SUMMARY, FROM VIDEO AND RESPONSES TO COMMENTS:
    1. Use a leafblower to blow out the AC vents. This may shoot ash out of the other vents.
    2. Scrub every surface in the car and vacuum.
    3. Use Superclean, diluted 4 parts water to 1 part Superclean. Scrub every surface in the car.
    4. Use Tide Cold Water Clean, diluted 4 parts distilled water to 1 part detergent. Use this on all fabrics in the car, including the headliner. Should be damp. Let sit 10-15 minutes.
    5. Pull out every seatbelt all the way and clip them so they remain fully out.
    6. Steam clean every surface in the car, including the seatbelt.
    7. Use mirofiber towels to mop up liquid, then let it all dry on its own.
    8. Use Intercon Activate Plus on all surfaces in the car.
Other tips: use tons of microfiber towels. Once it's dirty, saturated, wet, slightly soiled, move on to the next one. You must work very clean throughout this process.
Spray some superclean on a magic eraser, to clean the insides of the windows.
Clean the trunk the same way as the main body of the car.
Spray a little Intercon Activate Plus into the vents and leaf blow them, to force the cleaner into the passages.
    Replace your cabin air filter.
Use Citrol 266 diluted 10 to 1 to clean rubber seals and gaskets around door, etc.

Hi Scott, sorry to be long winded...
My sister bought a 2011 Chrysler 200 last year. I did a quick once over interior clean for her when she bought it. Today she asked me to clean it again, so I vacuumed it out and cleaned all the interior cloth seats and door panels with super clean 4:1. When I got to the dash itself it has almost like a black tar on it that literally took about 6 microfiber rags and super clean before it began to finally come off. The rags were completely black but after soaking them in a bucket with super clean for a few hours they washed up clean. I am thinking that the black tar on the dash was due to the fact I used a petroleum/silicon dash dressing last year and she smoked in the car everyday for a year without cleaning it and they somehow mixed together to form a tar, plus in the summer sun it probably baked into itself. Have you ever seen anything like this before? I was almost paranoid I was rubbing off dash paint or the dash material itself.
    Thank You

  • @mikewiremt

Scott, I need some pro help. I have a 2013 F150 Lariat, leather interior, and got a great deal because the PO was a smoker. I've had it for about 6 months and have done lots to clean it up (steam clean, ozone machine etc.) and it still mildly smells like cigarette smoke. The dealership ran a cleaner on the HVAC system and I smell no smell from any vent, I've done multiple cleanups on the interior carpet and plastics, seatbelts etc. (per your video) and the remainder of the smell is coming from the headliner. I recently vacuumed and then sprayed the headliner fabric with 4:1 Tide cold water, used my steamer (McCulloch MC1385) to help penetrate the fabric and fibers, and that helped until it dried out, and the smell came back. I've also dropped the headliner and sprayed the metal, back of the headliner and parts inside with a 10:1 mix of water and detergent, but maybe I didn't do a good enough job. Citrol? Activate Plus? Thoughts and suggestions would be very helpful - thank you!

air leaf blow everything including the hvac vents
    then
    vaccum everything including the headliner
    then
spray the chemical super clean diluted 4:1
    then
spray the chemical tide liquid laundry cold water clean diluted 4:1
    then
    steam clean everything
    then
    vaccum everything including the headliner
    then
spray the chemical Intercon cleaner activate plus (for up to moderate meaning up to a 5 scale organic smells like cigs)
    then
spray the chemical citrol 266 diluted 10:1 (for the rubber seals kills organic smells like cigs)
    then
use magic easers sprayed with super clean on the inside of all the windows
however, you didnt mention what to you use when the car is an out right 10 on your bad cigs smell scale? thank you once again for taking the time to make and post your videos.

Scott,You are the best! Love all your videos but this one really hit home.
    I
have been trying to quit this nasty habit for 2 years. one of the
techniques I have been using to quit has been the love for my car an
attention to detail that I have always had.
I am an enthusiast of a 14 old car that has never been smoked in. The 2 years I have owned it I have never smoked in it.
    This
video just shed some serious light on not only what it does to your car
but what it does to your body. The amount of time and money people will
spend on smoking and getting rid of that stench in our cars Is
reversible in a car, but not in your body!
    To anyone watching his
videos, he Is genuine or "transparent" and in his world and ours will
help us all to keep our cars clean!! thanks Scott.

The thing is that an ozone machine is still just removing the symptom (the smell) while leaving behind all the ash, tar, and residue. Scott's method is actually cleaning and removing it all.
Now for most people just removing the smell is good enough, but others may want to remove any trace of it to the extent possible.

Scott. You mentioned the cabin air filter as a source but what about the air ducts in the dash and the return ducs for recirc mode? I mean smokers smoke builds a film over time and in the case of this car 3 years is a long time for even the thinnest film build up? I remember seeing some kind of foaming agent that was injected thru the vents that would try to clean if I can use that word. I would say that if a source of continued smoke persists air ducts could be another potential source. My 2 cents.

    • @davidturner1079
      @davidturner1079 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly this.
Smoke permeates. Yes, soft surfaces are impacted, but so are cabin filters, cabin air channels, even behind the door panels. This is why ClO2 or Ozone is necessary as a last step. As an air fluid, it can get to places (like behind the door panel) that he's NOT going.
Yes, he's right about everything he mentioned, but it's not enough. Not nearly. It's no disrespect to him, but it is a fact.

Christie Kahlig-Davis he uses a mcculloch 1375 steamer (pictured in the video) and he also made a video on how to clean headliners. You can use a dual action polisher with a microfiber pad on it and just agitate that way to save yourself some time and hard labor or you can use a brush and mop up with a microfiber towel afterwards.

Do you do anything special to catch the ash that comes out of the vents? I was thinking putting a damp rag over the vents you aren't blowing air into, would be a good trick. So it doesn't settle somewhere else.

thats a cool idea!..yes i try to catch the ash in small plastic bags but its also the first thing i do before a very deep cleaning so even if some ash blew into the car i will get it during the deep cleaning cycle...but i love how your mind works:)...thanks for the comment and support

Have you tried an ozonator? A decent one with plates will cost around $125, but they kill all odors.

    • @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343
      @dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343  6 ปีที่แล้ว

a deep cleaning is needed before using any ozone machine because the source of the odor has to be removed first before the ozone machine even has a chance to work..i would say about 70% of my clients call me after they used someone else with a ozone machine and yet i remove the odor vs the other guys...go figure:)...but i will definitely look into the machine you talked about..thanks my friend:)

@@dallaspaintcorrectionautod8343 : Scott, I'm semi-self quarantined, and I'm watching your videos. I've been a lawyer for over 30 years now. But I love to clean and see IMMEDIATE amazing results. : ) Immediacy and satisfaction of muscular action as compared to brain-hurting thought, exercising judgment, advising clients, and lots of hard work behind the scenes finally evolving into a courtroom drama with the hope of victory. And when victory is achieved it is often short-lived because there is yet another mountain to climb. And so it begins. What a joyous thing you bring to people. A nasty vehicle brought back to a new life. Gives us hope. Thanks for what you do. I hope you still find moments of great joy and purpose in your work.
