were 8. And how often do you see yourself intentionally getting involved in an angry riot like Kyle?
People seem to have this Hollywood mindset of what their grandiose defensive last stand is going to be like, but in reality actual practical situations are quick, dirty, and rarely does capacity matter.
The bigger problems with snub nose revolvers like this over an autoloader are actually being accurate, their sights are usually shit, and the heavy double action trigger pull compounds your aiming difficulty by wanting to jerk the gun to the side.
So in the end, yes a revolver is a disadvantage over an autoloader, but from a purely practical standpoint, as long as you practice enough to get used to the heavy trigger, it's not really a meaningful one.
Back when I carried a 357 snub I carried these speed strips. They are very handy an sit flatter in the pocket that the cylinder reloader. They also work amazing for a quick 2-3 round top off.
Definitely a good way of doing it but slower and more involved than speedloaders

TT: I have both the speed strip (same company as yours) and speed loaders (same company again as yours). You are right both serve certain roles. The speed loaders are easier to deal with but when you carry 2 to 4 in your pocket it get pretty bulky and sometimes the handle turns releasing them in your pocket. The strips lay flat in the pocket. Great video.

Im a die hard snubnose guy. I own glocks, 1911s, even a five-seven. Still carry my s&w mod.37 over all of them. Usually running a single speed loader along with 10 loose rounds in my left hand jacket pocket and 3-4 speed strips in my right side chest pocket. Definitely a time and a place for all 3.
Only thing id say, is get some 5 shot speed strips, or just load 5 into these.. retaining the strip for a single round is a massive waste of time when you could easily just have a few loose rounds in your pocket.

It might be useful to go over partial reloads, for when there is a possible "lull" in the situation and all the ammunition in the revolver has not been expended. That is a situation where the speed strip has a considerable advantage.
How do you eject only the empties?
@@vintagemotorcyclerepair4052 (If not using moon clips) Basically opening the cylinder while keeping the barrel pointed downward then pressing the ejector rod partially up, which will extract the rounds and empty casings alike. Then you allow the extractor rod to retract and the rounds due to their weight will follow it when it retracts. The empty brass casings will remain partially extracted. You can then sweep them out of the cylinder with your hand and replace them with the ammunition from the speed strip.

Nice thing about speed strip is that you don't have to reload all the rounds . If you fire just 2 shots , you can just reload those 2 shots.

I have 2 snubbies, a Taurus titanium and a Ruger Lcr. The speed loaders are not reliable for either one. The LCR Hogue grip is larger and gets in the way more than the Taurus grip but the speed loaders work way better in the Security 6 and other full size revolvers I have. I am definitely on the fence about the 6th round in the speed strip. I find it better to just carry another speed strip. In my training, I have always been taught to drop the mag, or loader and go for the next full one. Also, the packs of hollow points I purchase most of the time come in packs of 20. So 5 rounds in each loader makes for even number used and no remainers left on the box to lose or accidentally throw away. I also found that when I practice moving and reloading, I am faster with 5 rounds vs having the sixth one get in the way sometimes or throw my brain off for those ever important split seconds thinking of I loaded wrong and cause me to look down too long during my reload, taking my eyes off the target. Snubbies rule! Never had a jam or a misfire. On a side note, if anyone is having trouble with finding a comfortable (and comforting lol) holster, I have made several using Sicky brand holsters and Blackhawk tech grip. I found a leather supply store that carrys belt clips so I measure where I want the clip and the cant I like, mark the 4 holes and use a leather punch. Then, I use the plastic piece from a roofing nail to put on the rivet that is on the inside of the holster to give it more surface to hold clip on, and punch it together. These make for a lightweight, sweatproof holster that sticks to your skin or underwear and the belt clip keeps it from sliding back and forth, up and down. Carry on folks.

Thanks. Now I figured out why this was so awkward for me to use. I shoot right handed but I’m actually left handed. I was trying to use the strip in my left hand. Wheel kept spinning. I will have to practice a lot to make using my right hand more natural.
Yeah with a wheel gun you wanna reload with your firing hand to be able to stabilize the gun better as you're saying.

There’s an important difference that you left out; the HKS does not work with a 642 that has the original grips. They work fine with the Hogue Monogrip that you have (I have the same thing) but won’t work with originals unless you cut them.
I went back to the original grips because they are easier to carry and just go with speed strips.

I've carried them many times loose in a pocket, and they were fine. Can they pop out...yeah sure but I haven't had too much trouble.

Retired LEO here that carried a revolver for years back in the day.. Nice explanation on speed loaders vs strips. I will say that no one that carries a revolver empties cylinders that way using two hands. It's a single hand operation using the weak hand while the gun hand is reaching for ammo. @@TerriblyTactical I can't understand why you say that. It is much quicker and and tactically more sound to reload rather than your method. Plus it's still the preferred training method. If you're at the range it doesn't matter, but in a real life situation you want to be able to reload as quick as possible and still keep situational awareness of the threat.
