A female poet who wrote love poetry about women. Lesbos was an unusual place in the ancient times where women had equal rights to men, which is how Sappho came to be a prominent figure. Anyway I nearly tore my hair out when Neil said she was a god or something. I just go nuts when people get their facts wrong!
Stream of Screams was a ton of fun to watch this year! The cameos were a great surprise, I totally fell for the tarot bit at first which made it that much funnier, and "Time To Slop The Hogs" is a catchphrase for the ages. Very cool to hear some details on how y'all put everything together.
A question for Kevin (if he sees this); why not lapel mics? I'm sure you have a good reason not to use them, I'm just curious what the compromise is that I may not be aware. The only "technical" problem I could nitpick (apart from the videogame police intro/outro not playing right half the time 😂) is when people talk alway from the mic (that being said, the last stream went for the longest time with that not happening, only near the end was a bit more noticeable). Love the podcasts and live streams, you really shouldn't worry about what will please the algorithm or younger folks, there's a couple of late 80s elders like myself that get exactly what you guys are talking about and it's refreshing 😂
Hey Lucas! Generally speaking, I don't mind lavaliers. But, they generally have a wide and omnidirectional pickup pattern that doesn't play great with a live setup involving people sitting so closely together. We usually have anywhere from 3 to 6 people on microphone for the live shows. If we were all on lapel mics, you'd be hearing each host on every mic simultaneously, which sounds pretty rough. On top of that, those lav mics don't isolate much when it comes to room echo, TV noise, etc. The SM58 mics, though, are great at isolating with their intimate pickup patterns. They sound great and make it so we can do the shows live (the game streams would require far too much editing and manual mixing with lavs, and gating is very difficult to gauge with varying hosts' speaking volumes and seating positions). We're a weird beast, doing what we try and do live, but the SM58 mic suits us super well. If we do pretaped stuff with 1-3 people, I'll consider using my Sony lavs again.
@KevinJamesVideo thanks for the thorough reply, that makes perfect sense! I did think the overlapping would be the main issue but did not take the gaming audio and echo into account! Keep up the great work and fart noises 😀
@@lucas532bryeah what Kevin said. It's really an isolation thing. The side to side fall off, although not ideal for when somebody starts talking away from the mic, is ideal for everything else going on in the room. Also, a lav that sounds as good as an sm58 or sm7b is going to cost a ton more money than an sm58 or sm7b. Picking up 6 or 7 matching lavs that have the bass response of a large diaphragm dynamic mic is a Big investment.
100% agree with the Justice Smith criticism. I actually put off watching I Saw The TV Glow for a long time, despite the rave reviews, because I really don’t enjoy his performances. I’m glad I did end up watching it though, whatever Jane Schoenbrun does next I’ll be there opening weekend
Sapphic is derived from the name Sappho, an ancient Greek poet renowned for her lyric poetry who lived on the island of Lesbos.
