I've Never even considered Testing the boiling point of the soot to detect coolant. I work on pickup truck diesels and i usually pressure test the cooler or you can usually see the coolant crust in the cooler. Im going to get some coolant strips and try that next time. I finally found a shop, #4, that listened to me and did the test I requested after the other shops wouldn't, but just did the same tests the other shops did, all passing! The Peterbilt in Charlotte did the air compressor isolation test. That was it. Bad head. Replaced head, running great. No more issues! These so called techs at these shops will repeat tests to pad the bill it seems. They can also be arrogant and lazy.

DPF filter cleaning recommendation for cummins is every 250,000 miles. However, if you idle a lot and don’t have an APU you will have to clean it closer to 200,000. Also your oil changes shouldn’t be on a 3 month interval but a specific milage interval. I change mine every 15,000 miles and use Rotella T5 semi synthetic 10w30. Hope this was helpful. I too am at Landstar, I have a Thermo King Tri-pak and keep my idle time to an absolute minimal. Idle time will absolutely clog your dpf filters and cause a whole host of issues.

Hey Ryan, my coolant level fluctuates abnormally in my 2007 freightliner Columbia Detroit 60 14L. It will be so low cold that truck won’t start due to coolant being below low coolant sensor. I will fill to halfway mark, but then after running the truck the coolant will rise above the max line.

Im suspecting my EGR cooler is bad, but i only build pressure when climbing a mountain with a heavy load. Starts to dump coolant out of the overflow when the temps go up. When the fan comes on the pressure goes back down. I noticed once while doing a parked regen. Temp would go up, pressure would build, and coolant would come out of the overflow tube. Fan kicks on, temp goes back down, leaking stops until it repeats the process. Didn't do it before, just started happening this summer. Have a Volvo D13. What do you think? And thank you for this very informative video.

      @nasimwehbe8410 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@kentrellhicks5257 no, still doing the same thing. If it was the head gasket or egr cooler it would maintain constant pressure. I'm suspecting the thermostat isn't opening all the way. I was up in Seattle and didn't have the issue at all with the cooler weather. Once I got down to Arizona with 113° outside temps the coolant would stay above the 170 operating temperature. Just stayed at 180 to 190 and it never did that before either. I actually had to turn the heater on, and the temperature slowly started coming down. Had to stop once to refill the coolant reservoir.

Can the EGR Cooler be bad if I’m not noticing a coolant loss from the reservoir tank.
I have code “EGR DELTA PRESSURE” SPN-411 FMI-1
Replaced Delta P Sensor and cleaned all connector pipes and ports. Check engine light still comes on when I pull up a hill.
I get white smoke coming out of stack pipe when accelerating hard or pulling up hill. Once the “EGR DELTA PRESSURE” check engine light comes on then I get no white smoke anymore, but engine performance is decreased.

the fault with your solution is that the cylinder head gasket that is leaking fills the cylinder and pumps the coolant into the exhaust, and makes it impossible to determine where its coming from, one psi of pressure raises the boiling point of water by three degrees, you should know this, a radiator must cool 30 degrees from the top tank to the outlet at the bottom tank per pass or its clogged, it does not take 8 hours to do a egr cooler, and a air compressor is about a two hour job, easiest way to check a egr cooler is to remove the clamp at the rear of the egr cooler and the rubber hose at the back of the engine and use a mirror to inspect it, sometimes the coolant will run out the clamp and leave tracks on the block. when a story seems to be fishy its most like just a story, drivers and customers say so and so said this, unless its in writing or you personally hear it the story is suspect.

Thank you for watching the whole video and comment here. I would like to response to some of the points you stated in the comments. In case other people in our community also have the same questions.
      - Failed cylinder head gasket also pumps the coolant into the exhaust. It is absolutely correct. I mentioned the point in the video. I have a couple reasons to focus on EGR cooler in this case. 1. Most shops or immuture mechanic always go to the most expensive source to look for problems. It is not necessary wrong. However, it is not a practice I take. There are so many things can cause the same issue. I always go from the cheapest option first. It is cheaper for the customer. 2. If head gasket is the issue, you will also see overheating, white smoke and other abnormal things. However, customer didn't experience other issues other than the high coolant pressure. So considering all the information available, I think EGR cooler is bad.
      - About the exact boiling temp after increasing the pressue, it was not the key of this video, I just wanted to express that there is a correlation between pressure and boiling temp. Everyone can google the exact correclation.
      - About EGR cooler job and air compressor job, you stated it only took you 2 hours each to do the job. I am very impressed. I hope you meant the whole job. Take EGR cooler as an example, it takes near 1 hour to drain and refill the coolant. You will have to test the truck after installing the new EGR cooler. Cummins book says 8.8 hours for EGR cooler job. Again, just impressed by your statement.
      - Lastly, about the story. I run a shop, and I have 6 weeks of jobs currently. I do not have time to create stories here. It is not what I am good at and I don't have plan to become a story creator. All information is based on the customer coming to our shop.
Thank you again for taking time to comment. I have read many comments from you before as well. I appreciate your continuous support! Have a wonderful day!

@@truckingandfixing aftertreatment engines have the filters on them, you can no longer look for smoke out the exhaust, sometimes you can smell the burning antifreeze, i did not or have i ever stated a egr cooler only takes two hours, reread the comment, i said it doesnt take 8 hours, and you state in your video that the egr cooler and the air compressor take about the same time to repair, AND i never said you made up a story, but your repeating a wild story a customer said cummins did this and cummins did that, i said customers and drivers lie, in a nice way, they dream up what they think it is and the c b radio guy said and then say cummins said this and that, as to it taking a hour to drain and refill coolant, get a sump pump and put a quarter in the garden hose and start with a 3/16 hole in the quarter to pump in the coolant and enlarge it till you get the flow you want,
