Polishing inner brake ring or drum actually make brake more consistent and will make it more 'sticky' and you should not put any oil. When your line a bit jerky and your brakes sound rattle during casting, time to clean inner ring and tips of brakes block. A clean brake inner ring sound buzzing during casting. Any scratch on that part should be polish to mirror like surface. I use fablusture jewel rouge and dremmel tool to polish.
Orange shield is good for preventing dust. "Open-bearings" (shield less) is more friction free, so I can cast a longer distance cast. But I should maintenance the reel more often. Thanks for watching!
I’m really interested in acquiring one of these reels, I think is would be easier to cast smaller lures with one. Kinda like a low profile reel (which I don’t care for very much) am I correct in this assumption?
Awesome! Love seeing those old reels spring back to life with a little work!
great tutorial - the only thing i would add is to polish the inner brake ring - its' where the brake blocks push up against....makes it way smoother..
Thanks for watching!

Im planning to buy one. What lure weights you think work the best with 4500c
Why did you remove the orange seal on the boca bearings?

Bearings are easier to clean and lubricate with the seals removed. If you fish freshwater, you can leave the seals off no problem.
I must ask you?
Do restore these reels for payment!
I would love to send you a vintage Abu reel to you..

Any round Abu reels are good for bigger lures (3/8oz or bigger), but it's possible.
