Steven defeated a team that has his primary weakness as its main focus type with both a mega sharpedo and kyogre. That is a true champion right there. I doubt he will win it all but I’m on team Steven still. Favorite champion of all of them, uses two of my three favorite types, and is just a badass character. As Champion of the Hoenn region, I cannot allow you to advance any further. Any threat to this world, no matter how small, is one that is too great to be taken lightly. Prepare yourself Archie... This. Ends. Here."
I think one of the most surprising parts of the battle was that Mightyena was able to do a DECENT amount of damage with Crunch on a defensive monster like Aggron. I know STAB + Life Orb but I was shocked a Rock/Steel Pokemon was taking THAT much damage!
With a _whish_ Skarmory swooped down over the desolate island. As the waves beat against the shore, Steven Stone stepped out unto the empty sandbar that was all that remained of the once vibrant town of Dewford. Every building had been smashed, even the Gym in ruins, with shards of metal embedded in the sands and pieces of wood of every size washing up with every minute. The water level had risen so high, water sloshed down into what remained of Granite Cave with every wave. Steven stood silently, awash in memories of searching for stones deep within that cave, of first meeting the Champion, of the people who'd once lived here. There were no words for this tragedy, nothing that could be done. Skarmory nudged against Steven's arm, his metal beak clicking as if to offer sympathy. Behind him, a great sound came in with the tide, prompting them to turn. From out of the sea, it came, the great blue body pulsing with light that illuminated the ancient symbols upon it: Kyogre, the primordial master of the seas, and upon its back, the villain himself. "Ahoy there, ya silver-haired pipsqueak!" Archie called out. "Ha! I'd hoped Maxie would drag his cowardly hide out here to face me, defend his precious land, but here you are, instead! Who in the blazes are ya?" Steven drew himself up. "Steven Stone, heir to the Devon Corporation, once and future Champion of Hoenn ... and friend to the people of the town you destroyed here." "Bwahahahaha! Oh, yes, they were a stubborn lot. That pointy-haired little surfer boy ... I gave them all fair warning to flee, but he insisted on fighting! Gave me a good scrap, too, but no match for me!" Steven held his arm out. "What have you wrought, Archie? Is this your dream? Is this what you've fought for?" "As a matter of fact, it is!" Archie said. "This place, ugh, what an eyesore it used to be! People exploiting the land and sea, ruining the habitats of the Pokémon here, and for what? A bunch of worthless rocks?" His eyebrows lowered and his mouth curved into a smile worthy of a Gengar. "Truth be told, I'm glad yer here, runt! Devon Corporation ... all the worst looters alive gathered into one place, sucking the blood from this world for your greed. How dare you? I can't wait to bring my plan about. Once the sea rises up and reclaims what is rightfully its own, that industrial cesspit in Rustboro will be nothing but a bad memory!" Steven stepped closer. He faced the nightmare of all that dwelt upon the land, a super-ancient Pokémon that existed to drown the world beneath the waves, but he showed no fear. "No," Steven said. "Your evil ends here." He touched the keystone he carried, feeling the power surge from the Metagrossite, preparing itself to be unleashed. Skarmory clacked its beak at Archie, wings spread like swords ready to slice him apart. "Hahahaha! Well, then! Let's see if the little Devon runt has a bite to match his bark!" Archie spread his arms, and Kyogre responded. The sea pulled back, leaving the land beneath it momentarily bare, and then resurged as a tsunami rose up, barreling towards the shore in a wave of destruction, Archie riding Kyogre at the apex like a madman. Steven leaped unto Skarmory, and the pair shot into the sky, clearing the island before Kyogre's tidal fury struck home. The crash of water striking sand seemed to fill the world, the spray shooting dozens of feet into the air, the winds making Steven's hair blow in every direction. In response to the super-ancient beast's call, a storm kicked up, thunderbolts striking the sea all around, lighting up the night in every direction, and filling the empty island with the crash of thunder. Archie came back around, still riding Kyogre, looking up at Steven with terrible promise. Steven's eyes went to the sand on the beach, all the rocks everywhere, and an idea came into his head. As calm as always, holding unto Skarmory with one hand, Steven threw the first ball into the fray, and the battle began.

Steven might have won the battle but he didn't dominate it, it was a very neck-to-neck fight like if that muk went for curse 1 more time and that scarmory died to the burn next turn.......
Hey Silph, I had an idea. If they don't meet in bracket, could we see an exhibition match between Archie and Maxie? I think it'd be really cool to see those two finally clash, just like it was really cool to see Cynthia go against Lance
Both of these trainers have a massively powerful Uber Pokémon (Kyogre and Mega-Metagross) who could absolutely tear through the opposing team. In addition, they each have one Pokémon that, while from a lower tier, is a huge threat to the opposing team: Cradily and Mega-Sharpedo. Much of this battle is going to be won or lost based on the sets of those four Pokémon, and when they're deployed. Steven's best chance of winning, I think, would be to switch Cradily in on a predicted Water attack from one of Archie's two big threats, and get that crucial Special Attack boost that will allow it to OHKO Sharpedo and severely wound Kyogre. If Mega-Sharp has Ice Fang, this will be much more difficult. Keeping Cradily in reserve might also make Archie paranoid enough to not use a Water type attack when he needs to, which gives Steven that much more protection. Whatever the case, Mega-Metagross should be saved for dealing the finishing blow to Kyogre with Zen Headbutt, as he'll need the fast and powerful Mega for the rest of Archie's team, too. Entry hazards will also be important for Steven, as he isn't scared of Toxic Spikes, but weakening Archie's team a little could give him a crucial KO and turn the tide of the match. I suspect this will also be a battle of weather, as Excadrill will only be really useful with Sand Rush up, and denying Archie the rain is of crucial importance. Archie definitely holds the advantage, due to Steven's team not dealing with Water well, but I hope that the Champion has just the right sets and moves to take this battle! Edit: HOLY! This was by far the best match of the Hoenn Tournament so far, a battle worthy of a championship match! When Steven eliminated Kyogre and Mega-Sharpedo so skillfully, I thought there was no way that Archie could make a comeback, but then Muk pulled the biggest surprise of the match and made itself Archie's MVP, AND THEN Excadrill pulled another reversal at the last moment. Unbelievable! My only disappointment here is with the music. I know that the Kanto Tournament didn't start using the Sun/Moon Elite Four theme until there were only eight trainers left in the main bracket, but I wish it had changed a round early, here. The standard battle theme has gotten really old after hearing it almost all the way through Johto and the huge first round of Hoenn. These battles would be greatly improved if the least interesting and epic music wasn't used more than all the good ones combined.
I don’t really care about the music too much especially in GEN seven which has the worst soundtrack out of any Pokémon game however if this was in GEN six it would be a different story because there are some really good battle songs and some really bad ones
Yes, this was a very good match. I'm surprised Muk got KO'd at the end there after 2 defense raises with over half HP. They should show us their builds for these battles. I'm interested in knowing how they run their mon.
Steven and Wallace are both among the six trainers who automatically got into Round 2, without needing to win any battles. Round 2 is now starting, with Steven fighting Archie--the winner of the first battle in Round 1.
Usually it goes 2-4-8-16-32, well we didn't have 32 trainers, we have 26. So Silph had to eliminate 10 of them prior to the round of 16. What he did was auto advance the 2 champions and the elite 4. And have 10 matches among the remaining 20 to eliminate 10 of them. So yeah, what we had saw was the 10 preliminary matches.
I find it really sad that Steven did not predict so many switches. Especially the second Zen Headbutt was thrown in the wind and shuld have been managed waay differently.
He's always had someone enter get seated in round 2, there are odd number of trainers and if we knew the matchups in advance, people would start speculating way too much and be getting into long TH-cam comment fights about it. You'll know who participates in the tournament by following the True Power series where he covers all trainers. The only surprise entries, he stated during the beginning of the tournament, were Archie, Maxie, and Zinnia. TL;DR Everyone in the tournament currently has had an episode dedicating to ordaining their best team except for Archie, Maxie, and Zinnia who were announced early at the beginning of the tournament as special surprise entries.
@@SilphSpectre My thought process is, that showing the brackets before the battle would put the match more into perspecitve in the tournament. This way it would feel less like an isolated battle. Anyway, thank you for providing an answer and respecting my personal view :)
Nope, I just ran it through Smogon damage calc, the only way Muk could've gotten a kill was assuming it had Fire Punch. But the only moves I saw were Curse and Shadow Sneak--- SS at +3 Attack is a max of 36.8% and Excadrill was sitting over 40% health. At +3 defense, Muk at full HP is a 2 KO 98% of the time. Muk was not full HP. 1 Hit would've put Muk in red for a pretty healthy Cradily, less speed, and a less than accurate Gunk Shot. It would have to survive anything Cradilly does and then hit Gunk Shot. It might've been a more exciting end but it's unlikely Archie would've won from that move alone.
Just did a damage calc.. that last earthquake (146 damage) is the highest possible damage an adamant excadrill can do to a +2 in def max hp muk.. what a lucky turn out for steven! The possible damage would be 122-146, if only muk survives that, i dont think cradily can do much against the muk
Steven miight have won but Archie was the superior battler in this one. He played smarter at just about every turn. Just goes to show you how much of an impact team composition and synergy has on a battle.

Now we'll finally know, if Steven would have stopped Team Aqua in the games
its kind of funny that Steven's main types (steel and rock) are weak to both team magma and team aquas main types (fire and water)
You know the match is gonna be intense when it's more than 10 mins long xD
Oh boy, this was intense! Does this mean that without the main character's help Steven would have had it tough?
Where's the music at the end of the video from?
What a fight this is going to be!
This match was amazing! It had everything!!!!
Muk could use Curse once more. This was crucial!
That muk should have done a third curse for the win
Same. I said when he hit Skarm with the Shadow Sneak "That's actually good for Steven."
Weoooowww! Hell of a battle!!
I hope Steven wins.
Had muk gone for a third curse, things wouldve ended differently
I think that was really stupid on his part not to do it. I think maybe he was worried about a crit but still he absolutely could have done it.
@@ty-hr7jg you can't crit through burn, he could've went for a third Curse
@@ОрханСулејмани Really? I did not know that! Thanks for the information
My booooi, ayyye this is a good show of battle, sooo nice!!!!
Great battle!
someone get this man 70k or more subs he deserves it
Just did a damage calc.. that last earthquake (146 damage) is the highest possible damage an adamant excadrill can do to a +2 in def max hp muk.. what a lucky turn out for steven!
The possible damage would be 122-146, if only muk survives that, i dont think cradily can do much against the muk
Steven miight have won but Archie was the superior battler in this one. He played smarter at just about every turn. Just goes to show you how much of an impact team composition and synergy has on a battle.
