i am relly happy that you enjoy it Jessica and that you have great thoughts of your dad as well. He must be a great guy for sure....Thank you so much for your comment and words...
Thank you for the awesome videos you put out Jeff. Been following you for a long time now and enjoyed everyone of them especially the ones you take a brake on land. Merry Christmas and be safe out there.
Great Video! Watching the marine traffic in the Port of Houston go through Trinity Bay is amazing. Of course, you being on a large container ship, you never go up the Ship Channel to where all the refineries are located. There watching tankers play Texas Chicken is quite something. But the pilots are good. Hundreds of ships go up and down that big ditch every month and the rarely hit anything. Safe travels.
My grandfather was briefly stationed in Bremerhaven for the Navy before he was moved on to Guam and the Philippines. which see many typhoons a year and are quite tropical unlike where you were up on the Channel of England. Actually, that's one of the better days storm wise in the English Channel which can get some brutal storms up around Ireland and the North Sea.
@@JeffOnboard I've seen video of those North Sea storms and they make me appreciate my terra firma when I see what mariners have to go through just to keep upright on the ship.
No comments? That ain't natural. I liked watching cloud to cloud lightning at night at sea. Nice sunset shot! My only dolphin story: We went to flight quarters and I was slowly charging my fire hose standing at the hydrant. The ship turned hard to port to get the bow into the wind. Turn must've been to South since the setting sun swung from bow to Starboard beam. A hard turn results in planing so as went swung to port, we dipped a bunch to Starboard. Our freeboard to Starboard shrunk to a couple feet and then a dolphin popped up a couple feet to starboard a couple times matching our speed and silhouetted in the setting sun. Only dolphin story, but it's burned into my brain. No whale stories though. Ok folks, I've primed the pump. Blow the comments section up with your whale and/or dolphin stories.
Sweet. I took stills that same evening which may be better resolution and if you want I can email them let me know...If you want email me t jbull68@gmail.com
Thank you for your channel and content. Im currently 34 years old and working in the public school system. There's a college down my way offering the Maritime Academy (Texas A&M). At this point in my life, before I make a career change, I'm concerned about job outlook. Does the merchant mariner industry usually have balanced job openings and closings? Or do you see jobs becoming stale in the next 5 or 10 years?
Things always can change, but right now jobs seem to be ok to obtain for everyone I know....There are many ways to enter the industry however included in a video I mad a while back which I will link you too. I need to make a new one soon as well. th-cam.com/video/OPFLDXaE5Zc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Jeff, great video as always! I was wondering when you would consider someone with zero prior experience too old to get into your line of work? Looking forward to hear from you, take care.
I would say if you are in ok health to physically work on ships and 7 days a week etc....age is just a number.....some people at age 55 are the same as others at 40.....It is never too late to try something new. It is at times a demanding job, off hours sometimes, work 7 days a week, experience many time changes, etc....but if yu are healthy age should be a barrier.....
@@JeffOnboard thank you for responding Jeff, much appreciated! So does one have to follow internal training programs or do you have to do a maritime education first?
You can start many ways, but there are training programs, some just get their documents and enter off the street which is slightly harder, or even maritime schools. I will link you to a video I made before and I need to do a new one..... th-cam.com/video/OPFLDXaE5Zc/w-d-xo.html
What in the world could the US possibly be shipping to Europe in containers? As far as I know we make nothing that would go into a container. Are they empty? Did they come from China, into California, then by rail to the east coast to be shipped on to Europe?
@@JeffOnboard Thanks Jeff. I was in a bad mood a little while ago because my neighbor's yard guy blew leaves into my yard again. Decided I'd go to sea for a few minutes and relax. It worked. Thanks for the chill videos.

Sunset and yes I love taking photos and videos of that....Always awesome to see...
Heck of a shot at 11.10. Jeff you ever been in a really big storm while on a ship ? Thanks for posting Jeff.
Thanks Jerry and been in a few bad ones, but now days they go more out of the way to avoid the big storms which is a good thing...
@@JeffOnboard Ya there was a ship out of Florida than went down in a hurricane not long ago, captain made some bad decisions.
Heading to Brazil while you're off?
Trying to...I did all my physical exams today and waiting results.....
What happened when you had to work in the middle of the night and then rest in the day?
Yes, we will just rest the following day correct....

I sail out of Jacksonville hall mr.Jeff are you still on the ship rn
No, I just got home December 5. I will go back on another ship maybe late January is my goal.
Ok ok cool yea me to I will leave January myself lol
Do tankers always take priority when in port because of the cargo the are carrying ?
Not to my knowledge because our docks and theirs are far different. They have to go to a tanker dock to offload or take on.
I didn’t know they have different docks that something new I have learnt thank u x

I know we export to them aircraft machinery, a lot of medical stuff, and electrical machinery from what I read and more as well
