Personally, I think this movie leans more towards generation 1 of the Transformers. The live action movies are popular and well known, but the designs and appeal of this movie seems to relate more to the original 80's cartoon and comics ^^ Either way, I agree this movie is for everyone, new fans and old fans alike! It's a real shame this film is doing so poorly in the box office because its marketing failed it BIG time ): This is DEFINITELY the best Transformers film we've gotten, too. The story, art style, characters, action, all of it is SO good and dedicated to its impression! This is the first time we finally get a look into Cybertron on screen, and we get the true tragedy of Prime and Megatron's backstory! It means so much

I like that one theory about how Megatronous prime was using dark energon on himself, because if you look at other Primes cogs the aura or color around them is blue. But Megatronous prime cog had a purple aura, which could be the reason why Megatron goes even more unstable and could lead similar to what happened in the video games. Where he poisoned the planet with dark energon. 😮
I like that theory but I wonder if they might also introduce the concept of ore 13 and it boosting a Cybertronians capabilities given that even some of the cast know about it. They could also introduce that or Dark Energon as reason to make Megatron on par with Prime
It's not a bad theory, but Megatronus was with Primus and the other primes when Orion was given the Matrix and his new name, if Megatronus had ever used dark energon on himself it's easy to assume he wouldn't be there. The most likely reason for his cog being a different color is just to remark it's importance for the characters.

It seems everything goes quickly with D-16 becoming Megatron, maybe TOO quickly, but I think that's actually part of the reason- he had too little time to emotionally process everything. Think about it from his point of view- over the course of what can't be more than two days, he learns everything he believed in so strongly was a lie. Everything he ever worked so hard for was to strengthen his enemies. His previous worldview is dead and ashes in one terrible moment. The only thing he's actually GAINED, is a sense of self-empowerment. All he can really trust anymore, is himself. And his pushy best friend who keeps getting them both into trouble WON'T STOP TELLING HIM WHAT TO DO
Well the problem is he didn't listen to the most important figure...Primus (their creator) and his vision. Till All Are One..meaning he wanted peace between his transformers...Primus picking Prime and he knew it...he should have just stopped..Optimus like he said could have built world together with his best friend. :)
Don't forget being sleep/recharge deprived because he did get short changed on his sleep because Orion woke him up to talk about entering the Iacon 5000. Then again Orion must have really been sleep/recharge deprived because he had to take the jet packs to the observing spot and get back so he could have only gotten 2 or 3 hours of sleep/recharge.
This movie is hugely based on Transformers Prime, you need to watch the series, it one of if not the best Transformers shows ever. It gives logical explanations for pretty much lore that you could possibly need.
Orion/Optimus Prime is too naive, bro, even though he is the one who has brought D16 too far. I know Orion is fed up with the strange protocols of the Sentinels, but right now I hate Orion enough.

He saw the anger and darkness in his heart, and didn't want to watch his best friend get take over by those intense, negative emotions. Also they DID win, there was no need to kill Sentinel anymore. Morally speaking, it would be wrong to take his life when they no longer needed to.
he was cool with executing Sentinel but let the people judge him first, they deserve it at least. Megatron executed him for his OWN satisfaction, not for the people that was ALSO wronged by Sentinel, dummy.
