This is the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, and Mat’s on hand to see if this almighty SUV has what it takes to go head-to-head with the BMW X5M!
Given it's an AMG performance SUV, there’s one thing we need to address first - the engine! Peer underneath the GLE’s big bonnet and you’ll find a 4-litre twin-turbo V8, with the ability to put down 612hp and an almighty 850Nm of torque! It also drives all four wheels thanks to a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, and it’s claimed to be able to hit 60mph in 3.8 seconds.
So in the performance stakes, the GLE 63 can clearly go toe-to-toe with the best of them! But that’s not all - it can easily couple as a more than capable family car, too! With a gigantic 630-litre boot, coupled with a whole load of room in the back, you certainly won’t be short for space once you step inside this new SUV.
There’s one small issue though… The starting price is £112,000!! So we have to ask - is it really worth it? There’s only one man who can tell you for sure… Join Mat for his latest in-depth review!

I drove the 2021 GLE 63 S and it was lightning fast! And its 603 HP V8 biturbo engine doesn't disappoint! Great review Matt!
I can't find any fault with this vehicle. Interior is about as good as it gets. Best steering wheel in the game. Everything can be reached without going into the infotainment. The engine, the sound. It's marvelous

@@mrackelito1 now that we're in 2023 I'm still out massive fan of the GLE 63, but I also love the 500hp ripping stelvio Q4. But the GLE 63 is still more practical and probably the best purchase for the money

This was filmed at the Millbrook Proving Ground test facility in the UK. I used to work here, and it brings immense joy and nostalgia seeing such a pretty place again. Please do more at MBK! Shame you didn't use the offroad facilities, which are equally as fun. That said, nice video as always, Mat.

On a Mercedes when launching, you can add rpm with the right lipstick up to 4000 rpm, then 0-100 and 1/4 mile will travel even faster.

If you own a Mercedes and notice a sharply firm ride over bumps, joints and other cracks, check if your tire pressure is set to the high number in the door jamb, or the lower psi number listed in your gas cap. I never inflat over 40 cold psi. Most dealers fill tires to over 50 and thats nasty.

The speedo was showing 76 mph when he hit the brakes. Based on that the 44m result looks a bit better.
Pretty sure the timing gear knows his speed so it doesn’t keep track of the distance until he decelerates to 70mph
I personally think that was really good since the 2 million remac did it in 43.

I just purchased an X5m comp(my first BMW). Crossed shopped all the major players, for many reasons I went with the X5. Based on looks alone the X5m looks way more aggressive/meaner and just way more badass!! And the performance is better :)

GLE63s over X5M for the engine. The 4.0 biturbo V8 destroys the 4.4 liter M engine. More reliable, sounds better, less lag, and it’s handcrafted!
Go cry, the 4.4 desteoys your 4.0 in performance much more. Watch so many drag race where the 4.4 wins, so let talk the facts
Then why does the M5 destroy the E63s with the same engine??? From a standstill and from a running start...the X5/6 Ms also smokes the GLE63s? So where's the lag???
I wouldn't buy the SUV, but I certainly would choose an S63 or E63s with the biturbo V8.

There is an important option in merc cars that avoid you breaching the speeding low there is “limit” button if you press it and adjust it for any speed you want if press accelerator paddle it will go over the speed you adjust i advice all of you guys to use its a great option
I've got the previous w166 gle 63s with the 5.5ltr lump and absolutely love it. That engine is what it's all about 😍. I'd wait 3 years and pay half of it's list price 👍
