I didn't realise I needed this video till you posted it
exactly how i feel
yes
That's what we love to hear mwahahahah
all a part of NC's dastardly plan.
same 😂
'HOW YOU GET ORGANIC AVOBENZENE' I'm deceased yooo
LMAO 😂
Absolutely Crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
You should definitely try the Asian/Japanese sunscreens. They go on pretty much clear and must are SPF 50 +, which is recommended. Which is better than the SPF 30. Also UVA rays are the ones that causes most skin cancers since it penetrates deeper into the skin, as opposed to UVB which involves more superficial damage (Sunburns). As such, Looking at both the SPF rating for UVB rays (30 vs 50) and the PA +++ rating for UVA rays (plus signs) is also important. Most Japanese brands include the PA ratings, while some US brands are late to the party.
LeAlyk do you have any suggestions? I have a Korean one but it's super ashy
The one I have is Biore UV perfect milk
LeAlyk Yes! I love Japanese sunscreens. I especially love sunkiller. It has no white cast and alcohol. It's for sensitive skin.
***** try Amazon. Or an Asian market like H Mart
I love Korean/Japanese sunscreens. You can also get them at ohlolly.com and sokoglam.com.
Thanks for the video. We dark skinned people tend to understimate the importance of sunscreen 😂 Also we tend to look ashy with sunscreen haha
Cancer doesn't discriminate sis.
dandilyonz cassandra I thought the same way, but this current red itchy burn on my arm has made my opinion otherwise lol. I don't know if the sun is getting hotter or what, but it's not like it used to be.
dandilyonz cassandra Dark skin loves can get Cancer just like we can get sunburn. It's rare, but it happens. I've been burned too many times.
dandilyonz cassandra for people living in tropical islands or anywhere near the earth equator, I know that the sun rays are extremely strong and can be very damaging to the skin because they are exposed to it everyday. You are definitely right that melanin protects from the sun, but unfortunately it's not a full-proof guarantee 😟 Even if it's not cancer (we have enough of that already...😒), I know that it can cause hyperpigmentation. Unfortunately I have not been blessed with a gorgeous dark skin so I stick to my ashy, greasy sunscreen when I go back to Martinique.
dandilyonz cassandra lol wtf melanin isn't enough to protect you from aging. It doesn't hurt anyone to wear sunscreen.
That "I'm feeling discouraged" moment was SO REAL! Lol! That's exactly how I felt at my friends Mary Kay party trying out the samples. Nothing worked!
*we too broke to have these tastes* lmao I'm deadddddd😂😂😂
omg for $65 dollars I better be able to fly into the sun!! Were too broke to have these tastes!!!! girl u need to do standup or something my sides hurt from laughing
Haha 65 is the cheapest one in Brazil
LM AO no u
The Murad one even made your skin look nicer! 😮
photoshop in a bottle
IG-worthy sunscreen LOL
I didn't even know there were sunscreens that weren't thick and white. As pale as I am, sunscreen always proves that I CAN look even paler. And gosh do my acne scars GLISTEN in the sun with it on. But I also need like SPF 50 reapplied every half hour, so I'll stick to low end.
Tracie Irene okay Becky :)
123 456 no need to undermine people's comments
Tracie Irene Really? We have plenty of gel and thin sunscreens in India. We have our fair share of thick gloopy ones too, but a search on Amazon shows good non thick sunscreens easily.
+123 456 what are you so mad about exactly
123 456 What's your problem lmao
First thing I did was look in the description box for a link to Evelyn's shirt!! lol ; Thanks Evelyn!
**sings** this is ALLLLLLL BLACK!
😂😂
Afro Khadisiac me too !!!!!
Yes, I'm too broke for the Murad. It is my favorite sunscreen and primer. I absolutely love it and it doesn't break me out. Get the large one for $80.....all the coins gone 💸💸
Try a Japanese sunscreen. they are exactly the same texture and so much cheaper. Around 9 dollars with free shipping on ebay. Biore makes good one. Really idk when will people realize that japan already figured it out and they never use greasy and heavy sunscreens like the ones in the west.
reem h what brand do you suggest?
Get the Biore UV watery essence, Skin Aqua UV Milk, Nivea Sun gel, etc. Those are all great Asian sunscreens imo. Esp the skin aqua
Evelyn's reaction to the Murad was my reaction to the sample I received from Sephora. And then I went to purchase from Sephora and saw that price tag and fell out like Karlie Redd did when she saw that engagement ring from Lyfe. I use a Korean sunscreen called Misha Sun Essence. It's spf 45 and PA+++, it does leave me a little shiny but I just set it with a translucent powder on my non-makeup days and it solves the shiny skin problem.
Hutch cosign on the misha! for 12 bucks it does the job without the ash.
Once when I was like 9 one of my white friends let me use her sunscreen and in my head I'm like "does this girl not realise I'm going to change hue" but I needed some so I thought aaahhhhhhhh fuggit
It went on like lotion! It didn't make me purple (or low-key silver, I go silver). I was shook.
Do you remember what sunscreen it was 😳😳
YALL SHOULD START A PODCAST FRFR OMG ID BE SO HAPPY
Bria Younger please
I second that!
1. I love y'all and the work you're out here doing.
2. that coola mineral sunscreen was straight committing a crime against melanin.
3. mitigate the price of the Murad sunscreen by getting as many samples of it as these stores will let you walk out the door with (usually at least 3 per store).
Also, if they make the sample, use it within a week; if it's pillow packed/pre-packaged, use a pin to make a hole and use it that way. these things can lose efficacy when exposed to air long-term. ❤✌
nyasha patrice thanks for the advice
When Evelyn looks up & says "I'm discouraged" it was so adorable but I think a tiny little bit of my heart broke seeing her look so crestfallen!
"i feel like glossier makes makeup for people who don't need makeup" truuueee
LMAO I'm here for Evelyn and the laughs she gives me.
I better be able to fly into the sun.....😂😂😂😂😂
That part had me too tickled! 😂😂😂
Kaywaynephotos i know thats right!🙄
My favorite is sunscreen is Murad as well it took me years to find something that worked with my skin type and color. Hate the $65 price tag but if you have a Health Saving Account with your employer you can get reimbursed or use the HSA debit card to purchase it from any store that sales it, (most companies use the cards only). I brought it at Ulta(with my coupon) and Sephora with no problem.
I LOVE sunscreen...in order for sunscreen to be effective 1/2 tsp needs to be applied to the face and neck. I'm paper white so I don't have a problem with applying 1/2 tsp, so not sure if this would effect the ashy-ness for dark skin tones. Also, I looked at the ingredients for the Glossier sunscreen because it looked promising but it contains orange peel oil...usually anything citrus degrades in the sunlight causing it to be phototoxic.
This was HILARIOUS! lol @ 6:28 The Murad results was soooo nice, good coverage without the greasy or ashy look.. but the price though *cries*
Try a Japanese sunscreen. they are exactly the same texture and so much cheaper. Around 9 dollars on ebay. Biore makes good ones.
I got a sample of their City Suncreen and it was so nice I damn near cried when I looked at the price 😭
Google User nah , they leave ur skin shiny
Bobby Shmurda
It’s better to just put mineral powder on a shiny face than spend a whole 65$ lmao…
I actually watched this video yesterday. I cast it as a part of a long que to my TV as I washed dishes and watched TH-cam videos. Needless to say I enjoyed this video so much that I remembered to come back and say so and to thank you for the video. But yall have also caused me to budget for ONE MORE EXPENSIVE THING for my impending trip to Costa Rica! Now to sign up on the Murad website in hopes I can catch a sale before my trip. Great video ladies.
"WE TOO BROKE TO HAVE THESE TASTES!!!"
tell am bo!
when you two make a video it makes my day...yall are soo funny!!!
The Murad really is that good. You eat ramen fourteen days a month to afford it, but damn it is SO worth the $80 (the big one, I think the smaller one is $65).
amystubby are you fucking kidding me...FOR THE SMALL ONE 😡
I have the small one and a little goes a long way, it's lasted months and is gonna last even more months. Definitely worth the money
Narnicorn the small one is the one that's like 0.17 ounces or something around that right
Sam S 0.17 ounces for $65 ?! damnnnnn lol
G U lol don't worry it's not that insane! it's 1 oz for $65 and 1.7 for $80. The little .17 oz one is usually in kits but I've seen them sell on eBay for around $8
My favorite is Paula's Choice Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50. It's ~$16/150mL (on Amazon, not sure about drug store), does not leave a white/ashy mask, and is dry touch.
Nikki and Evelyn are my favorite combo..their humor and personalities are perfect together
"My favorite sunscreen is melanin ^_^" Nah black people, imma need us to stop with that 😂😂😂
Annmarie Grant exactly. Forever acting like we don't get skin cancer or get burned. I swear they have me thinking I'm the only black girl that burns under the sun for 5 minutes
Jayarie
You are.
petty wap 😂😂😂
Sequoiah Dreams I’m mixed and I never know whether I should protect my skin with SPF or not because of my vitamin D deficiency and my grey skin since I’m living in grey areas. But also I would like to protect my skin for hats UV rays.
But it’s true that darker skin are naturally more protected to sun than fair skins.
I can stay in direct sun for several hours without getting a sunburn, the last sunburn I had was when I was 6 or 7, since I was much more fair than now.
But I really easily tan. Don’t know if that’s bad or not
Annmarie Grant LOOOL, deadass
Literally in tears when they put on the UNSUN
Try Japanese or Korean sunscreens. They are cheap and amazing. I personally like sunkiller moisture plus.
The sunkiller perfect strong moisture is my fave, and it's so good under makeup and so hydrating. But for oily skin loads of dry matte products (and there are so many that if you have any allergies/things that break you out there will be something for you) exist. /r/asianbeauty on Reddit has huge numbers of suggestions
XXLYS Yes! I used to love and be active in that sub, and it was how I started getting into skincare. It is definitely helpful for people looking for information, I definitely recommend to start there if anyone needs help.
honestly, it's very hard to find truly matte asian sunscreens. The only ones i've come across are biore perfect milk, innisfree no sebum and to an extent etude house sunprise.
For dark skin?
Yes! I have dark skin and used to use the Murad until I discovered Asian sunscreens. The CosRx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream feel like a light moisturizer. The (2015) Biore Sarasara Aqua Rich Watery Essence or Watery Gel are pretty legendary and leave no white-cast/ashiness.
Murad is amazing and will last almost a year when used daily! Definitely worth it!
I missed these two! 😍😍😍
Missed y'all too!
Sunscreen does so much more than protect against sunburn, which WOC don't often suffer from. However we do suffer the other effects of damaging UV rays, dry skin, wrinkles, sun spots, hyperpigmentation. So sunscreen is so important. Thank you for posting this video! ❤️
physical sunscreens use zinc or titanium oxide which causes the ashy colour, while chemical sunscreens tend not to be ashy since they don't use those ingredients. Chemical sunscreens absorb the rays and break down quickly under the sun while physical sunscreen reflects the rays but are more prone to coming off in wet conditions or when you sweat a lot. I have a preference for physical sunscreens since chemical sunscreens can still cause pigmentation since it tends to warm up the skin.
I watched a multitude of these videos but immediately subscribed after watching this one. I don't know why I was sleeping on this channel.
Evelyn!! Your method of application for the unsun sunscreen looked like manual labour! Lol now i know to steer clear- can't be dealing with muscly fingertips ..!
Vroxzz Roxz not muscly fingertips 😂😂😂
Ok guys! I never used sunscreen...even though I knew better... until now that is. I entered my 30's and that thing Evelyn said about your face being 30 but your neck being 75 is no joke and so I'm making some efforts. That said I recently purchased Shiseido Oil free SPF 42 for about $35 CAD and it's not bad. Blends pretty well (as in no ash) and doesn't leave me looking like buttered chicken :) They did try to show me the Murad but the price had me clutching my wallet for dear life. I'l probably try it one of these days. Fun video! Thanks!
I laughed hard at 2:52. ❤❤
The "Oh no... oh nooo" made me lol! Dang, hilarious.
Okay, real talk. Dark skinned people... please be careful you don't become deficient in vitamin D. Black people in Great Britain tend to have difficulties getting enough vitamin D because it's so cloudy and dreary out there. Ya'll need more sun than most to be healthy. 🌞
I'm not black but I love learning about how different skincare/cosmetics affect ladies of all colours, and I love how informed and funny you guys are! :)
this was the most hysterical helpful video EVER!!! Jackie Aina recommended this video and I am not mad at it at all!! Thanks ladies. Im subscribing now! ... and buying that Murad.
evelyn's skin is so radiant and clear
Y'all the true heroes for doing this 😭
You guys are too cute! Love the exaggerated hand motions when you tried spreading the thick sunscreens haha!
Came from Jackie Aina's channel. Loving it!
Evelyn...your shirt.🗣️ WE NEEDS IT.
Noooooo! I've been avoiding the Murad for months, because broke. Now y'all like it and I've seen a demo so I really have no excuse 😭. I usually use Biore sunscreen, the Japanese version, but I ran out and didn't have time to wait for shipping so now I'm using one by cerave.
Chinaija buy the Sephora sun kit you get the murad one and the coverfx one in the set for like $25
I love how the two of you work together!
Hilarious AF! I was just trying to find out some info on sunscreens and hit gold with you two. More please.
Okay I commented previously before finishing the video but I just finished the video and this is exactly what we need on TH-cam! Y'all are so funny and lighthearted I really enjoyed this video
Aunt Jackie sent me and I’m glad she did you guys are so funny 😂
I’m feeling discouraged #notspon
I could see the daylong line for sensitive skin doing really well here. It has a gel-like consistency and absorbs suuuuuper fast.
I will sacrifice the extra 10 minutes it takes to rub in the zinc oxide just to avoid the irritation that comes with the chemical sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens make my skin burn!
I needed this video! You don't know how much everyone appreciates this!!!
Their skin is sooooo beautiful ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm so jealous.
I use organic products so I just had to embrace my lavender tint 😂😂😂
alison hilaire lmao...me too. I can't stand those damn mineral sunscreens, but it's the only ones I'll use.
I don't know if it's the same in the US, but in France where I live, organic sunscreens are always mineral. The ones that don't make you ashy have nano particles which are almost as controversial as chemical sunscreens...😟 So I just decided to go for the ashy/greasy look when I go back to my very sunny West Indian birthplace: La Martinique 😅
alison hilaire I am not sure about all organic sunscreens being mineral sunscreens here. The ones I use are non nano zinc based. I've been using foundation powder over mine to hide the grey tint, but I am not a huge fan of wearing makeup that often. Hopefully they will make something non toxic that doesn't leave a residue eventually.
Sherifah Arenstein Yes, crossing my fingers for that too 😉In some organic sunscreens, there is karanja oil which is supposed to have the ability to absorb UV rays. I thought about using it in France because I'm never really exposed to the sun here and the rays are not really strong. However in tropical islands, sunscreen is a must-have, especially since I have a complexion similar to Nikki's.
raspberry seed oil supposedly has 25 spf but i wouldn't dare to use it on its own.
You two are adorable. My son's skin tone is somewhere between the two of you. I've been encouraging him to wear sunscreen and he finally agreed. Now I just need to find one he'll use! This was very helpful, thank you. Just as an aside, I encourage you to seek out skin products without fragrance. In the long term it is damaging and can be sensitizing.
Which is the most mindful and gentle (least toxic, paraben-free etc) on the skin?
Cetaphil spf moisturizer with the purple top for your face is the absolute truth. For my body I use banana boat ultra defense sheer protect!
I was screaming laughing this entire video! You girls are hilarious 😂😂
I came all the way back to 'this video for 4:13. Nikki's reaction literally had me in tears. HOMYGAWD!!
Why do I have to watch this twice....so funny. "A woman set aside"☺
I watched this when it dropped and had to look for it because I just had my own purple ash experience after learning I need a sunscreen because of all the sun exposure I’ve been getting. Super helpful and still funny!!
Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide combined together is what's going to give you that ashy look. It's also what causes flashback.
DarkAndDandy and unfortunately those are the best ingredients to have lol sometimes I just forfit and tolerate the ash for the better ingredients . I've heard great things about Mira's but I don't see those two ingredients
I love you two. I was smiling the whole way. Plus, sunscreens never address the ashy factor and I'm always on the hunt for something that won't leave me looking like a ghost. "Universal tint"? Um...nope.
My favorite is EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 tinted (the tinted seems more to counter the mineral white cast than to give coverage). It's also ~$34 for 1.7 oz (vs. for example the Glossier which is the same for 1 oz).
"Don't tell me I like this!"
Not to sound like a hater but finally a glossier sunscreen review not done by a rep! Thank you so much!
I used bananaboat spray on sunscreen spf70 last summer and it doesn't work at all...I walked out looking like I light pastey black girl who'd never seen the sun before came back inside looking like a honey bronze skin tone I had to get a all new foundations 😂
Sunscreen only protects from sun damage like getting sunburned !!
that's not true. it depends on the sunscreen filters in the formulation and if enough is applied and reapplied as needed.
I have a masters in chemistry and work in a lab that also formulates sunscreen. I am telling you for a fact, the myth of sunscreen to avoid tanning is fake
Anna Lopez still got sunburn and I reapplied following the instruction
Anna Lopez Really? You do? Well, in your first comment you claimed that suncreen only protects from things like sunburn and not tanning, though that tells me you have no idea what a tan is. A tan is your body's natural reaction to try and protect you from the sun (hence why darker skinned people burn less on average since their body actively has that small layer of protection) but it is only needed should UVB rays actually penetrate the skin. Physical sunscreens reflect the UVB rays away from your body, thus meaning tanning is far less likely (tanning is just the first stage of a sunburn, it can't protect against the extreme if it can't protect against the basics). Chemical suncreens take in the UVB rays and usually convert them into different energy, usually heat hence why you might feel a bit warmer with a chemical suncreen on. Not only that but with the fact that you only said you had a Master's degree in Chemistry and not in say healthcare sciences, pharmaceuticals, cosmetology, or biochemistry, I'm having a hard time believing that you're qualified to actually formulate any type of skincare product.
I’m so glad you two did this video! Chemical sunscreens seem to work better for darker skins but aren’t as UVA protective (think cancer and hyperpigmentation), are bad for you (endocrine disrupters), kill off coral reefs and bad for the oceans. Mineral are better but how to find one for darker skins? Dermatologists recommend TWO different brands (cause UVA is not regulated in the US and most people don’t use enough). Also use at least 45 but 50 is better! I’d love to see you two demo the top rated: La Roche Posay facial mineral 50 (untinted), ultaMD mineral spf 40, ceraVe mineral SPF 50 facial, Missha sun block SPF 50, ( Asia uses the PA for UVA. It’s easy to find PA+++ but very difficult to find PA++++. Tony Moly has a sun oil at Sokoglam that is PA++++. Not the most expensive but still...). I need a couple to recommend to friends with darker skin!
I hope the clear ones actually work out in the sun though. I'll definitely be ashy at the beach if it means I'm more protected lol
Oh my god. You guys crack me uup! Like I could watch the two of you review honestly anything and you would have me rolling
"I'm feeling discouraged" 😂😂 !
This was such a helpful video, I actually searched for content on sunscreen weeks prior and couldnt find much that would help the darker skinned gal. Thanks for posting!
I love you two so much ❤️
I am here for my internet cousin Evelyn all day everyday!
I have to use sunscreen because even though I'm dark skin I have a very sensible skin and I have an allergic reaction to direct sunlight, so I have to mix my 100 SPF Neutrogena with whatever foundation or CC cream I'm using for me to be protected and not ashy...
Ah... yay! Excited you liked the glossier invisible shield! DEFF need to try the Murad one!
Try asian sunscreens. Theyre more cosmetically elegant and cheaper than murad. Maybe around glossier price or less
Yo, I'm watching these videos with a cold. Laughing so hard it helps me cough up the shot in my lungs! Thanks for the laughs & the great advice, even for a girl with 2A waves
I came here from Jackie aina but was laughing the whole time. Girl for $65 I'm flying in that sun whichu but if we die Ima leave a note that says murad made me do it lmfao
I love their relationship ! So glad I found this channel !
I'm allergic to chemical sunscreens so my only options are sunblocks that make me look like Casper.
btw Neutrogena sheer zinc spf 30 is not for you if you're darker than nc20. It made me white n greasy AF.
Greydrops I have the same problem :(
it didn't make me greasy but the ASH. better than other mineral sunscreens I've tried, but not by much.
Greydrops you should try Bare Republic sunscreen. It's a good mineral sunscreen that leaves no white cast. you can find it at Target for $15
Greydrops Lots of Asian physical sunscreen products exist. If you check /r/asianbeauty there's bound to be lots of recommendations.
XXLYS I have a hard time finding the ingredients list in english, but when I do they're usually a cross between chemical n physical. Also, the asian market enjoys whitening products even if it means a ghastly white cast lol.
Lorena M is it thick or does it feel light like something u could use everyday?
I highly highly recommend the Missha sunscreen or the Aveeno sunscreens. They never look ashy on me, and they're meant to melt into the skin. The Missha one has a couple different formulations depending on skin type so it never looks greasy. The Aveeno one takes a few minutes to absorb, but after it absorbs you fucking glow. It's beautiful. Plus they're both cheaper than the Glossier and the Murad, and they're a higher SPF. They've also been tested to they do hold up to their SPF claims. A lot of sunscreens don't hold up to their claims.
you really need to try Palmer's Shea butter sunscreen #melaninpoppin
you just put me on!!! lol I'm going to try it too cause I love palmers. thanks:')
l portis hmmm..... they have one? 🤔I want to try it.
michael50694 Yep and I love it 😍
Alexia Nicole The have it at Walmart 🙌😘
here's the link for those asking www.walmart.com/ip/Palmer-s-Cocoa-Butter-Formula-Eventone-Suncare-Cocoa-Butter-Moisturizing-Sunscreen-Lotion-SPF-30-8.5-fl-oz/43108619
Glossier is my fav hands down!!!! A little of it goes a long way so sometimes I mix it w/ a moisturizer.
"too broke to have those tastes" My life girl, my life!!
Another really good one is the avene ultra light hydrating sunscreen lotion. Even though it's a physical sunscreen it doesn't leave a white cast and it's about $25-30. Also the consistency it's like coconut milk and if you're oily it can essentially replace your moisturizer. Physical sunscreens are also a lot easier to use and safer in the long run since not many people really reapply sunscreen so you don't have the risk of the chemical breakdown
"I feel like glossier makes makeup for people who don't need makeup " Lol couldn't have said it better myself
I use SunBum SPF 50, it works like a charm and it blends into my skin (no ashy, white residue) Definitely recommend it ☺
Jackie Aina sent me, you guys are hilarious lmao
Murad really is that good and it lasts for a longer time than you would expect. It's like having a dry sunscreen and a clear light concealer in one.
Review Asian sunscreens!!
H2O+ has a good one. It's spf 30, goes on clear, not greasy looking & it's a facial moisturizer as well! A little goes a long way . About $35-40 at ulta or their .com. Before this, I used the Olay.
Also, don't forget to apply your spf to your neck, chest, and ears for optimal protection.
😂😂😂 this was hilarious
Evelyn I'm here for that t-shirt!!!
Jackie Aina sent me!
I think this video was very informative because you talked about the difference between mineral sunscreens and chemical sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens are not very safe for your skin, you can look up the active ingredients and make the choice for yourself/ your family. Also they might not be reef safe which is a huge concern because a lot of coral reefs are being lost due to sunscreen in the water coming off and bleaching the reefs.
I actually liked the way the tinted sunscreen looked on you guys, it seemed easy to rub in. (My color is closer to Evelyn's.) The sunscreen I have is a Beautycounter sunscreen and it leaves me ashy purple which is a price I choose to pay for sun protection. However, when it is done I will be purchasing tinted sunscreen from Raw Elements, and it is a mineral sunscreen that comes in a recyclable tin, so it is better for the environment as well as your body.
Jackie Aina sent me
I've been using the Neutrogena Clear Face SPF 55 for years and just lived with the ash since it didn't make me break out. But I'm gonna have to try that Ultra Sheer one. Thanks guys!
Sent here by jackie
I use SunBum for when I go to the beach. Every day I use Olay moisturizer with spf in it. If I know I'll be out in the sun longer than it takes to get to work & inside my bldg, I'll layer the Olay with the SunBum.
