    Excellent video, James! Excellent series in fact. Really assisted me in finding the right regulators for my wife and my self. We went with the DGX Gears Xtra….I must say they are incredibly good. Wouldn’t have even known what to ask or what I was looking for if it wasn’t for your help. Thank you so much!

    Hello. I just Passed the PADI OW Class on Aug 6 2023. I chose to go with a Genesis Prana for both the Main and Backup. The Prana (Main) has the Adjustable Venturi and Flow. The Octo has adjustable Flow. When I was in the Class, I used two different models. In the Pool portion i used an Aqualung with Adjustable Flow. During the OW portion, I was handed a US Divers Non Adjustable. I didn't care for that one too much. The US Divers seemed like it wanted to Freeflow when not in my mouth. The Octos were botht he same Aqualung model with adjustable flow. Set them for Minimum. Didn't have a problem with them coiled up in the BCJ

    Guess I need to start looking outside of the Scubapro gear, always been interested in Dive Rite and Apeks. That is what I learned in and that has been the only manufacturer I have purchased for the larger, more expensive dive gear. More great info on the second stage, appreciate the work. Keep it up James!

      Don’t lose faith in Scubapro, they have a tremendous history of innovation. Almost all of the performance features he described were developed for the Scubapro G250, introduced to the market some 35 years ago.

      Scubapro is great, and their regulators are some of the best. That said, you're paying for the Scubapro name. The Diverite regulator in the video is about half the price of a similarly optioned Scubapro regulator. Scubapro is made by Tabata, which is also makes regulators for TUSA (Tabata USA), and they're ambiguous on where their products are made. Mostly Taiwan is what people on Scubaboard are saying. Diverite on the other hand is made in the USA, at their facility in Florida. I know you're probably way past trying to figure out what brands to buy, but I thought I'd throw my .02 in this conversation.

    I'd love to see how the Venturi lever actually works in the Diverite regulator.
    I have an Apeks MTX and MTXV, and the MTXV has a barrel you can move over the air outlet hole, and not a vane that you move in an upright or flat position.
    Interestingly, the MTX which doesn't have a Venturi lever, always has the barrel covering the air outlet hole, leading me to assume that cheaper regulators without Venturi levers all have the air outlet hole covered
    I've seen a lot of channels commenting how the Venturi lever is there to prevent a freeflow. I would argue the Venturi lever is there so you only have to briefly exert negative pressure on the inhale, after which the regulator freeflows into your lungs until you provide positive pressure on the exhale. This is beneficial when you're working hard, like swimming against a current.

    Hi James, what do you think about using Stage bottle or Pony bottle even for certified Open Water Diver
    as a training rule and changing the old model that agencies have for teaching new divers.
    Relying only on the "Buddy System" could be very risky if the conditions don't allow you to be together and
    one of you fails on the main (only) equipment.

    The Dive Rite XT second stage purge cover isn't carbon fiber. It is plastic that looks like carbon fiber. Real carbon fiber has that pattern, but it is much more subdued coming from how light reflects, so it changes depending on viewing angle.

    New diver here. I think I've settled on the Diverite Hydro Lite for my BCD but still overwhelmed with the regulator choices. How do you like the Diverite reg vs the Apex XTX50?

    • @leehouston4395
      @leehouston4395 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      UK Diver here. most of us Dive Apeks (i personally have the XTX200), mainly due to their pedigree in cold water. Can't comment on Diverite, but the Apeks are literally bombproof.

      @detroitsurvivor4989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leehouston4395 as stupid as this is the reason i don't like Apex is styling. I know, i know 😆. But to spend that money on what looks like a big chunk of black plastic just keeps me from pulling the trigger on one. I am also going off pictures and reviews of all of these. I don't live anywhere near good diving so the dive shops are small with very limited selection to see in person.

      The Diverite XT is a good reg with a swivel turret first stage, which is useful. I understand the company was founded in Florida but the regs are now actually manufactured in China. Not confirmed and not necessarily a bad thing if true, but the second stages in particular don't look as robust as the Apeks kit, made in UK. I have a bunch of XTX50s and they are remarkably well built, with many parts made from metal where others use plastic. They breathe well, are light in the mouth and easy to adjust. My former colleagues in the military still use them and that's good enough for me. Yes, I am biased, but 8 years of great performance does that to you!

    The trolls can go back to ScubaBoard where they fit in with their keyboard warrior types. Those who respectfully and constructively disagree with the presenter will find a welcome home here. We all can learn from each other, but unfortunately @UCsSEp8l6pjvevJUUsEsnT0g leaves me feeling he has just come to pick a fight. Please do not just say something is a "BS explanation" or how a description is very wrong. Who are you? Why do we believe you instead of James? You very well may be correct, but in my opinion, to call something BS with no proof seems like you are just looking for trouble. Help us out, or just move on. BTW- you take some beautiful underwater pictures!
