      Amen to that 😅. (Although one time I did see a clip of "Louise Jefferson" doing a neat imitation of Mae's walk and type of outfit -- she had it down pat!! 😅)

    It's amazing that Mae West remained a star so many years without any films after 1943 and very little TV work. She made such an indelible impression that the public couldn't forget her, like Garbo.

    • @chrisn7259
      @chrisn7259 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Don't forget that during that time away from movies she appeared in stage plays and in a hugely successful nightclub act. She also made records. She kept her hand in show business just enough to stay in the public's mind.

    When the interviewer asked which type of men she liked the best. Great, big muscular men, intelligent men or handsome men, she said "yes". I died.😀 She was so, so ahead of her time. Thank you Mae & Red RIP.

    I always read about this appearance, but it never was included in any of the Red Skelton collections.
    Such a treat to finally see it. Mae was sharp as a tack and stole the show. It is a shame that this was the only TV comedy sketch show that she ever appeared on, because she was terrific. All those years on the stage showed. What a pro!

    I won a rhinestone Mae West brooch at auction a few years ago. My two favorite Mae West lines:
    "I used to be snow-white, but I drifted."
    "Keep a diary. Someday it may keep you."

      Mae West is the most talented and gifted entertainment performer in history. She became famous writing hit plays on Broadway...then when she got the offer to go to Hollywood, she wrote the entire movie script for almost all of her hit movies....this is unheard of.
      I believe at her peak she was the 1st or 2nd most financially prosperous entertainer in the world. During a time when women (and men) had no control over their careers:at the mercy of powerful entertainment executives.
      She was controversial, wrote positive plays about the LGBTQ community and human sexuality; way ahead of her time. A writing and intellectually gifted woman. Plus she didn't drink or do drugs. "1 and 1 is 2...2 and 2 is 4 and 5 will, get you 10...if you know how to work it."

    So wonderful to see this after thought lost for decades. Now let's all hope the 1959 Dean Martin show with Mae West is being found plus the two filmed cut song number from The Heat's On.

    • @UrsOrson
      @UrsOrson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rufust.firefly2474 Hi Rufus, no I do not know the titles but would be good to find out. One song was cut because the lyrics were too risqué the other one because the dress was too provoking. There are stills with the later number. It is the very glamorous and revealing dress where she is with a very different head cover and seemingly no wig . If you give me your email address I can send you the photos. Or you google under The Heat's On. I am part of the Facebook Mae West group and I will also ask Mae's former secretary Tom M. whether he knows more. It is strange as the film cut that it is available. that she only has a song at the beginning and then a brief number at the end and nothing in between and she was by far the biggest star in the picture.

I would say that that was one of the very rare times she allowed herself to break character in public.
