I remember the second orbital injury because that was Taker’s last year with a semi full time schedule in 2010. He had just returned from having a month off after going 18-0 at WM26. It was a May 2010 Smackdown episode in a match Vs Rey to qualify for a WHC Fatal 4 way Match in which Taker was booked to win to reclaim the World title after HBK cost him the title in elimination chamber. He was out 3 months because of the injury and they change the storyline to Someone mysteriously attacking Undertaker and leaving him in a coma and Kane trying to avenge him. Then a weakened taker returned that Summerslam 2010 to reveal that Kane was actually the one that attacked him the whole time. Then they started the brother Vs brother feud Part 3 for the WHC which Taker kept losing to show Kane was stronger than him now. He was supposed to finally beat Kane in the buried alive match at bragging rights 2010 and win the WHC but by then he needed to get shoulder surgery before starting the Triple H Mania 27/28, so they randomly had Nexus attack him and cost him the match to write him off TV. I remember this in detail because I wanted Taker to have one more WHC run and two injuries cost him that last run in 2010 because like I said the plan was for him to win it back on two separate occasions in 2010.
I remember it too. After Taker came back in 2010, you could tell he was worn out & beaten up. He was hardly ever the same after that but he still had good showings against HHH, Punk, Lesnar in 2015, & that 2019 tag match with Reigns which was his last in-ring match. I’m glad he’s retired now. That Boneyard match where he rode off into the night was the perfect send-off given the circumstances. I didn’t even know everything else he’s been thru. Hopefully he focuses on getting his knees & the rest of the surgeries done. I just wanna see him healthy.
Good call on that. Thought it was the Royal Rumble match he had with Rey where he got busted open in that match as well but the fact it was the vegetative state storyline makes way more sense. Definitely remember all of that story as me (rooting for Kane for finally being the dominant brother) and my brother (rooting for Taker) were enjoying it with the twists and turns once Paul Bearer came back. It was goofy but it was all fun that only those guys can do.
I had an orbital and cheekbone fracture after getting stomped out in a high school fight. It hurt to sneeze, blink, and breathe for a couple years. The pressure behind my eye was unbearable at times. I couldn’t sleep or swallow food at without horrible pain. I can imagine wresting after something like that.
I remember watching that match live on my tv sitting on the couch and I knew instantly, when Rey crotch landed on Takers face, he shouted OHH! and started pinching his nose like he couldn't breathe, and then he was really groggy and out of breath trying to stand up again, I knew that didn't look like it was part of the plan, especially when I saw blood rushing out of his nose. So he quickly ended the match with a Tombstone. I didn't find out until later that that hit from Rey broke his Orbital bone, I thought maybe he just had gotten his nose broken and a minor concussion from the impact. Damn. What a Trooper

Guys like Taker and Tony I think need to see Dr. Beau Hightower who does naprapathy (Chiropractic) work, the best ever and he works with tons of wrestlers. He knows how to put them together.

But, as he said, Rey hit his Seated Senton on Taker but botched it as he landed square on Taker's face, breaking his right eye's orbital bone, his nose and concussed him. This led to the whole Undertaker vegetative state angle and the subsequent feud with Kane.
just remember that undertaker literally got burned by his own pyro and just literally walked through fire and suffered from 3rd-degree burns and still wrestled an entire elimination chamber match.

Comeing from a military background we did the same so its hard for me to look at that as an amazing feat. Yeah they take more bumps than we did on average but the stress is WAY more for militants. I respect them for putting on an entertaining show and pushing me in the direction I went to in life. Wrestling is what got me into the gym when I was a teen and I've always looked up to them.
