Cool fact: The entire movie was not motion capped it was animated using actual footage of the voice actors, they were told to act out the scenes. I love how realistic the characters (especially The Spirit of the West) look, yet they look super uncanny.

Rango is one of the ugliest talking animal movies I've ever seen, and that's part of what makes it so great. The designs really do feel dry, dusty, and gritty, just like the desert and westerns, and Rango clearly stands out from the others with his bright, clean design. As a kid this made the movie feel boring to me but now I see it as charming genius.

    • @colt1903
      @colt1903 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean... Define "next gen."
Cuz if a movie looking "next gen" means the sort of hyper realism in this movie, then... I'd argue that outside of certain styles, like a dusty western such as Rango, it'd be kinda difficult to make a "next gen" movie, but keep the... Spirit? Heart? No matter.
Point is, animation has something that live action doesn't, and making every movie "next gen" kinds of realistic, would run the risk of ruining that. Which is unacceptable.

Rango and Puss both had to face the "grim reaper" and put their pasts behind them, and become better people for the ones they love by throwing away their famous "legend" reputations.
And in the end, their greatest enemies respect them for their growth and spare their lives.
It's also neat to think about how Rango and Puss both throw the words of their enemies back at them in the climax!
Rango: "It only takes one bullet."
    Puss: "Pick it up."

The setting of this film is actually based off a real like place in California, I believe. Back in the day, Las Angeles was growing at a very quick rate, quicker than it could handle, and it started to run out of water. To solve this, a group of people went out trying to find a water source, and eventually they came across a lake. They then built the famous California Aqueduct that runs across the state. However, over the years, the lake began to run dry. The lake has returned if I am correct but the idea of a body of water going dry to support a city is one similarly shown in Rango.

Rattle Snake Jake, much like The Big Bad Wolf in "Puss in Boots: the Last Wish," is one of the best antagonists in animation history.
Interestingly enough, both are in the movie for what barely even amounts to a quarter of the total run time of their respective movies, if that.
Really goes to show you that the quantity of given screen time doesn't necessarily mean much compared to the quality of the given screen time.
At least, not when dealing with "Force of Nature" style villains.

"That's a lot of traffic for the middle of nowhere"
All roads may lead to road, but every road goes through Nowhere to get there.
... Plus, yknow, there's apparently a massive city like... 30-40 miles away, or something like that. So we ain't quite nowhere. Unless, of course, you count nowhere as the precipice of somewhere's border. But that's a couple too many philosophical dingers in one comment, so I'mma leave it at that.😂

What is interesting is that Rango does not know what he wants so he expresses his desires through characters. Hence, his comment about hero needing conflict and choosing Rango as his name.

  • @andyreacts

Great reaction! There is in fact another version of the ending, where its shown Rango and Beans are a couple now and Rango rides off to save another town (and to serve a ride into the sunset shot). Search for it, its short but worth watching. It was the ending we saw in europe.

I don't know if it just me, but has anyone considered that the film Rango closely resembles Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath? The style, weirdness and humor is almost one for one, and not just because it is a western. Anyways, Rango is a spectacular film, really well animated, voice acted and an awesome flick, just fantastic.

There's a secret ending that only got sent to specific theaters that shows Dirt is now a beach resort town. Forgot what they changed it to but I miss movies giving multiple choice endings. X-Men Origins (not a great example) had like three if i remember correctly
